Stanford Routt To The Chiefs On Three-Year Deal

Stay connected for news and updates

Well, they did it. The Kansas City Chiefs signed CB Stanford Routt. According to multiple reports, Routt signed a three-year, $19.6 million deal with the Chiefs.

Routt was released by the Oakland Raiders last week. He was originally a second round pick by the Raiders in the 2005 NFL draft. He's 28 years old.

This signing could have major ramifications with the Chiefs roster. CB Brandon Carr is one of the team's top free agents and with the signing of Routt you have to wonder if Carr returns to KC. Reading the tea leaves, it certainly seems unlikely Carr returns now.

Routt has some similarities to Carr so, while I'm not sure he's as good as Carr, it shouldn't be a significant dropoff talent-wise. Perhaps the Chiefs felt Routt was a better value. Routt will face his former team twice a year now.
