Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Carr Are The Chiefs 'First Priority'

We have a priority list on the Kansas City Chiefs free agency.

But it shouldn't surprise you. Not at all.

Romeo Crennel's interview with Soren Petro of 810 WHB was full of good stuff including the part where he said Dwayne Bowe and Brandon Carr -- both impending free agents -- are the "first priority".

"Those guys have done a good job for us," Crennel said. "We would like to keep those guys in house. We know the free agency process is a difficult thing at times." GM Scott Pioli has said the same thing -- that he wants to keep both of them. So we've established that the Chiefs will make an effort to keep both.

"Hopefully they will want to stay and we're going to do everything we can to keep him," Crennel continued. "You just never know. But they are the first priority."

That shouldn't be a surprise. No offense to the rest of the Chiefs free-agents-to-be but Bowe and Carr are clearly the most important ones.

As for another Chiefs free agent, Crennel indicated that he would like to keep Kyle Orton as well. "He did a great job the three games we had him as the starter. He won two out of three. Not bad."

Whether that actually happens is another story.

Thanks for the heads up!

Though I am not going to do my happy dance until they are both signed.

I really, really hope Romeo is representing the overall vibe

And not just his own feelings.

I’m still getting used to hearing our HC give away info like that…

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Yeah

Of course

they want to keep Bowe, Carr, and Orton. Seeing as how we need help at NT, LG, and RT. Bowe will move to LG, Carr is our future at RT, and Orton is the missing piece for the NT position.

by Zif on Feb 2, 2012 3:12 PM CST reply actions   2 recs

Hee hee.

I’m picturing Orton at nose tackle.

by bossmanham on Feb 2, 2012 3:13 PM CST up reply actions

Not to difficult

really. If Orton can improve his hard count he can really mess with the opposing teams center and QB, and since he was the one doing the hard count he will know exactly when the ball is snapped and will have that split second advantage to sidestep the block and get into the back field.

With Bowe over at LG we will have to come up with some imaginative packages to make it a LG elligible formation, but I am sure our new OC can figure something out. I can’t remember the new OC’s name, but he also works swing shift at the gas station across the street from Arrowhead.

Carr at RT is a bit of a stretch, but he has to be better than a blade of grass which has been proven to be better than BRich.

by Zif on Feb 2, 2012 3:39 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

difficult

hell with his hard count, I wanna see him get the Chiefs in the endzone more often then he did in three games. I believe it was twice last season

by trchief on Feb 2, 2012 5:45 PM CST up reply actions

But...

He’s going to be our NT of the future, not our QB. How is a NT supposed to get us into the end zone unless there is a fumble returned for a TD or an Int returned?

A lot of speculation that one will stay and one will go when it comes to Bowe and Carr

I tend to think one will get a new contract and one will get franchised. Either way, both are still with the team in 2012.

Bowe and Carr are not not going anywhere. Or should not.

Orton will hopefully stay with us, too.

I'm glad he's saying this publicly

It’s a question that’s been killing us all year long. If we don’t lock these guys up it’s just another hole were going to have to address somewhere else. Hopefully this is why we haven’t made any big FA signings. Is it Dorsey and Albert next year?

i feel pretty confident this will happen.

30 something million under the cap, RAC as HC, good track record of keeping their home grown…I’m not too worried about those two…QB & OC are a different story.

Notice the "him" and not them

I think that Bowe is basically a done deal Carr is the one we have to worry about

I have a feeling Carr wants to be paid a flowers type contract (which i agree he should get) and if he does not get it offered will want to test FA

(I read somewhere his realitives and friends were trying to get him to check out Detroit i think it was not sure if it was true or not)

I thought the part at the end was intereting.

RAC says the most important thing he learned from Belichick was being flexible with your gameplan. Sounds like the complete opposite of Haley.

Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

Cap room?

If KC can lock up Carr, Bowe and Orton, how much cap space would we still have? I’d love to see us make a run at NT Soliai, but it sounds like he will need 15 mil if they put the franchise tag on him again this year. Would also like to see some O-line FA moves. The question in my mind is if Pioli and Hunt are willing to actually spend the money to make these things happen. If past behavior is the best predictor for future behavior, then we are in for a modest amount of FA moves unless cap rules force the collective hands
