Prospect of the day: Doug Martin
Hello everybody. From now until draft day, every day I'm going to be posting a fanshot about one prospect the Chiefs might be interested in drafting, so we can discuss about him and see if he is what we want here in KC. I'm going to start with some not-so-common prospects. Here is Doug Martin RB Boise State:
Projected from Early 2nd-Late 3rd Round
Martin was asked to describe his running style here
. This is what he said:
"I'm a violent runner but yet elusive. I break a lot of tackles and I run through a lot of arm tackles. You might see a few stiff arms in there. I like to run north and south but I am capable of going east and west to make plays as well. I also can catch the ball out of the backfield well."
Rumored have a very strong upper body, good for a bruiser. According to Walterfootball, he has been compared to Ray Rice. Martin is 5-9 and 215 lbs, a native of Stockton, California. Rushed for 1300 yards and 16 touchdowns his senior year at Boise State. Rushed for 3431 yards and 43 touchdowns during his entire career. He also returned kicks, including a 100 yard return TD vs. Arizona State. However, he played in a much easier conference compared to most RB prospects this year. Against his toughest competition this year (Georgia), he only averaged 2.4 yards per carry. Martin raised his stock a few levels after the senior bowl, and showed that he can pick up blitzes and he can pass block. Walterfootball currently has him mocked to the Broncos.
How I think he can fit in:
I think if we were to get him, it would have to be somewhere in the 2nd round. His stock is on the rise, and he is likely to impress at the combine. I don't think he will make the 1st round, comsidering guys like Lamar Miller and David Wilson will be ahead of him. I think this would be a decent pickup by the Chiefs. I don't think he is going to be elite, but he is going to be a solid talent at the next level. What do you think?
