just watched mel kiper and todd mcshay on tv talk about mike adams being a questionable player.

questioned everything about him from his ability, to work ethic, to not staying focused.

hate to bring up a comparison but remember when we got barry richardson from clemson? he had first round talent but was so hard to keep him focused in the game, it would be overtime or whatever and he would be on the sideline talking about what he was going to do later after the game.

I wouldnt put it past mike adams to fall in the draft like bruce cambell did.

Honest question because I haven't done any research yet. What about signing Vernon Carey to play right tackle?

He played right guard this past year, but he played RT for the Dolphins before that. He’s 30 so he’s not a long term solution, but he is a free agent. And since he was a part of the Dolphins offense last year, he’s got the Daboll connection.

Am I crazy? I haven’t watched tape of the guy but my impression has always been that he was a substantially better right tackle than Barry Richardson.

A quadripledgic in a full body cast and a bad case of the hiccups would be better than BRich

at least they would have to go around the quadripledgic.

Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.

Plus maybe Tim Tebow could heal him?

rec'd and agreed

they are going to have to draft an OT early…

I’m not sure it HAS to be in round one… but I am also not sold on getting a new starter after round 2… especially this year.

I like Sanders and others… but I’m not 100% sure they’d be day one starters… Richardson would probably open the season beside Asamoah

I want Decastro and Sanders personally

We need a tackle over a guard

Because Richardson is much worse than Lilja

Neither is as old as Casey.

But I’d be willing to defend Richardson as a worse player.

Richardson is the worst starter on the team

God that is hard to say as I look at our QB situation.

Richardson is one of the worst starters in the NFL.

Cassel isn’t even the worst starting QB in the NFL.

Just because it's a higher need, doesn't automatically mean you use a higher pick.

Big mistake saying you HAVE to draft a certain position, at a certain spot in the draft

You have to go in more open to possibilities, as you never know who you could have an opportunity to draft or, who might offer you something to trade out of your position

by GracieKal on Feb 16, 2012 4:17 PM CST reply actions

Even if they trade down, they should look to take a tackle

in the first two rounds. To get a tackle that is better than Richardson on day one, we will likely need to use a 1st round pick. Meaning the coaches should be doing a LOT of film study on Reiff, Martin, and Adams to see who fits best and what it would take to get them.

by Chiefs4Life on Feb 16, 2012 4:28 PM CST up reply actions

draft DeCastro ...

move Lilja to backup duty

draft Sanders or Glenn or Adams or whomever in the 2nd Round

done :-)

I'd still draft o-line later...

or bring in some competition from FA, but this plan gives us more options on draft day. I’d rather start Lilja than a rookie T. from what may be left in the draft.

by 12t on Feb 16, 2012 4:34 PM CST up reply actions

my ideal situation ...

bring back Bowe, Carr, Orton, McClain (the usual suspects) …

Soliai in free agency
RB in free agency (Bush or Tolbert or whoever)

DeCastro (OG – starts immediately)
RT (starts immediately)
Antonio Allen (DB depth)
OLine
RB
OLine or Who Cares
Who Cares

yeah, I’m serious … that’s what I’d do

I see your plan...

2 rookies on the right side..finish Cassel off now so they will be ready when we draft the QBOTF next year. I just want best players available after round 1. I would like to pick up B. Weedon late. I also wanted DMc. late, so I guess he’ll be the 2nd round pick.

by 12t on Feb 16, 2012 5:02 PM CST up reply actions

Decastro could start at LG

Thus having the rookies at LG and RT and not right next to each other.

NICE

by Full Metal Jayhawk on Feb 16, 2012 5:08 PM CST up reply actions

Well I agree that RT has to come in the draft...

But I’m not sure I agree with the top 60 pick or the evaluation of Sanders.
Sanders was high on many draft rankings until the senior bowl….

I haven’t personally got to see him play, but I know this: Pioli won’t be going off of a senior bowl to decide whether he is an upgrade or if he sucks. Pioli will be watching game tape over the whole course of his college career and listening to scouting reports. If that counters his bowl performance, this guy is going to be a prototypical Pioli ‘steal.’

Lucky for us, Pioli looks at the whole picture, not the part of the picture those trying to push certain players are likely to bring up. While I do believe the chiefs go RT I the draft, and most probably in their first three or four picks, I disagree with the premise that having a bad senior bowl means the guy isn’t a RT upgrade…

"At one point in your life you either have the thing you want or the reasons why you don't "

by chief Stevie_k on Feb 16, 2012 6:47 PM CST reply actions

I think we double down at tackle

I think we’ll see Pioli trade back in the first and pick up an extra second. If a player like Adams or possibly even Martin is still on the board after trading down I think Pioli gives them a hard look, more than likely though the second will be the round for O-line. Chiefs take a guard like Zietler, Glenn, or even Konz if he falls. With the later second round pick grab a tackle like Massie or Sanders. Then in the 4th or 5th grab another risk reward type pick with Datko or Matt Reynolds.

by Everest on Feb 16, 2012 8:49 PM CST reply actions

very possible IF they don't think Mims can contribute, or if they don't bring BRich back

But, i think a late round OT might be lost in the numbers game if they decide to keep Mims and Brich for depth…

so, IMHO, get Martin/Adams in the 1st… then focus on other positions

by stagdsp on Feb 17, 2012 8:21 AM CST up reply actions

Valid point

There’s a chance you could throw Datko on the PUP for a year and get an extra season of scouting in on mims / evaluate whether Datko will ever return to previous form.
