Sounds Like Kelly Gregg Leaning Toward Retirement
As noted in Arrowheadlines, it would appear Kelly Gregg is likely to retire.
The Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman had his high school jersey retired at a Tuesday night high school basketball game in Oklahoma and the local newspaper wrote after the event: "Gregg hasn't announced it yet, but he plans to retire after a long NFL career."
The sub-headline of the story says Gregg is "considering retirement" so we'll see. Gregg doesn't seem like the type to have a big to-do about his retirement so I wonder if, when and how he'll make it official.
If this is it for Gregg, it caps an impressive career. He spent 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, including a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Ravens practice squad in 2000, before landing in KC.

Only way I see this happening at Arrowhead
is if Clark can make lots of money on it.

Kelly has been the best we've had
in awhile. With that being said, it has been forever since we had a real good NT. I think it is time for this position to be stabilized and upgraded and Powe might be the man but Romeo will know so let’s see which direction they go.
Off topic
I was thinking lately how f’d up it is that 3 of our stars blew out their ACLs last year. I mean…what kind of luck is that? What kind of CURSE is that? They’ll probably never be back to 100%…. Makes me very angry.
I disagree with that....
From the research I’ve been doing on football ACL injuries it appears to be more mental than physical after the first year back. Many say the surgically repaired knee is actually stronger, but the players have to get the mental side right. Also look at Wes Welker he was able to come back the next year and play at a high level but this year he was back to his old self. I think the silver lining to this is the fact that all three went out so early. When they come back they have had almost a full year of rehab. Not to over post this article but look at Jamal Lewis’ numbers. http://www.nfl.com/fantasy/story/09000d5d826d092c/article/acl-surgery-research-shows-decline-in-running-back-stats I would say that almost all three of our guys are in the same boat for the most part. I really don’t think it will be me much of an issue moving forward. At the same time maybe that is more the Homer in me. Here is another interesting comments from Priest Holmes on the injury. http://chiefs.omgforum.net/t602-good-read-about-priest-holmes-and-recovering-from-acls I would also think that surgery is probably better now than when Holmes had his.

The physical strength required to make that play
Is just astonishing.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Come on no neck, give it one more year
Standing on the corner in a white Godfather hat. He drives a long black gangster Cadillac. He can steal a broads mind, man, in three or four minutes. It’s not how long you talk, brother, it’s what you put in it.
LMAO
so true.
KC needs him for one more season. Powe isn’t ready and I don’t think Gordon is that guy every snap.
In accordance with the prophecy
I am the 1%
how could we possibly know if Powe is ready or not?

Kind of gauging that by the amount of snaps he played
Seems to be a fair assessment.
In accordance with the prophecy
I am the 1%
fair enough
Im sure during training camp we will know how he us coming along. Id like to see him do well

I was hoping he'd stay on one more year..
and be quality depth and have a draft pick/FA, Gregg, and then Powe.

Three true NTs would be a lot to carry
Gregg retiring gives Pioli incentive to go get a younger NT either from free agency or the draft. I would love to go into the season with Soliai (FA) or Poe (draft) as the starter, with Powe backing them up and getting more playing time, and Gordon as a swing DE/NT if we need him due to injury.
Gregg played well this year and I wish him a happy retirement. Now we need to go get a NT that can help us solidify the line for the next few years instead of just one.

rather him retire
after having a solid year, then to stay on a year longer then he should. Nothings worse then when a player gets old midseason.
With that said, glad powe was able to learn from him for a year. Maybe hes next?

That sounds like a reference to Thomas Jones there

yea I see the argument that veterans like Jones is good leadership for a team
but sometimes the decline in there level of play outweighs any leadership contributions they may bring, as was the case last year.

definitely appreciate gregg, was happy to have him in kc, but now at this point in time...
i think its best if he retires so that it forces our hand in moving for a nose tackle….maybe now that romeo is head coach that position finally gets looked at
