Not knee-jerk enough about spending.

See, but I don't get it.
Don’t you think maybe we could put it on credit?

I can't wait to see who the Chiefs target in free agency
They need to get an RT, NT, TE, power back and depth at QB and could stand to upgrade Lilja at LG. I think we could address 3-4 of those in the draft, leaving us needing to grab a big name at at least two of those positions.

safety depth has to be on that list
Pay Brandon Carr/ Pay Colquitt

Very true
Thanks for the addition, although I think we can grab safety depth in round 5 or later.
my dream
first, there are no adequate RT replacements in FA. Scratch it off your list. If Pioli signs one, the player should not be a starter (unless there is a surprising cut between now and March 13th). RT will have to be drafted, me thinks. Martin or Reiff in the 1st? Sanders in the 2nd or 3rd?
Obviously the big LGs are Nicks and Grubbs. I’d take either one. In the draft, I’d LOVE DeCastro.
I really wouldn’t mind our first three rounds looking like this: DeCastro, LG; Allen, TE; Sanders, RT.
NT- I’ll be very disappointed if they don’t go out and sign Paul Soliai.
I’m warming up to Green-Ellis to take the place of Jones and Battle. Charles, Green-Ellis, McCluster and McClain would make for a very good backfield.
I’m assuming we don’t end up with RG III, so re-signing Orton or taking a loooong look at Manning’s medical records is a must. If Pioli did shockingly trade up and draft RG III, it would make looking for OG more important in FA. We’ll have a good idea of what he is thinking during the first couple weeks of FA.
In short, I’d really like this off-season:
-DeCastro, Allen, Sanders
-Soliai, Green-Ellis, Orton/Manning, Landry
Or…
-RG III, Sanders, TE
-Soliai, Nicks, Green-Ellis, Landry

Sanders is gone by RD 3
I like Dont'a Hightower if we can trade into the 25ish range in the first. Think he is going to be a great NFL ILB and would look great beside DJ. He is known as a run stuffer who is pretty good on the blitz but what I saw when watching him play was a very smart footbal player and a leader on the nations best D. Haven't really seen anyone else say that he plays well in coverage but vs. LSU he was excellent in coverage. If we can move down and pick up more picks that's who I take.

remember when Powe was mocked in the 1st and 2nd and ended up getting drafted in the 6th?
There will be a run on some positions. better players will fall.

same folks that are convinced that Carr & Bowe will sign elsewhere because this is such a terribly run organization
Both will stay. Both will get paid. A couple of other big name FAs will come here too. Plenty of money to burn.

Agreed
on Carr & Bowe. Not so sure on the big name FA’s though. Although I’d love it, it just doesn’t seem quite conservative enough.

agree Bucko
Bowe, Carr are back
Mid-level FAs again… BGE, maybe Grubbs, Dreessen/Carlson, Rogers/Franklin
Draft focus on RT, S, maybe DL

I don't know if most people convinced of that could comprehend what was written in that article.

Sad but true
if comprehension weren’t the issue, this alone should suffice to shut them all up.

with all the money
The chiefs have to spend, there is no reason to not get a franchise qb. Or Orton at minimum.
by chiefnation on Feb 14, 2012 2:00 PM CST via mobile reply actions
There are plenty of reasons we may not get one
The only QBs reasonably available to deem a “franchise player” would be Orton or Flynn. One has likely shown his ceiling, which isn’t very good consistently, and one is Matt Cassel 2.0, with a vastly smaller sample size of on-field performance.
Are we ready to lock them up for multiple years and somewhere between $12-$15 million a season? You be the judge

Trading farm for rg3 and make huge splash in FA To make up for lost picks. The time is now.

Is this by chance the long lost APer known as
Chiefsfan85?
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.
nope it isn't

I'm hating that more people aren't commenting on this!!!
Either it went over everyone’s head or the fact that it’s evidence of excellent organizational administration means that silence is golden.
Let me repeat myself… Hunt and Pioli are NOT idiots.

Excellent, albeit sarcastic, point
Nice list of names that were “game changers” last year. Good reminder that great organizations in any business build carefully and strategically. FA in the last several years hasn’t been splashy but it has been solid. Would love to see a run at some long-term OL help like Nicks, and appreciated hearing why it could be possible and prudent cap-wise.
