Chiefs have tons of cap room, will likely sign at least one RB. BenJarvus Green-Ellis logical fit. History with Pioli. Battle & Jones FAs.
Green-Ellis knows Daboll's system. One of NFL's top short-yardage/goal-line backs. Could be power complement to Jamaal Charles (ACL).

I was a little worried about his time in the league
and his legs being tired, but he is only going to be 26 in July.
This could be a great pick.
I like the idea of:
Charles
Green-Ellis
McCluster
McClain
That is a solid group of backs that gives defenses a lot of unique looks to have to defend. Especially, if they start using McClain appropriately

He is the perfect complement to Jamaal Charles.
There may be better options out there, but I would be happy with that pick up.
I really want Matt Forte, but this is more realistic.

Matt Forte
Seems to be an issue. He obviously wants top dollar. Too many other good backs out there.
No one would have a better pay off
There is a reason he is going to get paid.
he is a top shelf back that can run, block and catch all at high NFL level.
There are good backs out there, but Forte is the cream of the crop and it’s not even close.

Isn't Chester Taylor another option at FARB
He could replace Jones as the old dood falling down around the line of scrimmage.

WE ALREADY HAVE ONE
McClain was never utilized correctly last year had 902 and 10 TD’s when Ravens gave him the rock. Punishing runner with hands. I love Tolbert to but again we already have McClain. We need a back to fill in for Charles if he gets hurt again.
I would really like the Law Firm.

Not to concerned with having strictly a "Power" back
if you want pure power give Leron the ball. but having a that doesn’t fumble ever would be nice.
I'd just like to see a back be able to run straight ahead and not get tackled by the back of his Oline
The reason I did like Battle last year was that when he got hit he was good for at least 2 yards pushing forwards afterwards. those 2 yards were huge.

But given our amount of cap room it’s tough to not dream about an upper tier back, which Law Firm is not.
Tolbert is an excellent receiver as well from what I understand, so he’s less one dimensional than Law Firm.

I’m wary of the Law offices of Ben, Jarvus, Green and Ellis because they tried to make him a feature back and he hasn’t really excelled. I would much rather, if we were going for a FA power back, to try for Bush (top choice) or Tolbert, as others have mentioned. But if he came on board and those two were already signed, I’d be OK I suppose..
Chiefs already have their feature back.

Not really
It would be like if you told a guy that he could only sleep with 4-5 women in his lifetime, and have an array of women for him to choose from. Would he waste one of his 4-5 choices on two women that are identical? Or would he rather mix it up and have some variety (assuming equivalent quality between the twins and others).

I’m guessing he’s back based on recent ACL trends. Has anyone seen info on how bad a tear it was?
One wouldn’t think it was an awful tear based on the way he got hurt… but that doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t.
It DOES seem excessive having JC, Dex, AND LMJ though. I’m sure LMJ’s a baller, but Dex just finished an 800+ yard from scrimmage year in the pro’s. Dude’s a big time contributor, and I don’t want him losing touches.

Interesting
To me that reads less scouting report and more like an opinion article or blog post. Not to discredit the points, just not what I’m accustomed to in a “scouting report”.
The video embedded is worth a look. Good thing the guy that made it put 30 seconds of him running out of the tunnel at the start – so at least we know he can run out of the tunnel well on game-day. That was going to be a deal-breaker for most teams if he didn’t have that part nailed down.
In any case – my only issue with LMJ is he is redundant with Dexter. Regardless of opinion on who is better than the other, the simple fact is they would fill similar roles, and I don’t know many teams willing to put two small backs on the game-day roster.

Going down in history as one of the best RBs in the Pac ever, with guys like Marcus Allen and OJ
that's good company if you are looking at in from a pure running back stand point.
Not good company you want to introduce to your neighbors.

"We want guys that start their careers with the Chiefs to play for us as long as possible." - Clark Hunt
Agreed - more Sproles than McClucken
Sproles is even shorter though, so the weight is even more compact – more like MJD (though certainly not the tree-trunk that he is).
Let me share this real quick:
Has nice quickness and straight-line speed. … Hits a second gear in the open field. … Runs tougher than expected at his size. … Not afraid of going between the tackles. … Runs with light feet. … Will spin off linemen and churn legs to get a few extra effort yards. … Good awareness on blitzes. … Really good effort on open-field blocking and pass protection. … Solid receiver who gets upfield quickly to move the chains.
Does that scouting report sound familiar? It should – it belonged to one Dantrell Savage. Dantrell had nearly identical size/weight/speed: 5’8", 182lbs, 4.50 40-time. Now I’m not saying that LMJ will end up the same as Dantrell, but the similarities are striking. LMJ has had a better college career than Savage did, but Savage had a very solid season before going pro (Oregon is also better than Ok. St. was back then)
But by picking him you’re basically writing off McCluster. Neither will be the feature back and will be used situationally – I just don’t think there’s room on the game-day roster for both. You’re either throwing away the Dex pick or wasting the LMJ pick. Not particularly a fan of either of those outcomes.
by Ochophosphate on Feb 14, 2012 12:22 PM CST up reply actions
Me neither
Although Dread did point out that there’s a possibility JC isn’t back all the way this year.
However, I see no reason to limit Dex’s touches to less than what he got this year. He really produced when used correctly, and at times produced despite being used terribly.
If it comes down to choosing between a draft pick and a guy that got us 800+ yards from scrimmage while averaging over 4 YPC, I’m taking the proven guy.

He should run multiple “wheel routes” every game.

If he gets up to 190, he will go high.
FYI, LaMichael put on 10 pounds after last season and entered this season at 195. His weight isn’t updated everywhere you look for whatever reason, but it is updated on his SBNation player page, CFBStats.com page (very reliable college football stats site), and was even prematurely criticized early in the season by one of the local writers that he lost a step due to adding the weight in the offseason. As the season went on, of course, that myth was debunked but it’s become a meme on the Ducks blog AddictedToQuack.
Since he went into the season at 195, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him show up to the combine at 200 pounds. At that point, it’s just a matter of whether he still runs a good 40 time and performs well in the other drills.

He's younger, he never fumbles, he's a better receiver, he's got a better career ypc average, he's got more rushing yards, more rushing touchdowns, and he's got a better name.
Other than that, they’re basically the same player.

Ugh
I would rather draft a 1st or 2nd round Running Back than get Ellis, give it to McClain on the goal line if that is the only thing Green-Ellis can offer. Who cares if he never fumbles when he only offers a 3.7 YPC.
Wouldn’t approve of this hire.
That's better than what Jones averaged
Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.
Hammerfisting my own balls since 2006
But worse than what Battle averaged.

This year.
Career he averages 4 on the nose. He averaged 4.4 in 2010 when he was a thousand yard rusher.

I like the thought of green-ellis, odds are he would get less than what jones got right?
fairly cheap, good player, cant pass that, plus I like depth but I dont like spending a ton on depth I would rather have quality depth at a fair price so i can spend more on my starters.

Am I right in saying
The Chiefs have the most cap room this coming year $62 I’d million or something?

Yes.

I am just so sick of getting former Patriots.
There are others I would prefer but I would be ok with Green-Ellis
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
There is a good chance the Patriots don't even let him go to begin with.

BGE owns one of the best stats that a running back can have:
He has never fumbled in his entire NFL career!
Saw him put one on the ground this season, but he didn't lose it
I remember saying to myself “holy shit, he actually fumbled”

Pass
It would be foolish for the Chiefs to go for the law firm. I don’t think he would be as effective in the Chief’s offense as one with Brady at the helm. Not to mention Lamar Miller would be a better pick in the draft.
If we can get him
we would be absolutely foolish not to. We get all hyped up because we want a bigger name, but this guy is the real deal and will not require even close to the money some of the other FA backs will. He is an absolute throwback who fears nothing and just plows through the line.
A move for him, would give us a lethal 1-2 punch and plenty of money to fill in more holes in FA. It’s not the sexiest RB move, but it’s the smartest.
And Jackie Batlle is not good. He had one good game. One. And that carried him through the rest of the year.
He averaged 4.0 YPC.
Averaged. Not great, but better than one good game.

yeah, Battle is fine
as a #3/4 back and ST player
I hope he is re-signed.
a backfield of JC, BGE, Battle, McCluster and McClain would be very solid and deep
Agreed.
I wouldn’t lose any sleep either way, but he’s fine in his current role.

we gotta re-sign McClain though
not John McClain from Die Hard, I mean Le’Ron McClain!!!

Ok...
but tell me how many games he had where you could say he made any difference at all. Tops two for me. At Indy, Home San Diego. And unfortunately there were 10 more games after that.
Battle was good right where he was before the injuries. If BJGE came here, I don’t see what his use is any longer.
Also, 149 carries for 597 yards equals 3.67 yards per carry.

Robert Green Jarvis James Ellis
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

Although I'm not a fan, at all, of the "all things NE" fetish
I do not hate this move…should KC actually make it.
In accordance with the prophecy
I am the 1%
He played in NE! Bet your house that he will be a Chief in 2012.
I heard today on the ENEP (Everything NE Patriots) network that the Patriots where in talks with the Jackson County Parks Department about officially moving their B team to KC. In the report NE wanted to go ahead with a deal so those playing on the B team and their families lives won’t be up rooted and interrupted in the spring each year.
