Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 2/14

I love you guys. Here's your Kansas City Chiefs news.

Over the weekend, nearly 200 women auditioned inside Arrowhead Stadium's state of the art North Club for an opportunity to join the 2012 Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleading squad.

Following three days of tryouts, only 33 women will wear the skirt...

...The 2012 squad will be unveiled Tuesday evening through video highlights posted on KCChiefs.com. The team will have its first meeting on Friday to prepare for upcoming photo shoots and begin training.

2012 Chiefs Cheerleaders Squad Ready For Valentine's Day Unveiling from The Mothership

Carr seems to be the easier one to replace. While losing him would be a hit to the Chiefs, they can find a Routt or another skilled cornerback. Finding a receiver who can give the Chiefs what Bowe has the past couple of years would nearly be impossible.

Routt's Visit from The Red Zone

NFL free agency begins Tuesday, March 13th at 3:00 PM (CST). With the Chiefs looking to improve depth and competition across their roster, KCChiefs.com will preview 30 potential free agents in the 30 days leading up to the start of free agency. Up today is San Diego Chargers nose tackle Antonio Garay (3/30).

30 FAs In 30 Days: Antonio Garay from The Mothership

Q: Everyone is talking about Miami or Washington as a good place for Manning, How about K.C.? The Chiefs aren't hot on Matt Cassel. They could re-sign Dwayne Bowe, and Jamaal Charles will be coming back from injury. I think it would be a perfect fit and could make the Chiefs into a really good team.

Tyler in Springfield, Mo.

A: That is an interesting proposition and one that isn't being discussed. Romeo Crennel and Scott Pioli have gone on the record saying they will open up the competition for the starting QB job. The thought was that they would re-sign Kyle Orton to compete against Cassel. An upgrade to Manning would be interesting. I would say it's unlikely, but the Chiefs could warm up to the idea as Manning gets closer to being released.

Plenty Of (Cap) Room To Improve from ESPN

Like Carr, Routt would be a good fit with Kansas City No. 1 cornerback Brandon Flowers. Routt was better as the No. 2 cornerback to Nnamdi Asomugha before he became the lead cornerback last season when the Raiders chose to give Routt a big contract instead of Asomugha. Oakland's new leadership cut Routt last week.

Chiefs Jump On Stanford Routt Visit from ESPN

The Spokane Shock announced that WR Verran Tucker has been added to the 2012 roster. Tucker has an impressive football resume that includes 19 games of NFL-experience with the Kansas City Chiefs, the most of any Shock player in franchise history.

Brandon Bulkley, a self-described Kansas City Chiefs fan from Roeland Park, Kan., urged the FCC to "side with the little man for once, because without us there would be no money-making Goliath called the NFL."

FCC Urged To End Sports Blackout Rule from MPN Now

A spasm of success in the ‘90s under Marty Schottenheimer means that a Chiefs fan near the age of 20 can recall when Kansas City was annually relevant. Now though, the maniacal Chiefs fan - and they are legion - wonders how all the good times can pass through other NFL cities and never visit theirs. They haven't won a playoff game since 1993, when Joe Montana lugged them to the AFC Championship where they were slobber-knocked by the Bills. Before that? Just one playoff win since the 1969 Super Bowl run.

Curran's AFC Misery Index from CSNNE.com

2. Dwayne Bowe, receiver, Kansas City: Bowe has major skills and he will get paid. There are consistency and personality questions, but Bowe is a talent.

3. Brandon Carr, cornerback, Kansas City: I know some folks think Carr will be one of the prizes of free agency and he will be paid large by the Chiefs or someone else. But he's a No. 2 cornerback, so I'm always a bit worried to see them get paid before they prove they are No. 1 starters.

Probably the cheerleaders, however..

It is corporate product sold to the masses by Hallmark and 1-800-Flowers because there’s a big gap between holidays Valentines Day.

yeah well

Carr is good and I would like him back but routt doesn’t suck he ain’t a downgrade if at all to carr and who knows how he’ll play under crennel and emitt Thomas coaching and in a pretty stout secondary .

This is true, but to play devil's advocate..

I don’t understand why Stallone felt it necessary to jump the shark and change Expendables 2 rating to PG-13 just to stroke Chuck Norris’ ego. I mean, okay, Chuck doesn’t believe in having cussing and ultra-violence in his flicks, that’s cool, but don’t water down what sells these movies just to complete your ensemble cast. Chuck always has Total Gym, and played out memes to keep him somewhat relevant.

This makes sense

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of “man-love” on Valentine’s day. That is, provided that it doesn’t come with any additional friskiness…

We love you too NJ!

I think Pioli has every intention of bringing Carr back

But I think he’s sending a message to Carr; You are not a No. 1. Dont expect to be paid No. 1 money. As always, Pioli will make an effort to sign a player, but only on his terms.

by Lokrath on Feb 14, 2012 7:03 AM CST reply actions

that would be a stupid and asinine message ... Carr is absolutely worthy of #1 money

I think that you are hitting the nail right on the head

I do not want to lose Carr, never have, not changing my stance now. (|) But….I will say that I would not be apposed to bringing in Routt to replace Carr if a deal cannot get done. I do not think there would be a drop in talent level in our secondary with a move like that and if it is Carr’s side of the table that is holding a deal up due to unreasonable money then do it.

With that said, I still do not want to see the Brandons broken up, I think they are a great duo but if it would have to change then a player like Routt would be the way to go. Routt just being on the market and visiting should send the right message if in fact Carrs side is being difficult. If its the Chiefs being diffcult then this could back fire on them though

I suppose it depends on how you look at Carr ... ie, if you think he's worth #1 CB money or not

in my mind he is

Yea

I think this may be where the Chiefs and Carr do not see eye to eye. The Chiefs already have a number 1 CB and he already has a contract at that. The next part of the hang up may be that Carr is a number 2, albeit a very good number 2 but nun the less a number 2. Could he be a number 1? I think so but the Chiefs may have an issue paying him as a number one when he is a number 2 and has always been a number 2.

I am not a cap guru by any means but this issue could cause some cap issues if the Chiefs match Flowers contract. (I think I read its somewhere around 30 mil but not concrete on that number) If that number is correct the chiefs would be tieing up 60 million in one position. I can see both side of that argument, if the secondary if locked down and the strength of the D then its worth it, the other side of the coin it that tieing up money like that in one position could criple future personel moves.

To make myself clear I do not have the answer to this, just stating the obvious 8)

My preference is to sign Carr long-term and franchise Bowe.

I have a feeling Bowe is going to be looking for money that is more than he is worth, and Carr may be more reasonable.

The next week or so will be interesting. If they decide to franchise Carr (which I don’t think they will becasue the tag for corners is crazy) then I think Bowe is gone. I really don’t think the Chiefs can sign him long term right now.

I really hope the Chiefs are able to

retain Carr. However, if that is not an option, Routt might be an adequate replacement at least for the time being.

But...

Would Routt be any cheaper to sign than Carr? They’re both going to want a big payday…and will most likely get it. So, I’m not so sure either one will be here next season.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

by Scott B. on Feb 14, 2012 7:55 AM CST up reply actions

2 things that might work towards getting Routt in house.

1.) He’s already seen a big payday, hopefully he understands his actual worth and will take a more reasonable deal.

2.) What better way to stick it to the Raiders than to sign with the Chiefs?

I’m not pressed about signing him one way or the other, I’m just saying I can see why he’d pick the Chiefs over others if all things were equal.

except for two things ...

1) he’s going to get a big payday because he can, worth it or not

2) the Raiders would laugh their butts off, point at us and say “ha! SUCKERS!”

In regards to the freaks by the bay..

As long as the money isn’t crazy, and I don’t think we’ll be offering anything bonkers, or at all really, wouldn’t HE want to play Carson twice a year, it helps out with those contract incentives.

Everybody wants a big payday.

But they can only get what the market will bear, and that will be less for Routt than Carr.

Finding a receiver who can give the Chiefs what Bowe has the past couple of years would nearly be impossible.

Last I checked their are some good soon to be free agent WR such as Desean Jackson and Colston

Except...

Jackson is an a-hole. And the Eagles are going to Franchise him.

And Colston has benefited from having a great QB.

I don’t see either one as a fit here.

Those guys have had good QB play

and Bowe has never had a good QB. If Bowe ever gets a good QB he could possibly have some Madden like stats.
