Whats Your Opinion ?
We all think Jaamal Charles is a top 5 running back, and I have to agree. When he is at 100%. I just read an interesting article comparing running backs and there production the first year they return from an ACL injury. To be honest it's not all that promising. We are nearly 63 million under the salary cap. So why don't we go after a quality RB for insurance.
I say one player we go after with a vengeance this year via free agency is Blount. Some of you are calling for Richardson from Bama to be our first draft choice. Personally I do not see him on the board when it's our turn to pick. So why not go after Blount. The experts are predicting him to be over looked because Rice, Foster and Forte are all free agents. It would protect us if Charles does not return 100% and allow Jaamal to progress at a reasonable pace.
Lets take a look at the possibilities, if we acquired Blount. First of all we would have the Thunder and Lightning duo many of you have been calling for. We could run both of them in the backfield split to opposite sides and run draws to whichever side we chose. We could line Blount in the FB position and allow him to lead block for Charles. Blount and Charles are both good at catching the ball, so with the split backfield we could run screen plays all day to either side. This would take a lot of pressure off the QB because teams would fear our running back tandem so much they could not send a full out rush / blitz fearing either a screen or draw play. Rarely would a team feel comfortable blitzing. It would give our QB a little extra time and make our O-line look that much better.
Obtaining Blount would make it possible to draft another position other than RB with our first pick. This would allow us to draft the O-line with the first pick, Making the new duo that much more dangerous. Blount also has the power at running back that the Chiefs need in short yardage situations. He is young and will be around for years. Another benifit, It would allow Charles to not carry the ball as much and be around and healthy when we need him. The playoffs.
To me acquiring Blount via free agency would be one of the best moves the Chiefs could make. Especially since we are not sure what percentage Charles will return at. I say we acquire Blount draft OT first round and then let the defence have the rest of the picks. ESPN reports we are nearly 63 MILLION under the Salary. Sign Bowe and Carr. Go after Blount and Nicks. Draft OT #1, and laugh ourselves all the way the the Superbowl Baby.
PS. This is my first post. BE Kind LOL
GO CHIEFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're talking about LaGarette Blount, right?
The guy that can’t pick up blocking schemes and has to be pulled on passing downs? He likes to run into contact and fumbles. No thanks!
hmmmm...
25 years old, 4.6 average, good blocker, great pounder up the middle. Why not?
Dexter McCluster
I've never heard he was a good blocker
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

ESPN did a review of RB's
and Blount was one of them and it wasn’t anything big but they mentioned his blocking. They said it wasn’t outstanding and had room for improvement but that it is solid

Cool, thanks for the info!

People oftentimes seem to use "260 pounds" as a synonym for "good blocker".
You can’t just stick him at fullback and expect him to be as good as McClain because they’re roughly the same size.
Besides, already got McClain. Great runner, and better blocker and receiver than Blount.

The Chiefs need to acquire a young, healthy, talented back.
That much is absolutely true.
However, there is absolutely no chance that Blount will be anything other than a Buccaneer. Tampa Bay holds exclusive rights on him. TB just has to offer him a minimum 3 year veteran amount and Blount has to sign with them, or leave the NFL. It’s not optional.

And drafting a QB in the 1st should come before drafting OL.

agree RG3 should be our number 1 priority

O-line is a top priority right now.
If we ended up trading up, I would be astounded by Pioli’s ignorance.

but it wouldn't be the first time, right? ;-)

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
TBH a have questioned a number of moves by Pioli.
While there are many things I would have done differently but I look back at what Pioli did, factor in what the options were at the time, and I can clearly tell that Pioli is much better at running a football team than I would be.
He has increased competition at every position across the board from QB (Brokie / Bones) to Safety (Pollard / Page). In the 2010 draft he ‘knocked it out of the part’ with picks like Eric Berry, McCluster, Arenas, Asomoah, Moeaki…even Kendrick Lewis and Cameron Sheffield have been solid contributors.
As good as that draft was the 2011 draft ‘could’ be even better (to early to tell) especially if some of the 2nd draft day guys work out well. I think Houston, Bailey, Brown all have done well in the limited opportunities they have had so far, and if Stanzi can develop into the player some people think he can (Kipper said he was the best QB in the draft…if give time/coaching) that would be some SERIOUS icing on the cake. I know many on AP don’t think lighting can strike the same man twice…but Stanzi has Brady ‘potential’ folks.
Add ‘role players’ that have been brought in via Free Agency (all for very reasonable money) that have started or provided competition, and it is clear to see the man gets bank for the buck like no other GM I could name.
We have come a LONG way from that 2008 2-14 team. I really do trust Pioli to continue to build this team right (though the draft).
I wouldn't mind that
but he can’t pick up the blitz and can’t be used on passing downs also has a little fumble problem but do like him but idk I would like to draft one like pead or Martin or ballard instead but do like keeping our guys and getting Nicks or Grubbs

we already have Jackie Battle as our "thunder" and he's better than Blount in some ways
rather find a RB in middle rounds of draft, 4th/5th is fine to me … seriously, I think if we get DeCastro (LG) and Adams/Glenn/Sanders (RT) our running game (and pass blocking) will be awesomeness incarnate

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
yeah, but...
…if QB isn’t addressed in some fashion, our passing game will continue to wallow in mediocrity. I do agree that we need another RB.
well, if we get DeCastro and Glenn or Sanders or Adams ... that helps the passing game AND the running game
and sure, we can sign Orton (I’d be happy!) and we most definitely need to re-sign Bowe (and Carr!)
think about this: if we DON’T get DeCastro and ride it out with Lilja instead … wouldn’t THAT be “wallowing in mediocrity” as well? considering we were LAST in Red Zone scoring, it might be the WORST thing we could do … worse even than “QB mediocrity”

Need someone who can get that 1 yard.

if you're talking strickly FA
Law firm, Bush maybe, Tolbert okay. Blount would be bottom of the barrel on my list.
LOL
yeah, right…I mean, technically they ARE free agents, but they will get a deal made with their teams or they will be tagged.

Again,
Blount is an Exclusive Rights Free Agent. There is 0% chance he signs anywhere but TB.
"saints_chiefsfan1979 is a genius" - yes, I lost a bet.
I like, in order,
Bush, Tolbert, Law Firm, Hillis, Benson, Snelling, Hightower, Stephens-Howling…
I like the first two because they weaken division opponents. If Lance Ball from Denver does not get signed, I wouldn’t mind picking him up either for the same reason. I know Bush has crushed us in a lot of games, at least 2 or 3 that I recall…remember week 17 in 2010? Ugh.

I said it before
I’ll say it again. Robert Turbin – Utah State, is the guy.
Going off what I read.
This article was written after reading about Blount I believe on CBS Sports. It basically said a deal could be made with him. I do not nor do I pretend to know all the in’s and outs of all the rules involving free agency. You may be completely right about Exclusive Free agents.
Going off the article it said Blount could well be over looked in Free Agency and be acquired at a reasonable price, due to the fact there are so many Quality Free agents available this year. Including Forte, Rice Foster and many more.
Blount had a great break out year 2 years ago. Last year not quite as productive, but the team as a whole struggled. I do not think it was Blounts fault. If we can acquire him and he would line up behind hopefully our improved line I think it will be awsome.
Mark my words he will be a stud in the NFL. A while back NFL Total Access had a little piece about him saying he can catch the ball well has the power to run over people and the speed to run around them. From what I’ve seen I agree. Grant it I do not watch all his games. I’m lucky to see most of the Chiefs games. DA$% honey do’s LOL.
Thank you for a little insight on the whole Free Agency bit and your comments.
Lamar Miller
would be a great pick in the 2nd round imo
ok :-)

So maybe not Justin Houston?

Is this a flashback to summer 2010?
Some of us here were calling for Blount years ago and we were told we were crazy.
We're much better off with Cameron Sheffield

As much as I'd love to have Blount in KC, he's not leaving Tampa
So lets use that third to pick up LaMichael James

What makes you think he's a locker room cancer? Have you been in the Browns locker room lately?

Hillis reminds me of Finley ... a "me first" player
more interested in contract than in team concept … just my perception from all I’ve read about him last year or so (and same about Jermichael Finley of Packers, from what the people at Acme Packing were quoted as saying by Swags a couple of weeks ago)
