Among other things, Starkey points out that Haley didn’t seek out Ben Roethlisberger once Haley arrived at team headquarters, which seems to be yet another Haley homage to one of his mentors, Bill Parcells.

Not sure what to make of this
I don’t think a coach needs to immediately seek out a player, Haley has a lot to do just moving, settling in, reviewing the team, etc. Haley has had player issues though and Rothlisberger is going to be his meal ticket there. If he can’t get along with him then he is going to have a hard time there.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
Ben is the unquestioned leader of the offense.
And his comments about being concerned with the change at OC have been made very public. I get that Haley wants to establish his authority, but if there’s a power struggle between the two, Ben is likely to win. Haley’s job would be a lot easier if he had Ben on his side.
I just need more information to see if this is Haley trying to establish authority though.
The quote just says that once he arrived at team HQ that he didn’t seek out Rothlisberger. Well, are we talking he was there a week, which I doubt since at the time it hadn’t been that long since he was hired, or a day. If he had been there a week or two and not approached Ben then that would be maybe something. If he had been there a day then probably not. In 24-48 hours he is still moving into his office, settling into the situation, probably meeting with Tomlin, signing up for insurance, reviewing the old playbook, all that junk.
I agree, if it comes down to a power struggle between Ben and Haley then Haley is going to be the one to go.

I could see this if it were a lineman or wr or something.
But Big Ben is their freaking franchise qb.

Could it be that Haley is going to continue coaching like he knows how?
Damn straight. Somehow or other, he managed to put Kurt Warner back on the map after a couple of below par years. Listen up Big Ben, Haley is in charge. If you don’t pull the waggon, you may end up walking alone.

Haley is more replaceable than Ben
Don’t get me wrong, I think Haley can make him a better QB ‘IF’ he buys in, but what if he doesn’t? Do you think Tomlin is going to listen when Haley says Ben needs to be benched for a few games a’la Bowe?
Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things
So are you saying that you subscribe to the theorem
of the inmates run the asylum simply because they know where everything is? Something is awry in Pittsburg and it may well be Tomlin. It’s very interesting that many believed that Haley was only getting a ‘courtesy’ interview and then turned out to get the job. Are they trying to put Tomlin on guard? Are they sending a message that they will hire who they want and the team had better get with it? Is Tomlin losing the reigns to Big Ben because others agree with you that he is replaceable? Maybe somebody upstairs decided that nobody is replaceable except the guy who cuts the checks. It’s gonna be a very fun year in Pittsburg—a lot more fun than KC that’s for sure.
