Peyton Predicament, Part 3: Cash, cap ramifications of QB’s lucrative contract
... from Yahoo Sports and PFT, former Packers exec details the ramifications of Manning's current agreement, and how much the Colts save in cap space if he is indeed cut
the answer, of course, is ... a lot!
Were the option exercised, the team would be required to pay Manning a $28 million option payment plus a $7.4 million salary, for a total of $35.4 million in 2012. That combined with the $26.4 million he received in 2011, would mean a combined $61.8 million over two seasons.
Salaries of $8.4, $9.4 and $10.4 million in 2013, 2014, and 2015 follow this year’s salary, although none of these amounts are guaranteed.
Were Manning to be terminated – his contract, not him – all of these numbers would be deleted from the Colts’ ledgers.
Thus, on a cash basis, the Colts would save $35.4 million in 2012 and $74 million over the next four years.

I wonder how much revenue he BRINGS to the ownership.
I would say a whole bunch more.
Holy $4!+ !!!!!!!!!!!
That’s a lot dough!
Peyton Manning is the face of the Colts’ franchise and has won a super bowl. But if I’m Irsay, and even if Manning shows that he is healthy/capable of starting, I think I still cut him regardless. This is a team that is falling at a downward spiral, with or without Manning. Reminds me of the Chiefs a few years ago after the years of Trent Green, etc. Andrew Luck is a QB that needs very little learning curve, at least from what I keep hearing. Time to move the franchise in that direction. Manning to the Dolphins, if healthy, guaranteed.
Peyton to the Chiefs!
You haven’t yet convinced me otherwise Ups. ;)
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

ups get that manning chiefs jersey ready
will the chiefs ever draft a Qb in the first round, not since todd blackledge in 83. and the chiefs could of had marino. OH well atleast 65 toss power trap worked for KC, it should be wide open red. Hank stram still the man.
I dont think any team is worried about how much he costs
IF HE IS HEALTHY…he will bring in so much money to the team that signs him ,it wont even be funny….ticket sales, jerseys, merchandise….ANYTHING that says “Manning” next to his new teams Logo, is gonna sell like crazy….
Im still unsure about WHY Hunt and Pioli were so far under the salary cap the last few years……maybe they were waiting for a player like manning to come available…..Pioli has SOMETHING up his sleeve ….something BIG….I think this is the year he pulls the trigger…
Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli need to IMPRESS me in 2012....No Settling this year Chiefs Fans!!
