"Historically good." "League leader." Yet somehow Bowe suffers from an incredible lack of respect outside of Kansas City.

Agree.

The toughness comment seems pretty baseless.

Not unless

It has been properly seasoned, cooked to medium-well and has plenty of hot sauce.

Jamaal Charles is here to kick ass and chew bubble gum; and he's all outta bubble gum.

The actual NFL front offices are going to have a much better opinion of Bowe than this Chicago clown.

Do we go fetal and beg for mercy? Or do we pick up that broken piece of pipe laying on the ground and come up swinging? I choose pipe.

Great writeup.

Fortunately for Chicagoans, and unfortunately for us, I’m willing to bet Phil Emery knows what that sports writer doesn’t: that Dwayne Bowe is miles better than any receiver the Bears suited up last year. No disrespect to guys like Knox and Bennett.

"[Jamaal Charles] probably fights crime in his spare time while inhaling carbon emissions, exhaling oxygen, and crapping oil. That’s how awesome he is. Not just good for the Chiefs, but America."

if you were a GM

would you praise a potential free agent? they also don’t want everyone else to know that they’re “interested” in said free agent. i just hope Pioli is as interested in Bowe as the fans are!

he will get respect when

and if KC wins consistantly. we didn’t have a problem with 5-6 pro bowlers a year in mid 90’s or early 2000’s. i believe winning gains respect especially in smaller market teams.

by stuck in denver on Feb 11, 2012 11:13 AM CST reply actions

I doubt that happens.

Not trying to be a smart ass but, even the NFL greats have brain farts sometimes. IMO, his drop problem is a thing of the past and a non issue. He’s going to drop balls from time to time just like every other WR at any level.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would compare Bowe to Rice

and just because you don’t remember it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Even MJ missed some free-throws.

Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

sound kinda like a homer.

I love the fact that Bowe is a Chief and I hope he stays with them. He make some of the most spectacular catches in the NFL. He also drops some of the easiest catches which is a fault. But, he is good and the best we have, and I’m glad he is here.

by Mr.Pibbs on Feb 11, 2012 5:03 PM CST up reply actions

Well homer I will tell you that Bowe is not the best in the nfl.

But he is good besides the fact that he drops some easy passes. He is my favorite Chief by far.

by Mr.Pibbs on Feb 11, 2012 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

Don't we wish everyone could make peace like a Homer?

Note to Mr.Pibbs: There are many many many homers ‘round here. And I’m one of em’. Oh, and by the way, I drink Dr. Pepper.

Just a joke.

But I can honestly tell you that I haven’t even seen a Mr. Pibb in years.

That wasnt

exactly an “easy” catch, which are the ones that Bowe cant seem to catch

by badassz1987 on Feb 11, 2012 1:02 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Yeah that would have been one hell of a catch had he made it.

The fact that he even managed to get around and get his hands on it was pretty impressive.

It's no fun if I have to explain it.

by TRSChief on Feb 11, 2012 1:24 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Well obviously.

Mr Pibb changes the entire equation.

I’m pretty sure there’s a rule in the NFL rulebook that forbids consumption of Mr. Pibb within two hours before, or anytime during the games during the season.

It’s just an unfair advantage.

It's no fun if I have to explain it.

My only problem with Bowe has always been his drops.

He’s just had some crazy and crucial drops over the years. Hard catches, he can do, easy catches he suddenly has no thumbs.

Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.

Silly article

He made it seem as if they’re only going to look at games the receivers played against the Bears.

Any receiver that gets over 1,000 yards with 1/4 of the games coming from Palko, should be a Pro-Bowl player by default.

He’s the best wide receiver in the NFL as long as you don’t throw to his weak spot.

His hands.

I'm gonna say most of them

The guy drops some ridiculously easy catches. Other times he completely disappears from games. I’m not saying he isn’t a good receiver, just think we as Chiefs fans rate him a little higher than he should be

are realistically catchable, thats what is so frustrating with him, he will make the impossible catch and drop the easy catch

If he drops it out of his hands, it is true with a good wide receiver.

However, he is still good due to the fact of some of the impossible catches he makes which makes up for the drops. Drops are drops but does not dispute the fact whether or not he is good, because he is IMHO.

Cumulative numbers from 2008-2010 tell a different tale, unfortunately. But he’s shown plenty consistency in 2010 and 2011, and deserves to paid.

Despite the drops, he is at least a top 15 WR in the league

No one is saying he is Fitz, Andre, Megatron, or the other couple of elite WRs, but as our top receiver, and again, a top 10-15, I think he is rated just right around here

I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

by RememberDelaney37 on Feb 11, 2012 12:09 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

He is absolutely a top 15 WR, but the problem is he is going to want top 3 money, and I don't know if he is consistent enough.

If I am Pioli, I franchise Bowe and make him prove it one more year.

Bowe would benefit from a QB that would get in his ass

when he drops passes….Chiefs need a LEADER on offense…thats just ANOTHER knock i have on Cassel…Cassel is a little soft and wont go off on a guy for making a mistake…

I hate saying this because its been beaten to death….but a veteran QB like Manning would demand more from his offensive teammates….as a reciever, you dont want to come bck to the huddle to face Manning after you just dropped a TD pass that hit you in the chest…..

Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli need to IMPRESS me in 2012....No Settling this year Chiefs Fans!!

by KCinAZ on Feb 11, 2012 12:26 PM CST reply actions

Toughness, huh?

That guy apparently doesn’t know that Bowe led all receivers in yards after contact in 2011. Not yards after catch, but yards after contact. Hell, he probably had more than any of our RBs had last year in that category.

1. David DeCastro (Stanford- guard) 2. Nick Foles (Arizona- quarterback) 3. Hebron Fangupo (BYU- nose tackle) 4. Derek Wolfe (Cincinnati- defensive end) 5. Brandon Taylor (LSU- safety) 6. Tom Compton (South Dakota- offensive tackle) 7. Tyler Urban (West Virginia- tight end)

by kc_radrh8r on Feb 11, 2012 12:57 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Yeah there are some legitimate knocks you can make on Bowe

But toughness, esp as a WR, isn’t one of them.

It's no fun if I have to explain it.

by TRSChief on Feb 11, 2012 1:29 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Average #1

Bowe ranked between 10-20th in receptions, yards and yards per game. But tied for 45th in touchdowns last year. And he has a reputation for concentration lapses and attitude problems. He’s a middle-of-the-pack #1 wide receiver.

And as a team, we’ve won AT MOST ONE GAME PER YEAR AGAINST TEAMS WITH WINNING RECORDS SINCE 2007.

Neither he nor the team deserves much more respect than they are getting.

by Chief Farmer on Feb 11, 2012 1:49 PM CST reply actions

He's a borderline #2 receiver who's earned this reputation

Disappears in big games, way too many drops still plagues him. He’s the one I would let go. The Cleveland media loves him, let them have him. I’ll take someone with surer hands in FA. Keep Carr, let Bowe go to the most ridiculous bidder and get his replacement. I like Colston and Laurent Robinson a lot and there are a lot of receivers worth looking at if we can’t get them (Vincent Jackson, Stevey Johnson, Brandon Lloyd).

by Nicoloco on Feb 11, 2012 2:09 PM CST reply actions

If Bowe signs (and I think he will) it will really excite me about Pioli's message;

and not only that, it shows us that players WANT to play for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Think about all the good/great WR talent Pioli has been around. And that talent has almost always been on Pioli’s team for multiple seasons. Not that he made any or all of those decisions, but it is the way he has been programmed to win.

Here’s a list: Troy Brown, David Givens, Deion Branch, Terry Glenn, Keyshawn Johnson, Derek Alexander

You could also add Moss and Welker too if you wanted.

I don't completely agree or disagree with some of this

the toughness thing is crap, but Bowe can physically dominate the field and be a superstar. And then there are times when he disappears and becomes a liability, especially at times when we need him most.

I don’t see Bowe being a leader or a mentor. I see him as needing a leader and a mentor. Just my personal opinion. I do hope we resign him, I’d Like to see what Daboll can come up with for the “Killer-B’s.” Hoping Bowe continues to progress, he has the talent to be a household name. Just needs that elite focus….

hes inconsistent, and id use poor qb play as a reason, but he has some drops, that just make you want to kick him

the 5 yard wide open not even running hook route where he just drops it….kills me.

there is a definite lack of concentration at times, but im not so sure about questioning his toughness, if thats just from collinsworth and that overthrown pass….cmon.

still though, i have no issues with moving bowe off the chiefs in the near future in order to keep carr if thats how it must happen

i have faith in breaston, and baldwin was a 1st rounder

Chiefs fans are so desperate

that they think Bowe is great because he provides an occasional big play, one of the few players we had that could do that the last season. But he’s way overrated by us and probably will be by some other time. Let them overpay for him and let us pick up a much more consistent team player such as Marques Colston or Laurent Robinson (or both). I just looked up Bowe for consistency at fftoday, and he was ranked below Nate Washington and only two spots ahead of Torrey Smith,a rookie who the Chiefs passed on drafting because of their love affair with Baldwin. Smith definitely outperformed Baldwin. Hopefully, yearn two is much better for him otherwise we’re in for another crappy year of production from our WRs. Of course there is the Cassel problem. With Orton slinging the rock, we would have much better productivity.

by Nicoloco on Feb 12, 2012 8:48 AM CST reply actions

Agree on Orton.

I think we will see greatness out of Baldwin in the future. Breaston had a pretty good year, last year, and should be much better this year.
