Former Broncos Safety Says He's Signing With The Chiefs
Former Denver Broncos safety Kyle McCarthy writes on Twitter that he's agreed to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. McCarthy, 25, joined the Broncos in 2010 as an undrafted free agent.
McCarthy went to school at Notre Dame. He's listed at 6'1" and 205 pounds. He's a Youngstown, Ohio native.
The Chiefs will get Eric Berry back next season but they're also scheduled to lose three safeties in free agency -- Jon McGraw, Reshard Langford (exclusive rights free agent) and Sabby Piscitelli. But this move is more about special teams than anything else.
McCarthy played in four games in 2011 and eight games in 2010. He has seven total tackles on his career.
McCarthy was released by the Broncos in December and then re-upped with the team for the final month.

Hrm. Don't know enough about the guy to form an opinion.
Research time!
It's no fun if I have to explain it.

"even total tackles"?
Eleven?
Interesting though…could just be a camp body, or helpful depth.
He was a cast-off from a pretty decent defense
still…buying more from the scrap heap. I wish some of our “scrap heap” guys were guys that got cut for $$$ reasons and not lack of ability reasons.
In accordance with the prophecy
albert haynesworth
would be better at safety than THAT guy.
Just like novocaine. give it time; always works..
The greater the fall, the grander the ascention..
Now that he opened his mouth,
He won’t be signing
RonSkitzo FOR PREZ BRAH
Why are we letting go of Jon McGraw again?
Is it because he’s getting to old or what? I like that guy.
I think it's age
He’s a heady guy, but he just doesn’t have the tools to compete at the same level anymore.
In accordance with the prophecy
Because he was the Palko of the defense, super football nerd, and the football skills of a nerd
“I know where I’m supposed to be, I….just….can’t….get….there….fast”.
"There will be increased competition at every position, including the quarterback position".-Scott Pioli
I wouldn't put anyone
on the Palko level.
McGraw had 3 ints and 1 FF… I wouldn’t say he’s a waste of space like Palko
Palko had more ints than Mcgraw. Palko > Mcgraw
Do we go fetal and beg for mercy? Or do we pick up that broken piece of pipe laying on the ground and come up swinging? I choose pipe.
Sober (again) since January 10th, 2011.

Shenanigans, McGraw was one of the most consistent players last year
He’s not spectacular but he’s rarely out of position and a great veteran rotational guy that knows the system. He’s obviously not a starter but he’s exactly what is meant by the term “veteran leadership”. Plus he doesn’t break the bank.
Yeah I like having Quickdraw around for depth and ST's
I hope starters don’t get injured where he has to come in and start games, then it kind of sucks.
But for spot duty, ST’s and generally knowing what’s going on – good guy to have around.
It's no fun if I have to explain it.
My only knock on McGraw
is he’s been having issues with injury the last couple of years. Maybe that’s normal for the safety spot, I have no idea. I like having a K-Stater on the team and I think Berry and Lewis are still leaning on his leadership. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him signed for another year either.

Nawww.
Pioli just took a secret vacation to Scotland to recruit more white guys with the name of Mc. He’s decided Italians are so passe. So, no worries, McGraw will be back, and just add on McCarthy now, too.
A Dog's Heart
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

Joel Thorman
“scheduled to lose three safeties in free agency — Jon McGraw, Reshard Langford (exclusive rights free agent) and Sabby Piscitelli.”
That means they may or may not be back, not that they are gone
Are you kidding me, Pioli wouldn’t tell Joel (or anyone else including his coaches) if his hair was thinning, let alone what KC was going to do when FA starts.
Think you read that wrong.
Agreed
I really liked McGraw. I like that soph safety at K-State, reminds me of McGraw

Liked him coming out of college.
Not the most gifted athelete but has good instincts and could provide some depth or at least a camp body.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
That would not be a bad thing at all.

Watch Kyle here.
- First defensive back to for Notre Dame to eclipse 100 tackles in a season. (110)
- Led Notre Dame in tackles two straight seasons
- Good Speed, not great
- Great tackler
- Good to great special teamer
- Plays the QB position (yay!)
- Ball hawk
- Aggressive against the run (tends to over pursue, but pursues with good angles)
- Matches up well with big receivers
- Intelligent
- Smooth with good quickness
- Coverage ability is decent at best, meaning he’ll play a lot of zone in the NFL
- Not a big time playmaker, but always productive
- In 2010, Kyle was ranked #11 out of 144 SS’s
Most of this is from nfldraftscout.
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

Probably someone Pioli was interested in after the 2010 draft
Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things
I will say that anyone has to be better than
Pasta Piscatelli
Uhhh...I hate looking at the 1983 Draft and seeing 2 HOF'ers picked after our washed up QB pick.
Suprised the Broncos let go of young talent
Isn’t Brian Dawkins like 55 years old?
Dawkins May Actually Be Done
His last injury plus age and salary make him a long shot to return to Denver…if he ever plays again at all. Definitely surprising they’re letting a young safety go.
Maybe they signed him to help figure out Tebow's complex offensive style
“No, no, no. Option on 1st and 3rd down. Play action pass to the grass on 2nd.”
Special teams guys...
“this move is about special teams more than anything else” Why do you need special teamers? If that is the case get new kickers.
What?
Do you remember those two blocked kicks against Oakland?
Here’s a hint: those weren’t Succup’s fault. There are 11 guys on the field playing special teams, and they all need to be performing at a high level.
That was on Hoffman
He didn’t scheme right for Seymour, and didn’t replace the jerry who allowed Seymour in the first time.
Me and Matt Cassel just - you up, dog!

New kickers?!?!?!?!
Uhm, we have one of the best kick/punt tandems in the business. Was this a rhetorical statement?

It has nothing to do with kickers...
it’s about trying to find a guy to fill JMc’s role. With the new rules you see few (IMO you shouldn’t see any) kick returns. Same with our punter. Why would we go out and look for special teamers vs. quality back-ups. If i’m knocking anyone…it is Joel.
Shouldn't even make the final 53
Why are the Chiefs interested in this loser, looks like another J. McGraw/Sabby prototype(slow, unathletic, and supposedly smart waste of a roster spot guy). If Berry are Lewis goes down I really feel good about this guy coming in…what happen to building depth?
building depth
is exactly what they are trying to do… churning the bottom of the roster is an important part of building a deep team.
you can’t get ProBowl players top to bottom… you need some role players, and sometimes you gotta churn through some scrubs to find the right fits
Brings the question:
Who’s more worthless? Palko or Piscitelli?
