Another Report Says Chiefs' Bill Muir Is Retiring
Well, this is strange. Really strange.
On January 1, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported via league sources that Kansas City Chiefs offensive line coach Bill Muir was "likely" to retire.
On January 24, Bob Gretz of BobGretz.com quoted Muir as saying that he will not retire and he plans to return to the Chiefs, not as offensive coordinator, but as offensive line coach.
And now, February 1, we have another report that Muir will retire. Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com has the report.
So...Muir's retiring...he's not retiring....and now he's retiring.
Anyone know the truth here?

Enough with the Favre treatment, Muir!

Chiefs i.e. Pioli are trying to force him into retirement
Obviously Muir doesn’t want to retire.
Nothing gets leaked from Arrowhead without a purpose, and that purpose is to try and force him into retirement.
If they don’t want him back, just fire him, stop playing games and jerking the guy around
Just stop paying him, it will clear up on it's own
Muir even looks a bit like an old Milton

So now we need an OC, a OL coach, a WR coach, a DC, and a high up draft guru
Um somebody start getting some hiring done fast!
@TruChiefJonRyd
Probably don't need a DC
per se unless Crennel adds that to someone’s title as he’s calling the plays.
Luckily we have a GM that coaches are just lining up to work for

don't forget a #1 WR or #2 CB
Pioli’s not going to be able to sign one of them if he hasn’t to this point. He’ll franchise one and lose the other
That's completely false
Why would the player sign an offer without at least seeing what another team is willing to pay? They have all the leverage in the world right now and aren’t going to do anything until they need to.
by excidium on Feb 1, 2012 1:07 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
then we are in agreement. Pioli could have locked up Carr last season or during this season like Flowers, Hali, etc
Carr’s been getting one year tenders, why would he sign here now that he’s set to be a FA? Pioli will have to overpay the market since he didn’t sign him long-term before this point

maybe, but if the dollars are the same in KC and say Detroit where Carr's from or a SB contender
I don’t think he’ll pick the Chiefs
Tamba Hali was tagged and didn't get resigned until just before the start of the season.
Could go the same way with Carr. I just don’t see them letting Carr hit the market.

Former Chiefs offensive coordinator Bill Muir has retired.
Muir was informed he wouldn’t return as new coach Romeo Crennel’s coordinator, and was apparently unwilling to accept the demotion to offensive line coach. Muir, 69, was a coach since 1968, and in the NFL since 1978. He spent 28 years as an NFL line coach, teaching a power-blocking scheme on the front five.

So much for those hard hitting Bob Gretz questions
"Nobody talked to me," Muir said Tuesday afternoon at the South squad’s practice session for the Senior Bowl.
"I’m planning to coach, until somebody tells me differently."
Muir was reticent to say much more about the situation with Romeo Crennel’s coaching staff. He did acknowledge that he’s been told he will not be the offensive coordinator, but Crennel would like him to stay and coach the offensive line.
"It’s just of those things," said Muir, who has 47 years in coaching and 34 seasons in the NFL. "You go on every day and wait for them to tell you how we are going to move forward or if we are separating. It happens a lot in football."
For the record coach, you want to continue to coach? "Yes" Muir said.
Do you want to stay with the Chiefs as offensive line coach? "Yes."
I was kind of looking forward to Bill Muir coaching the line again, oh well. Quick somebody get Will Shields on the phone.

New 2012 strategy
Pay Carr and Bowe and stick with Cassel. Tank season because this is turning into a gong show. Clean house. And with the first pick of the 2013 draft….QOTF. Its almost worth it at this point.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
Pioli won't sink his ship this year. I agree on needing to clean house though
I’d argue that if we’re looking to clean house and draft QBOTF #1 next year that Bowe should be franchised and traded for draft picks
yeah in 83 we thought we had the the QOTF in todd blackledge, thats the last time we have drafted a qb in the first rd

I love reading all this conspiracy talk about "1 Arrowhead Drive"
This is probably what’s going on. The employees got used to the same bosses/way of life for what…20 years? A new guy comes in and shakes things up…becomes more strict, more detail oriented.
Employees don’t like the change.
Emp A to Emp B: Man things are getting really strict around here, did you hear about that candy wrapper story? It’s almost like he had cameras on it.
Emp B to Emp C: Pioli knew I didn’t hand in a report on time… it’s like he’s watching me or something.
Emp C to media: Uhhh I keep hearing our phones are bugged. (even though I have no proof of this, I’m going to spin it because Pioli doesn’t talk to the media and I can get away with it)
Media: Uses this as a “source”. and THAT’S how a conspiracy is born.
