so....

I’m so sick of losing, I would be ok with all of these… Shaun Rogers maybe not as much as the rest, but ok with all the rest of these guys, if we grab a guard like nicks, why not trade the farm and try to get RG III in the first round… I think it would be worth it for the future of the team…

by kcchiefsfan on Feb 1, 2012 7:28 AM CST via mobile reply actions

Paul Soliai is all I want

Anything else is a bonus to me. Re-sign Dwayne Bowe, see if you can upgrade from Carr with Brent Grimes or Cortland Finnegan and if not re-sign Carr, and then pick up Paul Soliai. He’s only 28 and he should have at least 5 more great years as an elite NT.

Soliai an OT, maybe an OG, and some Safety Depth and we’ve got the best team in the AFC if everyone stays healthy.

by JC25FoMVP on Feb 1, 2012 7:37 AM CST via mobile reply actions

too far

Your homerism is blinding you. Carr still can’t turn his head around on a consistent basis and gets burnt on the deep ball. Grimes and Finnegan are proven against #1 WRs and have been for the past 3 seasons. Carr has been inconsistent at best.

by JC25FoMVP on Feb 1, 2012 8:03 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

i disagree

Carr has improved each year and was pretty damn good this year. He’s better than what’s out there plus he’s still young.

by jcrunninwild on Feb 1, 2012 8:19 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

Brent Grimes is young too

Brent Grimes is a proven shutdown cornerback. He doesn’t have a great pass rush, a great CB opposite of him, he doesn’t have any type of safety play, and he still consistently plays great ball. Most NFL execs would take him over Carr any other day.

by JC25FoMVP on Feb 1, 2012 8:42 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

29 isnt young for CB's.

He is going to want a 5/6 year deal and will be in decline for most of that… Just the odds.

What a year! At least we have the Royals... Oh Wait!

by KSU-Chief on Feb 1, 2012 8:56 AM CST up reply actions

I had no idea he was that old.

With that in mind i’d have to rethink my statement.

by JC25FoMVP on Feb 1, 2012 9:46 PM CST up reply actions

Statements like this give you no credit.
Most NFL execs would take him over Carr any other day.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. This isn’t Madden. It’s not just plugging in a guy with a higher rating. Carr is a better option for the Chiefs. See Eagles and the big CB they picked up last off season.

Fire Scott Pioli + hire Captain Hindsight = Superbowl.

by JayhawksNChiefs on Feb 1, 2012 11:02 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

What does Madden have to do with anything

Im saying if Carr asks for too much money, we might as well pick up a better CB such as Grimes. Grimes is a better CB. And comparing replacing Carr with Grimes to the Eagles this offseason is so illogical i dont even know where to begin. For starters, the Eagles run zone primarily and signed a man coverage corner. Then before that the Eagles got the 2nd worst tackling CB behind Asante Samuels in DRC who is not a nickel CB….yet they started him at nickel. Sorry, the two have nothing to do with each other.

by JC25FoMVP on Feb 1, 2012 9:43 PM CST up reply actions

Let's do it

The old saying “can’t take it with you when you go” is true.

Pioli better spend that money because if he is fired it won’t matter.

Only problem I see is that when reading “War Room” Pioli prides himself in being ultra conservative with Hunts money. That is a HUGE problem. He cares more about cutting cost and saving money than putting a winning FA class out there.

How long should you try? Until.

Would be a great haul

but there is no damn way GB let’s Finley walk. None.

In accordance with the prophecy

by SCKSChief on Feb 1, 2012 7:54 AM CST reply actions

actually

talk to some of their fans over at the acme packing company and find out quickly that they think Finley can walk and they wouldn’t even feel it. They have like 3 or 4 stud TEs.

Imo Finley will happen for someone. And someone will overpay. We won’t be the guys overpaying. I could see him joining Sanchize or something.

I heard that he wants to get paid like a WR

because he feels that he is more spread out than on the line in a true TE position

Just say no to Peyton Manning

I’m not interested in a stopgap measure. I’d rather this team build for the long haul.

by Dagda on Feb 1, 2012 8:04 AM CST reply actions   1 recs

I tend to agree

I think the Chiefs are the best team for him, but the guy is 36 coming off three neck surgeries in two years. Also, would he be able to walk into a new team and be the “Peyton” everyone thinks? Close enough to put the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game most likely, if he’s healthy all year.

I like the idea of the nose tackle and guard, except don’t expect the FT to be used on Brees, they’ll sign him fairly soon and he’ll become the newest highest paid QB in history.

A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.

Last I heard Brees and NO are way off on a new deal

and they have quit a 3 or 4 key players that are FA this year and they can’t pay all of them.

I'd heard this too

They will have franchise him because Chase Daniel ain’t the answer! If only Pioli will spend a little money this off-season…

In accordance with the prophecy

by SCKSChief on Feb 1, 2012 9:12 AM CST up reply actions

By doing what, sticking with Matt Cassel?

Guess what folks, this team isn’t getting a franchise QB through the draft anytime soon (unless they win the lottery with someone like Stanzi). There’s nothing to say that Manning can’t play for another 4-5 seasons, which happens to nicely coincide with Charles, Hali, DJ, Berry, Breaston, Baldwin (and hopefully Bowe) who are all under contract for the next 4-5 years as well.

It’s funny how people say “I’d rather just draft a franchise QB” (not that you said this)….as if it’s THAT simple.

Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things

by jmcgoblue on Feb 1, 2012 8:43 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

The crux of the whole issue

isn’t drafting vs signing. It simply has to be “is Manning healthy?”. If he can prove he can make the throws, there is no reason to NOT sign him. He would be worth every nickel and is a very healthy guy other than the nerve thing. If he can’t make the throws, then KC has to look elsewhere.

In accordance with the prophecy

by SCKSChief on Feb 1, 2012 9:14 AM CST up reply actions

Yep, that's exactly how I feel

I just find it odd that a few people on here don’t seem to want Manning even if he is healthy because he won’t be here for 15 years. Personally, I think he could be effective for at least another 5 years if he has no more issues with the nerves. He’s been one of the least sacked QBs in the NFL for years, and the officials will throw a flag for breathing on the guy after he’s released the ball. Hell, Joe Montana had a physique like me & he was able to play into his late 30s.

Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things

by jmcgoblue on Feb 1, 2012 10:24 AM CST up reply actions

100% agree

hell, 1000% agree. If Manning can make the throws, sign him up immediately…or sooner. 5 years of Manning is like 10 of just about any other QB, IMO.

In accordance with the prophecy

by SCKSChief on Feb 1, 2012 10:54 AM CST up reply actions

Manning would be worth it with the team we have right now, in my opinion.

If we signed a healthy Manning, we’d have a legitimate shot for a couple years.

But people have seen Joe Montana. They’ve seen the rest. They want the Chiefs to have a QB of their very own, not someone’s leftovers. Again. And I can’t say I necessarily disagree with that.

by bamachief5558 on Feb 1, 2012 2:40 PM CST up reply actions

Kinda agree kinda disagree...

Last time we went to superbowl….twice…was with Len Dawson…franchise QB

Last time we went more than one and done in the playoffs was with Montanna…another franchise QB

Montanna and Manning are different. Montanna really was past his prime. And Montanna’s game only really worked right with a true west coast offense. So, when he came to KC….he was still Montanna but a Montanna that was past his prime and trying to fit a square peg in a round hole on this team…and…and…we still went deep into the playoffs.

Manning on the other hand is a mutant cyborg with a laser rocket arm. He is going to play at 110% until his head falls off….really…his head might fall off. Also, Manning can play on any offense and win with his style. Because, basically, as the colts have shown…its Manning…and the rest of the offense is incidental. Although, he does need a few good receivers…and we got a few now.

So, in conclusion…grab a healthy Manning at all costs.

You can do both.

I don’t see how signing Manning would stop the team from continuing to build through the draft, and re-sign their core players. He’s not going to cost them draft picks, and they have plenty of cap space.

I think we'll hear all of those names and others mentioned as a target as the Chiefs.

When the process, it is a process, is complete we will have not spent the money, but it will appear as if Pioli had tried. He said he wanted to build from the draft, and I think we will be lucky if we see one solid free agent signed. I hope I’m wrong.

Just 1 problem and it's a big one to me

I have an issue with anything written like this, I didn’t hear one mention of winning, the author talks about PR and “excitement.” But isn’t winning the goal?

Also the whole Manning thing wasn’t one of the big criticisms of the Chiefs that we don’t draft QBs and that’s something we wanted to fix, develop our own QBs, build the QB position through the draft, but once it’s Manning we’re talking about that all goes out the window. You build a team to win in the long run not auction off the future for the possibility of short term success.

by OmahaNick on Feb 1, 2012 8:30 AM CST reply actions   1 recs

Getting Manning could fix the QB position for the long haul

If Manning is healthy he has 3 or 4 years left. In that time whatever young gun we have backing him up he will learning from him, like Rogers learned from Favre, but Manning won’t be a dick and actually try to help the youngster learn.

Why don't we just trade for Curtis Painter then, he's already got all this warming the bench behind Peyton experience

Manning runs an offense like no other in the NFL, he’s an offensive coordinator on the field, he’s a once in a generation player in that respect, I don’t believe its something that can be taught.
Rodgers was a first round pick so that means carrying 2 expensive QBs ( I know the new draft pay structure will help limit that) so what positions don’t get addressed because of the salary invested in this “young gun” of yours.

And if Manning is the super trainer why isn’t Curtis Painter better? Can you name any QBs who were warming the bench behind him who turned out to be great? Is Jim Sorgi a great QB, how about Brock Huard? If he’s going to be a trainer for a rookie why not try to get him after he retires to be our QB coach?

by OmahaNick on Feb 1, 2012 8:53 AM CST up reply actions

What do you mean?

Tee Martin was great behind Manning. He won a National Championship.

by old_school on Feb 1, 2012 9:24 AM CST up reply actions

With the Colts

Manning was still playing at a high level and no other QB got reps and Indy never had a backup plan for Manning. Their backup QB’s were just paid fans and it was an “oh shit we have no backup” situation when Manning couldn’t play this year which is why they brought Kerry Collins off the street. If KC brought Manning they will have someone here to replace Manning when he is done. That is why GB drafted Rogers. Favre kept hollering he was gonna retire so they went and got a backup plan to prepare themselves

Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.

Manning is a good solution

We do want to draft a QB that is a long term solution, but besides Luck and RGIII (who we won’t get), every other QB in the draft is a big question mark. So who would you rather have Stanzi or a QB we draft in the 4th or 5th round this year play behind…. Manning or Cassell? Who would you rather lead this team over the next 3 years…. Manning or Cassell?

by BigChief43_IL on Feb 1, 2012 8:46 AM CST up reply actions

Every player in every draft is a question mark

There are no guarantees in life, even fewer in the draft, yes I did just say there are fewer than none. Thats why you hire people who are good at evaluating young talent. I love your false dichotomy of course Cassel and Manning are the only 2 QBs in existence!! What about drafting a QB in the 1st round next year or maybe our professional talent evaluators see someone besides Luck and RG3 this year that has a lot of potential, that we would take in the 1st or 2nd.

On The List

I believe Soliai had a down year and I don’t want Rogers…he was a stopgap two years ago, now he’s just old.

Nicks should be at the top of our wishlist if the Saints let him walk.

Finley Would Be Intriguing

He’ll be a year recovered from knee surgery at that point, so I think he’ll end up having a big rebound.

Does GB

have any other players they would use the FT on? I am pretty sure that if a long term deal isnt done they will just FT for next year. FT for TE will only be $5.4mil.

My list

1. Peyton Manning
2. Dwayne Bowe
3. Chris Myers, C/G, Texans (great player, good fit for ZBS, probably much cheaper than Nicks…remember if you’re going after Manning the cap does become an issue)
4. Paul Soliai (If not then Rogers is fine)
5. Brandon Carr
6. Dallas Clark (again, Finley will be too expensive) Clark would be a good mentor to Moeaki, and would help in transition for Peyton.

my list (again)

1) Bowe
1a) Carr
1b) McClain
2) Gilberry
3) Richardson (depth)
4) Soliai OR Rogers ( I think Rogers is MUCH more likely )
5) Dreessen or Carlson (either one makes TE a solid position group with Moeaki)
6) BGE or Ryan Grant (either makes sense to me, replace Jones with a versatile player)

by stagdsp on Feb 1, 2012 9:06 AM CST reply actions

I wonder if the ’phins will make much of an effort to retain Soliai since they are moving to a 4-3? Personally, I think the Jets will go after him.

Finley if you let Bowe walk would be a good pick up. Start running double TE with Baldwin and Breaston outside, Charles out of the backfield. Not a bad offense.
