From Gretz
Bob does a good job articulating the situation so I thought it was worth sharing part of the article...
...We’ve all heard so much from Clark Hunt about how he wants his organization to be like the Steelers, and then he turns around and does things that are completely opposite of what would happen with the Rooney family. Maybe if this job works out, Haley will actually get a taste of the Steelers Way.
It’s become more and more apparent that even though he was named coach of the year by some outlets in 2010, won a division title and got the Chiefs into the playoffs with a lineup far from championship caliber, the organization wanted to dump him after that season. Unfortunately, neither Hunt nor GM Scott Pioli had the guts to pull the trigger and make the move, so worried were they about the public reaction to firing a coach that made the playoffs.

Far from compelling
He throws all of this conjecture out there, goes on to say “I don’t buy into a lot of conspiracy theories…” but then tries to wrap it all up into the “fact” that money want spent on free agents?
This has played itself out. Considering he talks about how the local media just spit out all of the Haley crap to make him look bad, that is EXACTLY what he is doing himself about Hunt. Tired of hearing about it. Haley is gone, and he isn’t coming back. Moving on
I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

The local media has spit out a lot of crap to make both Haley and Pioli look bad
Seems like they have spit out more on Pioli though. I haven’t seen full front page articles in the KC Star blasting Haley for anything. Nor on Gretz site.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
Haley's not here anymore.
Wouldn’t be any fun for them or garner them as much ratings as Pioli bashing does.
That's true.
It’s just dumb. When Haley was here they ripped on him. Now that he is gone the local media make him to be a saint and Pioli to be the antichrist.

I posted this on that page...I wonder if he'll approve it

So Bob, is this pretty much all speculation on your part? Frankly it’s hard to know which side to believe, since all communication is done through back channels & anonymous sources. Maybe Haley did get a raw deal…then again, maybe he did have an uncontrollable temper & was hard to work with. I do agree though, that if they intended to let him go they should have done so after the playoff loss. Then again, if Pioli really had it in for Todd, why go out & spend $25 million on Steve Breaston for him? Why spend $3m on Gregg? Why sign Jared Gaither (who appearantly wasn’t good enough to replace the worst RT in the NFL, yet was good enough to not allow a single QB pressure in SD) And why pick up $2.5m of Kyle Orton’s contract to try and salvage a shot at a playoff birth?
Also, regarding the contract money. Haley went to the press and basically accused Pioli &/or Hunt of a felony crime, yet apparently had no proof of this. Do you think this ‘might’ be a violation of his severance agreement?

speculation ... and yet Pioli says in his own book that Haley knew he'd get fired ... a year ago
why would Haley think that, a year ago at the combines? and how would Pioli know that Haley had that idea?

I read the book & don't recall anything like that

Speculation? Yes, but Gretz is pointing to the irony and the evidence and trying to draw conclusions...
Steelers are interviewing Haley who Clark mentions as a franchise model he’d like to emulate. The only significant free agent signed the past two years was a player that only signed because Haley was the head coach (Breaston). Still holes on O-Line, QB, NT, SILB, despite some NT and RT’s available in free agency last year and Chiefs with one of the lowest payrolls in the league and still making the playoffs. Say what you will about Haley’s methods and starting Demorrio Williams ahead of DJ, receiver Z ahead of Bowe, and TJ/LJ ahead of JC, when he took over as HC, but all three of those players are vastly improved over where they were when Haley took over the team and are 3 of the best 4-5 players on the team now. Haley did more good for the team than bad. To use a quote from Will Shields and Brian Waters, Haley “left the team in a better situation than when he arrived”

What "evidence" do you expect to see?
A written affidavit that he had planned to fire Haley? A bloody glove? A statement from Breaston that he came to KC to play with Haley. He suggested that in his interview last week. I didn’t realize people took that Show-Me bullshit so literally.

Something beyond conjecture.
Sorry I just don’t believe controversial and outrageous claims without evidence.
And wtf does Breaston have to do with this? He’s not going to give up his salary for Haley. Breaston is a player. He may have come here in part for Haley, but now Haley’s gone. He knew that could happen.
But you'll try to discredit media members without evidence.
And you try to call other people hypocrites.

?
I use what they actually say in public as the evidence for that.
Think just a bit before irrationally spouting off.

What does Pioli ever say in public? He could stand in front of you and have piss running down his leg and if he said he spilt some water you'd believe him?
C’mon, there’s too many “coincidences” to ignore.. Several members of the media, including national media members who have reporting these things. the only thing that no one other than Babb ran with was the phone tapping
maybe not, but you replied to my post saying there's no evidence
so if that’s the case you should have elaborated in your initial reply

Yet you claim
Haley was starting palko out of spite
Haley was interfering with the playcalling
Haley was calling plays
Weiss was the reason we won last year/cassel improved/jamal charles
etc etc etc

1 I've never said was true. I've speculated it could have been the case, but readily admit it's speculation.
I saw Haley call plays, and even he said he cut in at times.
So…yeah
so if you engage in speculation and wild accusatory claims it's ok ...
… but if someone else their own thoughts, knowledge and experience to draw conclusions different than yours, you call it “speculation” and jump on it as being untrue because there’s no proof
ok then

Haley is anything but a Steelers style coach though.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
Cowher was a yeller but not all the time
He was fair but firm and everyone always knew where he stood. I don’t know of any former player who hates Cowher and I don’t remember him getting in back and forth screaming matches with his players on the sidelines. Yeah, he yelled but I don’t remember a time, like with Haley, where other players had to intervene. Nor do I remember where he publicly embarressed players or coaches with his tantrums.
