The likelihood to find our next franchise signal caller is smaller than last year. Finding our next franchise quarterback without a coach to maximize his potential is worse than thinking career back ups can lead us to the promise land. Therefore, the next coach of the Kansas City Chiefs must be quarterback friendly.
I love Lovie Smith. I love Bill Cowher. However, as great as they are......they are not the answer to our biggest problem. Our biggest problem is quarterback play. Therefore, why not use someone that can help develop a young Geno Smith. Consider how awful Donovan was away from Andy Reid. Good god...how about Kevin Kolb. Despite a poor year this year, how about Michael Vick? Wasn't there 2 coordinators that made Matt Cassel impressive?
Kyle Shanahan = RG3? Bruce Arian = Andrew Luck/Peyton Manning? Romeo Crennel has been regarded as one of the best defensive minds in football. Unfortunately, he had virtually zero chance with Matt Cassel and Daboll controlling the offense. Fortunately, we do not have to make the same mistake twice. We can hire a coach to improve what needs to be improved the most (our god awful quarteback play and offensive playcalling).
Consider a Chip Kelly and Geno Smith duo? Consider how much better the running game gets on teams with a dual threat quarterback. Chris Johnson was actually a 2k rusher averaging 5+ ypc with Vincent Young. Michael Vick enabled Warrick Dunn to be relevant. I'm not even sure Alfred Morris would have broken 1,000 yards without RG3. Imagine defenses exhausted from passing plays being extended and chasing a quarterback all around the field followed by having to stop Jamal Charles.
If we are going take the plunge into finding someone that can lead our franchise. Then it only makes sense that we take that plunge with someone that is able to teach them how to swim. Clark Hunt....you have great criteria for a new head coach.....but at the end of the day there should be one focus.....finding someone that will maximize talent.
