To begin with I believe the best thing to do is retain Scott Pioli, because I think he has done a good job og filling the roster with decent talent. However his faults have been impactfull missing on QB and HC.
If you look back at the comments Clarke Hunt made when he took over, there was a word he kept repeating: CONSISTANCY. He wanted to create a stable franchise like the Steelers organization and create an environment where he could attract the most talented people running the show.
The classy move for Hunt would be to keep Pioli for the remaining year of his contract. I believe that giving the GM an opportunity to go the full length of the contract would get the chiefs in a better position if it still doesn't work out next year. The stability of an organization would make it a safer move for a new GM to take the job thereby attracting bigger names (eg. raiders have the reputation for "killing" their coaches making it nearly impossible to attract any big names)
In addition I think that Hunt has a good relationship with Pioli, which make a firering harder and that Pioli has done a lot og different changes to streamline the chiefs organization. All the stories of bad leadership might be unhappy fired employees that tries to get back at him or aren't happy with changing their working habbits. Not necessarily a reflection of bad leadership.
I think Hunt see's this and therefore Pioli will not be fired. Whether or not we have a new HC next year remains to be seen. (I think it would be awesome to have either andy reid or ken whisenhunt)
Reports of retaining Pioli is floating around.
