Big Shout Out to Donald Stephenson, baby!!! It looks as if our hometown boy will displace Brandon Albert at LT. That gives us great flexibility in the off season. As I watched all the posts of what to do with the first pick, I was thinking LT, and in particular the kid from A&M. Doesn't look like we need to go there now.
In fact, I have advocated here at AP that Albert would be a Pro Bowl RT instead of a pretty good LT. I don't think Albert would resign as a RT, but he would be a huge upgrade to Winston in the pass pro. it is possible they tag Albert and move Donald to the RT position and part ways with Winston. In fact, Winston would make a pretty good free agent for some other team. As you can see I am not a big advocate of guys who cannot pass block and gets one of our QB's put on IR for a concussion.
If this happened, not likely as Albert will do a Brandon Carr and sign somewhere else for the $'s, then we would have the Franchise Tag to use elsewhere-or not all. Nice dilemma for the GM in not having to tag a guy. I certainly do not want to see Bowe tagged and have been a critic of his for some time as being the "man". A guy who drops to many passes when it counts and an average route runner is not worthy of top dollar that the tag brings.
Still, I am extremely pleased that Stephenson has played so well and think he will just get better as time goes by. As much as I like to villify Pioli of late, he has done some good in the draft and this guy is one of the players that I am glad see on this team. He showed up and played pretty well against the donkeys last week which has a great pass rush, then played well against the Panthers. Seeing is believing and Donald may have given us a great home grown talent that frees up the team to do different things as it goes forward. Hot Damn and GO CHIEF'S!!!!!
