I am a lifetime Chiefs fan. However, I do not see our team in the same light as most of our fans. I see a roster full of young talent. I see a national media that blames the fans for voting in Chiefs players. However, I do not see a fan base that is large enough to over shadow the votes of other coaches and players. I see a secondary that started out awful due to injuries and a lazy Stanford Routt. I see an offensive line that has consistently missed 3 + starters a game. I see a general manager that has delivered some of the best young talent in football. I see a coach that is not being given much of a chance to succeed.
Our future ultimately boils down to three items:
1. Who can we find at quarterback that can enable our defense and running game to have a fighting chance to win games?
There is nothing I would love more than having a franchise quarterback. However, what would the season look like with a decent quarterback that does not turn the ball over?
2. How much of our passing game problems lie on the shoulders of Daboll?
The average fan sees the NFL as a passing league. However, most high powered throwing offenses are actually running the ball through the arm of their quarterback. A lot of this has to do with ball placement and enabling receivers to obtain yac. However, another strong part of it is using screens and running backs more in the passing game versus blocking.
3. How much of a threat is our team pass rush?
We have two of the best edge rushers in football. However, nothing discomforts a quarterback more than pressure from the inside pass rush. Hali and Houston are great at envoking double teams. I do not feel that Poe or the other guys are bad at rushing the passer. It just appears at times they are too concerned with two gapping and freeing up line backers when they should be licking their chops to get to the quarterback.
I could go into more depth with these topics. I could fill each concern of mine with statistics. However, I do not want to waste the time of mine or whoever reads this post. I just wish the misery party that has taken over our fan base took a second and considered how much things can change from one year to the next even in the event small changes are made.
