This is my first real post (I think I commented earlier), so when perusing it, please bear that in mind. Thanks.
The year was 2011 (I think), and we had just picked up Steve Breaston from free agency. This Chiefs fan was excited about the pickup - with Breaston complementing Dwayne Bowe (who had already sort of proven himself, minus the nagging consistency issues) and an up-and-coming Jonathan Baldwin in our receiver corps, there was no way sportscasters and pundits wouldn't take note of our three "Killer B" wideouts.
Last year (particularly, to my memory, against the Colts) Breaston proved that he was a decent signing; while he is no Jerry Rice or Marvin Harrison by any means, he was a solid receiver and got us into the end zone at least once (and possibly twice). A decent pickup, and a smart move by the office staff.
This year, however, and especially in recent weeks, Breaston hasn't seen much action - in fact, for at least the last two or three games, he's been inactive, and I can't figure out why. (Perhaps that's my fault for not paying attention to Arrowhead Pride and seeing any rumors or anything like that, but I digress.) I still haven't been able to put my finger on his continued non-playing; if we signed him for several years, and paid him so much, why isn't he seeing any minutes? I can understand why he's out if he's injured, but if it's due to poor play, perhaps we should look to the fact that the quarterback couldn't get the ball to him (or, for that matter, any receivers) of late (though this has improved, slightly, in the last couple of weeks). Or is it just a move by the front office and the "powers that be" to help get the newbies some minutes?
Either way, with Bowe out, hopefully Steve-O can get some minutes and hopefully continue to show that he was a solid signing.
