Yesterday (or maybe two days ago?) I was in a thread where we ended up talking about favorite TV shows. It was a refreshing distraction and made everyone feel better. Right now we could probably all use a distraction on the sad state of the Chiefs and so I decided to write a post completely off topic. There are two ways to make ourselves feel better about the Chiefs: talk about stuff that is really funny and happy to make us forget or talk about stuff that is so incredibly sad that the Chiefs situation makes you feel happy. I am choosing the second of the two for this post. In fact, I plan on talking about some of the saddest video game and movie moments. I of course can't remember all of them so please add any in the comments. You may cry, you may not but hopefully this will get you thinking about something other than the Chiefs. Oh, and there will be spoilers so don't say I didn't warn you.
Let's start the list in no particular order with the movie Up. Man oh man this movie made me cry. It took all of like 10 minutes too. The whole opening clip with Carl and Ellie, ho boy, I am already tearing up just thinking about it. Then at the end when he finds out what Ellie put in the back of the scrap book; WHY MUST YOU MAKE ME FEEL THINGS PIXAR! I love you and hate you for it.
Since we are talking about Pixar movies we might as well discuss Wall-E. What a fantastic movie with so many heartfelt moments. There was one scene in particular though, that made me tear up: Wall-E forgetting who Eva was when she tried to fix him up. I am thankful that Pixar didn't leave it that way because I would have been pissed as I walked out of the theater bawling.
If you have seen that movie, you know exactly why this will make you cry. Old James Ryan says this to his wife as he sits in front of the grave of Captain Miller, the guy that saved his life. Right before he dies he looks to Ryan and says "James, earn this...earn this." Gets me every time.
I was a kid when I watched this but it really effected me and to this day I still tear up when I see it. The death of Mufasa in The Lion King hurt, hurt me a lot. He was such an awesome father and king and he did all that to save his son. SCAR YOU MOTHERFUCKER HOW COULD YOU?!
Have you seen the movie My Girl? Yeah, when he dies at the end from the bee stings trying to get her mood ring back, still gets me. I was so mad at her for the rest of the movie because she seemed so ungrateful. What does your mood ring say now huh?!
I have not seen this movie but I have heard that the whole movie Grave of the Fireflies is sad. Depending on how the rest of the season goes I may have to watch it.
Yeah, I cried during the scene in the rain where he dies. Good thing it was raining so you couldn't tell...oh wait...
This whole game is sad but you don't really start to feel it until the middle when you start wondering why you are killing all of the Colossi. You are alone in an area with no animals, no people; just you, your trusty steed Agro, and Colossi. You develop a bond with Agro not only because you need him to survive but because he is the only companion you have had through his entire journey. I admit bawled when that bridge collapsed and he kicked you off to safety as he fell to his death. Seriously, I have never loved a horse so much.
Speaking of horses, did any of you watch the Neverending Story? Artax, NOOOOO!
How many of you played Final Fantasy VII and equipped Aerith will all this awesome gear and leveled her only to watch that bastard Sephiroth, IN A CUTSCENE WHERE YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING NO LESS, stab her in the back? Yeah, time to reset and throw all the crap gear on her...a week later.
Another game I haven't played but I hear is sad is To The Moon. Apparently if you make it through his game without crying you have no soul and are a spawn of
Rush Limbaugh Satan.
I am man enough to admit I cried at the end of The Notebook. Why I watched that with my wife is beyond me. Now she knows I have feelings.
I don't know why but the end of Cool Runnings always gets me. Maybe it is the fact that they come together as a team (looking at you Chiefs) and decide that they "have to finish the race." I know a team out there that could learn something from this (looking at you again Chiefs...)
I loved Stargate SG-1 when it was on and, surprisingly, so did my wife. In fact, I was not allowed to watch it without her. She is one of those people that develops deep bonds with characters and can't stand it when bad things happen to them. Here two favorite characters in both SG-1 and Atlantis where Dr. Frasier and Dr. Beckett. Man was she pissed at the writers for killing them and making her cry. I would have laughed at her anger had I not been trying to get the dirt out of both my eyes.
I suspect many of you probably are tearing up a bit, whether you admit it or not :) So, to conclude this rather sad fanpost remember that, while the Chiefs are very, very, very bad right now, at least they don't make you cry...yet. :)
