Under the Radar Candidate for Head Coach

Change is a coming, like it or not. I offer that just as an expression, frankly. I don't know who would be opposed to change on this abysmal team. I just can't see anything but the Chiefs cleaning house at the end of this year.

Like most of us, I end up having to spend my Sundays focusing on distractions to help keep me from dwelling on the terrible product on the field. I'm sure I'm not the only one that daydreams about fonder times for this franchise.

I have fond memories of the glory days of this franchise during my lifetime. I desperately want this franchise to get back to this point.. I want the franchise to get back to consistently competing each year. I want to get back to feeling like this team can win any game, at any time.

Through my reminiscing, I keeping thinking back to a major figure in Chiefs history who was a part of the teams most recent glory days. A guy who developed talent and developed a consistent winner. A guy who I certainly think would be receptive to coming back to Kansas City. A guy who I think would love the shot to be the head coach of this team. A guy with a track record of success. A guy who brings such credibility with his name that he makes all those around him better. With the credibility that comes with this guys name, I think it would be easy to quickly fill out one of the most talented coaching staffs in football. A man as universally respected as this candidate should not have trouble getting excellent talent to join him in Kansas City. Players would want to play for this guy and coaches would want to coach for him.

The more I think about it, the more fired up I get. I don't know if its a realistic possibility. I sure as hell hope it is a realistic possibility. I get pretty damn excited about the possibility of bringing back this legendary Chiefs coach to right the ship.

By now, all these hints have probably blown the suspense I was trying to build. There surely isnt a Chiefs fan amongst us who hasn't already figured out who I'm talking about. In my opinion, we the fans need to demand that the team make this happen. We need to demand that the Chiefs hire Gunther Cunningham as the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gunther brings to the table everything we need. Well respected leader of men - check. Personality that makes the media (and the ladies) swoon - check. Technical proficiency (X's and O's guy) - check. Elite NFL mind - check. Track record of proven success - check. Not Todd Haley - check. Not Romeo Crennel - check.

By my scorecard, he brings it all to the table and then some. I wont lambaste you with further superlatives about Gunther. You all remember what made him so great.

I've stuck a poll in as a part of this post. I use it as a barometer of interest in this idea. If the rest of the Chiefs nation is as passionate as me about Gunther, I'll probably look to get an online petition drive going to make it happen. I'll follow up with the Gunther petition after I see how this poll goes. Thanks for reading.
