Serious question: Should we be running a 4-3 as our base package?

Before we all bid Dorsey farewell, it seems that this should be considered. The core of our D's front seven (Hali, Dorsey, DJ) were drafted in a 4-3 scheme. And scouts like Russ Lande have consistently believed that Dontari Poe is better suited in a 4-3 defense. Further, I would much rather see us waive TJax than Dorsey, as in a 4-3, I believe Dorsey has much more upside than TJax does in a 3-4.

So when (hopefully) Pioli is shown the door, might the new GM/Coach look at our personnel and reinstate the 4-3 as our base package? A front four of Hali, Poe, Dorsey, and Bailey/Pitoutua/S. Smith would be formidable. DJ can remain our MLB, Houston on one side, and we would probably need to pick up another free agent or 2nd round LB.

Simply put: after the Carr/Routt debacle, I have no faith whatsoever in the decisions Pioli has been making, and after four years, I am not sure that he has actually built a legitimate 3-4 defense, when two of the "three" need to come out on all passing plays.
