I am probably going to get a lot of flack from this but My question is this; Is this Scott Pioli reaching out of desperation to save his Job or Is this a preview as what we can expect to see next year?
First I will say something about the desperation and Scott Pioli trying to save his job. Last Year the Chiefs brass let Todd Haley go and hired Romeo as the interim head coach and the team rallied around Romeo winning 2 of 3 games and one of them being against at the time an unbeaten Green Bay Packers. Then following the seasons end, which put us out of a high draft pick and out of the top 10, Chiefs fans and brass all clamored for Romeo to have the interim tag taken off and be named Head coach. Pioli reached in the 1st round of the draft by selecting
Dontari Poe instead of addressing our QB conundrum and relying on the team with Cassel at the helm. Kyle Orton was lead out of the door and Dallas hired his services while it was his (Orton) success and knowledge that lifted and rallied the Chiefs in their final victories. Palko was horrible, Cassel was injured, and Stanzi was unproven. Scott Pioli has shown blind faith in Cassel to lead this team and it has been his downfall except for 1 season in which Cassel lead the team to the playoffs with a decent QB rating and an arguement in the Weiss, Haley debacle and who used Cassel better. Weiss was allowed to leave and Haley stayed till he was let go during the season which brings me back to Romeo. This season has been awful (that's putting it nicely) with the Chiefs sitting at 1 - 7 season so far that Cassel received a concussion because of poor performance. Eric Winston was a big free agent acquisition to shore up an o line in which he has not been to much better than the man (Richardson) he replaced. We then have Romeo and his post game conferences saying the same thing like a broken record in He does not know why we are playing like we are and we have to evaluate this and see what gives us the better chance. Meanwhile Eric Winston is the straw that broke the camels back with his rant to reporters after Cassels concussion and while I agree with somewhat of what he said it was neither here nor there and everyone has their own right to cheer or not. I will not get back into that discussion any further. Romeo was forced almost to start Brady Quinn at starting QB one for Cassel being concussed and 2 the fans clamoring for change. Romeo announced that Brady Quinn will be the starting QB and he does not want him to look over his shoulder that the job is his. Brady then had an awful game against the Bucs, which could've been contributed to him being rusty but as we are finding out it is because we are awful. Brady sustained a concussion against the Raiders in the first quarter, after which we had a bye week to rest and put together a game plan to no avail. Now we are at Scott Pioli and Romeo after a Chargers 2nd game this season saying we need to shake things up and let some players go and bring in free agents too little too late. The trade deadline passed and gone Routt would have fetched a draft pick from a team and DBowe is still on the team and it is apparent to everyone that he does not want to be here causing a quiet stir in the locker room. Pioli now has Romeo stepping down as the Chiefs D Coordinator and Gary Gibbs is the man, which leads me to a preview to next years team.
With the changes made from RAC only being the HC and Gibbs DC we will see a little of what we saw towards the end of the year last year when the Chiefs wet 2 of 3 with RAC. RAC has said that he relied heavily on Gibbs when he was named Interim so now Pioli is expecting to see the same. Routt was let go leaving us thin at DB which talent wise we was already anorexic and the mainproblem is on Offense not Defense. Dabol is still with the team which is another thing Pioli is counting on because in the past his (Dabols) schemes the team usually gets more easier to run. Cleveland and Miami both started understanding it and was producing a lot better towards the end of the year. If this is true then Cassel, Quinn, and Stanzi should be leading us to WINS. According to interviews and a lot of history Pioli and other teams included has shown that WINS cure all. Bottom line and dont hate me cause I am saying this but if we start WINNING to little to late and WINS cure all then does this show what to expect next year? Do we see now a preview of RAC, Dabol, & Gibbs with Pioli running the show. Do the Chiefs go QB 1st round if the Chiefs start WINNING and play themselves out of the top 5 or worse?
