I Just Don't Understand
What happened to my team? I'm only 21, but I come from a family of Chiefs fans, from Super Bowl I to the toilet bowl that's happening this year. I grew up watching DT get sacks in Arrowhead and hearing the TV erupt in cheers. Living an hour away from the stadium made it hard to go to games, but the pride is always there. I made this post after listening to Len Dawson talk about a MNF game when the Bills and Jim Kelly were coming into Arrowhead, claiming that our defense couldn't stop the no huddle. Lenny recalled that their no huddle last exactly one series, because the O linemen couldn't understand a word Kelly was screaming at them over the 12th man. We won that game against the "unstoppable" no huddle offense 33-6. I was born a month before that game into a culture where our stadium was the most feared place to play, and if there's one thing we could count on, it was the fans. After Lenny finished telling the story of the best fans on Earth, he started tearing up. Len Dawson, the hall of fame, all world, franchise QB of the past, and for many the figure head of the franchise now that Hunt Sr. is gone, was breaking up about the state of the franchise on the radio. Dawson was so depressed that he kept saying he was trying to find something positive to talk about.
Which leads me to my point: Where is the hope?
We have to draft a QB, but we're 2 years late to the party there. Maybe one of these guys will be great, maybe they won't.
New head coaching prospects? There aren't any wow prospects. There are a few intriguing options, maybe they will be great, maybe they won't.
New GM. I would love to get the guy from San Fransisco that people here have suggested, but what are the options there? This new guy may be great, but he may not be great.
Bowe will be gone. Charles is getting older. All new QBs next year. New coaching staff completely. Hopefully a new GM. DJ is getting older. Hali is getting older. Flowers is getting older. Albert will be gone. All of the once promising young talent this team had is being wasted or leaving. The one draft pick that Pioli can actually hang his hat on is Justin Houston. One player in 4 drafts that is a for real, legitimate, solid football player that hasn't been injured half the time.
I don't see this getting better any time soon, Len Dawson is depressed about it and so am I.
So my question to all of you: What do we have to look forward to?
