I am not putting this post together with stats or even facts at this point. Hell I am a Chiefs fan and if they don’t play the game of football by playing actual football, why the hell should I do a fan post with the format and structure of a fan post. It just seems right that as a Chiefs fan I put something together the way they would.
OK, with that said, I am just beside myself, a few weeks ago I knew things where bad but today I sit in the realization that things are much worse than I ever could have imagined. It is just not normal for misfortune to befall any one thing in the vast amounts it seems to happen to KC. The turnovers that just do not stop, the horrid QB play, the ghastly play calling, the coaching mismanagement of players and the disgusting individual play on both sides of the ball at just about every position all belong to this season but this is nothing new. Bad OCs goes back a while, mistakes at HC goes back a while, under achieving players go back a while and the mismanagement of this team goes back a while.
I just sit back and look at what has happen and am in disbelief. I really don't think that Peterson had anything but the right intentions when he hired Herm Edwards to rebuild this team. I believe the same thing about Clark Hunt bringing in Pioli, I really do think that the organization had reason to believe Pioli was a good thing and he could rebuild this franchise. I think Pioli was in the right place bringing in Haley, Weiss, Crennel and Cassel. I do honestly believe those where all moves made with the best interest of the franchise in mind. What I cannot believe is how horribly wrong every single one of them has been and how the result of those moves gives us our 2012 Kansas City Chiefs.
The level of bad that this team has reached is not due to simply bad players. From top to bottom the ugly stick has hit every single phase of the franchise. It is just hard to believe that what we are seeing is real; it’s like a dream and a very bad one at that.
This morning a thought occurred to me that is pretty far out there. Mind you that I am in no way a conspiracy person and I am not going to tell you that the Buick in the drive way was really designed by aliens. However, I do think things happen for a reason. I ask you, is it possible that Pioli knew that putting RAC at HC would put this season in a tail spin? Is it possible that Pioli thought RAC would win a few more games than 2011 but still allow KC to draft high enough to get the few pieces he thinks are left? If so, is it possible that Pioli is sitting in bed at night cursing himself for things getting a little too far out of control?
That all sounds a bit out there but when you step back and look at this whole mess it does seem at least plausible. Is any team really this bad? I’m not saying players are playing bad on purpose, but if they are mismanaged you sure could get this same result. RAC is such a timid guy there is no way those that work with him didn’t know that, and Daboll didn’t exactly stick out as the best OC out there. Both are great people personally but have obvious flaws in their ability to lead a team. Now, if you want to see something fail you would put weak links in the chain and allow those to take weight. Is it possible this is what Pioli has done but it blew up far worse than he thought? The only reason I can think of that a GM would hamper a coaching staff in this way is to create a reason to replace the staff and create an environment to lure the right kind of staff in. Maybe that’s what this season was supposed to be but it went way worse than expected.
It is human nature to look somewhere to find a reason but it could also be that the Chiefs are just that bad from top to bottom.
