Jamaal Charles injury: Chiefs RB felt he could've returned

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

But he remained out.

It's already a bad Chiefs season but things looked even worse when Jamaal Charles lay on the ground after being drilled by Chargers linebacker Donald Butler in in a helmet-to-head/neck shot. Chiefs medical personnel helped Charles up and he ran off the field but he did not return to the game.

Charles told reporters, including the KC Star's Adam Teicher, after the game that he felt he could've returned.

Presumably he was told by the coaching and/or medical staff. The game was out of hand by that point anyway.

But what Charles says here doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. Doctors make the decisions on players with concussions and head injuries for a reason. I'm sure many a player who has suffered a concussion thinks he can return (and some have), so what Charles says doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot.

The Chiefs don't play until next Monday night so Charles has a wee and a half to figure it out. We won't have a good read on his status perhaps until next week's round of practices.
