Chiefs aren't 'totally' ruling Matt Cassel out for Chiefs-Bucs in Week 6

Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

But it sounds like it's close.

We won't have a firm grasp of Matt Cassel's status for the Kansas City Chiefs Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until later in the week but for now we can say that Cassel's status is definitely up in the air. A couple of KC Star reporters do not believe he'll play and Romeo Crennel on Monday didn't act as if it were a given that Cassel would be available against the Bucs.

"No, not totally," Crennel said when asked if they were ruling Cassel out for Week 6. "Just from what I've seen about concussions, they can be difficult. A lot of times, the individual is the thing. Some individuals recover faster than others. With the emphasis onconcussions in the league, they're making sure that we do due diligence on the player's health in making sure he's not rushed back. We'll evaluate it and see."

Cassel will need to be cleared by doctors to play. This isn't a "toughness" thing like the appendectomy. Hopefully, the Chiefs take this decision out of Cassel's hands.

That said, even if Cassel were healthy, it's still a legitimate question as to who would start this game.
