Using play-by-play data from ESPN's website (there were missing games, missing plays, etc) for 2002-2011, punt data was tabulated by yard-line.
Noting that the closer to the goal-line, punters sacrificed distance for other factors, punts more than 60 yards from the goal-line were tabulated to see if punting has changed over the past ten years.
Clearly, punters have 'improved' over the past ten years, whether that is by training or other means.
