More denials on Chiefs-Scott Pioli contract extension report

Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

It looks like it's not true.

On Sunday CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that GM Scott Pioli had been offered a two-year contract extension from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since then, two notable reporters say he is wrong. The KC Star's Adam Teicher reports via a source on Sunday afternoon that the Chiefs did not have contract discussions with Pioli.

Now Peter King of SI.com reported on NBC's Football Night In America that the Chiefs did not offer Pioli an extension.

So, yeah. It looks like something is going on. La Canfora didn't just make his report up. He heard it from someone and it was probably credible. Likewise, Teicher and King aren't making their reports up. Their sources are likely credible as well.

I tend to follow the local source in situations like these. I'm thinking there never was an extension offer.
