Sunday's report by CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora that GM Scott Pioli had been offered a contract extension made sense because last week rumors spread throughout Kansas City of a contract extension.

The KC Star has left the story alone -- until now. Adam Teicher reports the Chiefs did NOT offer Pioli an extension.

Here is the story, which includes a no-comment quote from Clark Hunt. The Chiefs said late last week, before the La Canfora report, that they wouldn't comment either way.

The timing of this all couldn't have been worse. The Chiefs were blown out by the Bucs shortly after the initial report from La Canfora hit the airwaves. But it appears it may not even be true.
