BCS National Championship: LSU Vs. Alabama

Photo

Tonight's the night in college football. The BCS National Championship. We have the LSU Tigers the Alabama Crimson Tide -- again -- playing tonight at 7:30 p.m. (Arrowhead Time).

Yeah, we've seen this game before but I'm still looking forward to it.

Check out SBNation.com for a bunch of highlight videos and what not as they come out.

So, two questions: Who ya got tonight? And how many future Chiefs are on the field?

LSU and Bama killed Arkansas….Arkansas dominated KSU, OSU had trouble with KSU…that’s the difference between the SEC and Big 12.

by AZDiamond75 on Jan 9, 2012 8:00 PM CST up reply actions

Think of waking up tomorrow and hearing that ___________________ is the national champions

To get in that blank, Alabama only had to win once at a neutral site.
For LSU, they will have had to win twice, once at a neutral site and once on the road.
Having this game makes it completely unfair for LSU. Does bama have a legitimate point as no 2 in the nation? Sure, but they already got beat by this team.

I'd tell them it's because we lost the championship game, that we weren't better when it mattered most(I'd probably apologize too)

What did Belicheck tell his team after they lost the SB to a Giants team they had already beaten earlier in the season?

This is why I want a playoff setup in College, I don’t doubt the result would be the same Anyways then Tigers fans could stop complaining.

Oregon had their chance, they were favored, and they lost.

OK State lost to Iowa State.

You are joking right?

Ok state barely beat KSU who was handled by Arkansas who got killed by Bama and LSU. Both these teams averaged over 30 points per game. The only reason they can’t score is because they are the 2 best defenses in college. Remember everybody said Oregon would run all over Auburn last year…they didn’t. They also didn’t on LSU this year, but did against every other team. The BCS didn’t make sure….Bama is in it because of the polls which the media and coaches voted for Bama….if it was up to the BCS computers, OK state would have got in.

It was KState

I like the Cats almost as much as my Sooners, but they were never the best matchup for Arkansas. Their game plan seemed a bit off and when got behind the chains from throwing on 1st and 2nd, they were kind of hosed.

I had this game going one of two ways, 1) Ends like the OU/KSU game or 2)Ends like the OSU/KSU game. I never had KSU winning it. Don’t act like it’s a huge surprise and some kind of revelation as to why the SEC is “better” than the B12.

Look at the points Alabama and LSU put on every team they played, except each other.

Alabama never scored below 24, LSU never scored below 35. Until they played each others’ defenses.

I’m definitely not saying that every SEC team can beat every non-SEC team. I’m not even saying the SEC is the better top-to-bottom conference. But so far, nobody has proven otherwise.

Not a purist? Why, because I can't stand two defenses beating the shit out of offenses?

I want give and take, back and forth. That doesn’t mean offensive shootouts, that means two teams who make adjustments, change things up, take advantage of a weakness, adjust to hide their weakness and play to a strength. I am perfectly happy with a 12-9 game if it is done right.

This, is two defenses, that’s it. The offenses are horrible. There is no chess match, it’s two boxers standing there with their hands up, its two MMA fighters just sitting in guard.

Purists, whatever. If you think that then you don’t know football. Football has 3 sides to it, offense, defense, and special teams. When it’s only defense then it sucks.

It’s believed Michael Philbin, 21, fell through the ice early Sunday. His body was found in roughly 15 feet of water, 30 yards from shore, at around 4PM ET Monday. Michael’s friends in Oshkosh filed a missing person’s report Sunday night after he was nowhere to be found throughout the day. Joe Philbin, Green Bay’s fifth-year offensive coordinator, is currently away from the team.

i dont know who should be

but this system is terrible. look at the overall resumes if you want. Alabama didn’t win their conference, beat LSU once. LSU won the SEC, beat the Pac 12 and Big East champion, beat Alabama once.

by masonsixer on Jan 9, 2012 10:20 PM CST up reply actions

Im not arguing against that.

All im saying is Bama clearly deserves the championship this year and I dont doubt they would have won a playoff bracket either. And tell me how you would set up the bracket… If you have a 16 team bracket, what do you do with the other 150 teams?

by masonsixer on Jan 9, 2012 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

how does bama clearly deserve it?

LSU won the SEC, beat the Rose, Orange and Cotton Bowl winners, and Alabama. Bama beat the SEC champion and the Cotton Bowl winner.

For a playoff, conference champions from the current BCS conferences and some at large teams. If other divisions of college football can figure it out, I’m sure the top one could.

You can beat a team twice in the regular season, have a better record, and then lose to the same team in the playoffs & go home. That’s just how it is.

Thats not the point im trying to make though.

What im saying is we’re talking about about 100 teams knowing that they have nothing to play for before their season even starts because they know they wont make it in the top 16. Then we’re talking about about 40 teams that are in the top 40% in the nation but dont get to have any type of ppost season. In the NFL 12 of 32(about 38%) get to have an offseason

by masonsixer on Jan 9, 2012 10:45 PM CST up reply actions

Right now, there are maybe 8-10 teams that have a realistic shot at a national championship every year.

A playoff could increase that to 16.

Every RB needs the blocking up front, I don’t care who you are if you’re consistently getting hit by DL in the backfield and your OL is consistently getting pushed back you’re not going anywhere.

Normal RBs don’t have anywhere near the same skill set, normal RBs wouldn’t have had the speed or the patience or the vision to get that TD.
