Derrick Johnson Named First Team All-Pro
The Associated Press released their 2011 All-Pro team. Derrick Johnson was named to the first team. The first team selected 5 LBs, 3 of them inside linebackers because of a tie between Johnson and SF inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who both received 16 votes each. The other first team ILB was Patrick Willis.
What a great honor for DJ, he deserved it after being an animal the entire season.
Also, Tamba Hali was named to the second team All-Pro team. Tough for him to make the first team considering the years Terrell Suggs and DeMarcus Ware had.

Congrats to you DJ!
Step it up Tamba!!!
Do we go fetal and beg for mercy? Or do we pick up that broken piece of pipe laying on the ground and come up swinging? I choose pipe.
Sober (again) since January 10th, 2011.
He got it for both spots
He placed third in DE’s overall and made it as a DT. Wonder how many guys have made it twice.
Pay the man, play the man.
Oh wait.

Defensively we have 4 All-Pro caliber players next year in my opinion. Tamba, DJ, Flowers and Berry
Offensively we have Bowe and Charles. Can’t wait for the 2012 season.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Remember when...
AP was saying Chiefs wouldn’t get any postseason awards because they’re a small market, losing team, everybody hates them, etc.?
That wasn’t awesome.
Kansas City Chiefs: Undefeated in 2012, baby!
This is where I do like the system.
Fan votes only count for so much. Peer, coach, and press voting comes in to play which helps out a guy like DJ who really did play at another level.
Still doesn’t always work well for some guys who play great but don’t have the name, but it’s better than just a fan vote.

Fan vote is only 1/3 of Pro Bowl voting.
Probably still too much, but I’m just sayin’.

if fans voted...
lebron james or kobe would be in every goddamn pro bowl game…even though they play basketball
that would be funny if it wasn't so true

Trivia (no peeking)
Who was the last Chiefs all pro player? I have no idea… I’ll say Jared Allen.
Again, no researching this. I think it’s been a while.
Matt Cassel?

Charles. Last year.
Where do I pick up my prize?
My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.
Whoa whoa whoa
My comment is CLEARLY above his. Where is my beer glove??
I'll settle for just the beer.

I'd like to think Berry was on it.
But I don’t believe he was.

Thought about him
figured there was too much competition considering both conferences.
Wow, 9 second team safeties and Berry wasn’t included? HTF did that happen???
Eric didn't get off to a great start last year, remember.
He made some mistakes. Luckily for us…he learned from them.

But there are 9 of them!
I could understand your point if it was 3 or 4, but geez.
OK, here's the list of first teamers from the oughts...
Tony Gonzalez 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008
Priest Holmes 2001, 2002, 2003
Dante Hall 2003
Willie Roaf 2004
Brian Waters 2004, 2005
LJ (2.7) 2006
Jared Allen 2007
Jamaal Charles 2010
Derrick Johnson 2011
He allowed the most TDs last year per multiple sources
Cant make the All-pro team with that on your resume
Me and Matt Cassel just - you up, dog!

Priest Holmes
Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

True, but...
Suggs didn’t make either team last year. Last year’s first teamers were Mathews, Harrison, Ware and Wake.
twitter.com/ZLehnhart
Well according to the list
Wake made 1st team and 2nd team. I think Suggs’ name is supposed to be one of those.
Tough competition at DE. And...he plays for the Chiefs.

Shame and a wrong for Tambahawk not to make it last year. The Unstoppable Force had most QB pressures in the NFL + a zillion sacks.

Interesting history
Interesting to see that only twice in the last 20 years have we had no All-Pros, and also the relative lack of recognition during the 1990’s, which many of us pine for as the “good ol’ relatively recent days”.
Obviously individual accomplishments don’t equal success, but they do walk in the same park.

'95
DT: 2 FF 8 Sacks 48 solo tackles (5 assists)
Down year .. didn’t put the effort into researching who made All-Pro that year to compare.
by DuctTapeMessiah on Jan 6, 2012 6:23 PM CST up reply actions
But then again its Derrick Thomas ya' know
I mean like Patrick Willis this year was kinda pedestrian stats (74 solo, 1 INT, 4 FF) and yet he’s in the Pro Bowl and his counterpart Bowman got snubbed just BECOZ Willis was more popular.

so he should have been selected on name recognition alone?
over Greg LLoyd (Pitt) who was 88 Tackles, 6.5 Sacks, 3 INT
to Derrick Thomas 48, 8, 0
40 fewer tackles alone … no, he didn’t deserve it that year, he was fortunate to make it as 2nd in conference

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
heck yeah, thats how urlacher got in a few years back when he missed most of the season
and remember Polamalu (2009) was also in one year where he liked missed all but 5 games.
It’s how popular you are and what you mean to your team. That’s how some players get voted to consecutive pro bowls despite a down year on stats.

Troy P was not All-Pro in 2009.
Didn’t even make the Pro Bowl that year. Remember that it’s for the previous year. So where you read 2009 Pro Bowl, they probably meant for the 2008 season.
All Pro: 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2011.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I still get this sense that Tamba would be higher-rated if he had stronger hands.
He misses a lot of tackles and doesn’t slow people down unless he’s able to get a body on ’em, and even then he seems to slide off. I wanna send him my hand grips and have him apply his discipline to getting those Pop-eye forearms.
would of ≠ would've
Yeah, but he kind of makes up for that with his FF numbers.
I think it’s the fact he can’t play the run at all. Ware and Suggs both dominate in both aspects (and Suggs can play the pass too).
He just needs a more complete game if he wants to hit that next level.
"You can't be fat and fast too; so lift, run, diet, and work." ~ Hank Stram
Maybe it's just me
But the Pro Bowl rosters should be decide by All-Pro’s. Forget dividing the teams up by conferences. I would much rather watch the 1st team All-Pro offense play against the 1st team All-Pro defense in the first half. Then in the 2nd half, switch it up. 2nd team All-Pro offense against the 2nd team All-Pro defense.
If you think Rodgers has a ton of weapons now, imagine if he was playing with MJD, Megatron, Wes Welker, and The Gronk. That’s the offense I’d like to watch play. Especially if they’re trying to outmatch a secondary of Revis/Woodson/Polamalu/Weddle. If the players actually showed up and played that game like it meant something, I’d pay to watch that.
I posted before I thought
1st team Offense + 2nd team Defense
vs.
2nd team Offense + 1st team Defense
That would make actual sense in my thought process.
Actually, I think you hit the nail on the head with something else you wrote:
“If the players actually showed up and played that game like it meant something,”
That’s the real issue. You get a handful of guys excited to be there (1st timers), but everyone else just wants the extra check and NOBODY wants to risk getting hurt.
"You can't be fat and fast too; so lift, run, diet, and work." ~ Hank Stram
I wasn't expecting him to make it.
Not because he didn’t deserve it, but because he wasn’t on the Pats/Packers/Jets/Ravens/Steelers/Cowboys.
