NFL Playoffs Schedule: Who's Winning On Wild Card Weekend?

The 2012 NFL playoffs are here and sadly the Kansas City Chiefs are not included in that group. But I've gotten over it (not really) and I'm ready to enjoy some playoff football this weekend.

Here's a look at the schedule for this weekend's games and which ways I'm leaning in my picks.

Star-divide

Saturday, January 7

Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans, 4:30 p.m., NBC: Leaning toward taking the Bengals with the upset pick. The Texans and T.J. Yates are a little unreliable and have lost three in a row. I like the Bengals.

Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints, 8 p.m., NBC: I'd be tempted to take the Lions if the game weren't in the dome. The Saints are unstoppable there.

Sunday, January 8

Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants, 1 p.m., FOX: The Giants could seriously make a Super Bowl run if everything fell into place just right. That defensive line can get to the quarterback on their own, which is what you need to beat some of these top tier offenses.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos, 4:30 p.m., CBS: Gotta roll with the Steelers, though I don't think this will be the blowout everyone is predicting. I can see the Steelers winning in a 14-10 game.

I second that

I like the Falcons over the Giants for 2 reasons

1. I picked them in the SB pool at the beginning of the year since they were the only decent team left.
2. I think the Falcons let Turner run the ball to take advantage of the Giants smaller dline and to take the pressure off of Ryan.

I agree with the rest of your picks though.

Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.

yep, that's my forecast too

although if Dalton doesn’t play then I’d change that game to the Texans.

I'll third that

Yep...

I think the Saints-Lions games will be the most fun to watch…although watching the Steelers play “Kill the Carrier” with Tim Tebow could be entertaining, too….

Good one!
watching the Steelers play "Kill the Carrier" with Tim Tebow could be entertaining, too

I'm in total agreement. Same picks.

2012 Chiefs Draft Picks by Falcon58: G DeCastro 1st round, NT Ta'amu 2nd round or OT Adcock 2nd/3rd round, TE Egnew 3rd round, RB Ganaway 5th/6th, QB Case Keenum 5th/6th. Resign: Carr, McClain, Bailey, Bowe, Orton (in that order). Trade Dorsey for picks, promote Gordon to DT/DE.

by Falcon58 on Jan 6, 2012 2:24 PM CST up reply actions

Didn't the Bungles just get beat at home by the Texans?

And that Texans team was beat up even more than now.

I’m going Texans, Saints (barely), Falcons (who I think just have too many weapons), and Steelers.

by misterbrain on Jan 6, 2012 1:39 PM CST reply actions

Tony Gonzalez on the Falcons?

Giants will win based on that alone. It would be nice for him to get the win however.

You mean the Steelers will lose.

Denver doesn’t win games. They rely on the other team to beat themselves.

Even Skip Bayless is picking the Steelers.

As long as the Donkeys lose...I'm good.

Not that I like the Steelers very much, either.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

Have to give their organizations credit, though...

For building teams that are in the playoffs and / or the Super Bowl nearly every year.

And I’ll keep dreaming of the Chiefs one day being a team like that.

I'm pulling for

the Ravens…only one SB to their credit, right? Maybe the Bungles, though I don’t give them much chance to beat anyone but the Texans, with Schaub out. Anybody but the Donks,Steelers, or Pats…Would like to see the Saints get another ring.

Food for thought on these playoffs with the Chiefs in mind...............

I was just thinking, if Detroit and Cincinnati happen to win their playoff games this weekend, Kansas City then becomes the team with the longest playoff win drought, other than Houston, who is looking for their first playoff win as the Texans. Yikes!

The five teams with the longest drought for a win in the playoffs (other than Houston):

Team Last season they won a playoff game
Cincinnati 1990
Detroit 1991
Kansas City 1993
Cleveland 1994
Buffalo 1995

(Note: The Houston Texans franchise began in 2002; they have never won a playoff game)

GAMES THIS WEEKEND
Cincinnati vs. Houston – someone will win, so one of these teams automatically moves off this dubious list. Plus, ironically, if Houston wins, this is indirectly the last team we beat in the playoffs!
Detroit vs. New Orleans – I guess it’s possible for Detroit to win, although not likely.

Well then.... I say GO CINCINNATI AND DETROIT!

Maybe we can shame the ownership into winning a playoff game. Georgia’s trying to shame fat kids into losing weight.

Giants / Saints / Bengals / Steelers

Giants (HOT team) over ATL because NYG has been peaking the last 2 games

Saints over DET because Schwatz is not match for Sean Payton (chess master)

Steelers over DEN because I’m a Chiefs fan and its only natural Steelers win

Bengals over HOU because Wade Phillips have lost focus starting claiming that teams show look at him for open Head Coaches position (if HOU were gonna win its gotta come from Offense but since all they got is banged up Arian Foster, easy pick)

Todd Haley - Crennel just prove to the world that you're a f***ing Joke! Matt Cassel - Orton showed with 3 weeks of practice you can beat the world champions. #7 your legacy is...you don't have one, you're a backup all along. Should never have been a starter in the NFL.

Tebow Time is over

I think Falcons will barely beat the Giants in a shootout.
Texans should be able to squeak by the Bengals.
It should be a Brees blowing past the Lions.

Check out my analysis of Steelers – Broncos here:

When in doubt pull for the team from the funkier city

Cinci – funkiest city of the funkiest state in the union (sorry Cleveland)
Atlanta – New York had lots of quality stuff heat but Atlanta brings the heat more frequently
Detroit – don’t need to say much here, only Cleveland and Cinci brought it harder than Detroit
Pittsburgh – Lot of hot disco and way more funk than lame ass Denver

by chiefsfan62 on Jan 6, 2012 8:54 PM CST via mobile reply actions

My picks are probably the same as most...

Cinci beats the Texans. Texans have no momentum and are just too beat up.
Atlanta beats the Giants in a thriller. This is probably the most intriguing game to watch.
The Saints beats Detroit handily. Suh will probably make a fool of himself and get three Personal Foul penalties.
Blitzburgh blows-out the Donkeys. We found the way to keep Tebow ineffective last week. Polamalu and co. will keep the heat on, score some defensive TD’s, and give their beat-up offense time to add to the shellacking.

Proud Bronco and Raider Hater since 1980.
