no 304 OLB dropped into coverage more than Justin Houston (42.6%) followed by James Harrison (40.4%). Incredible rush numbers from Harrison
other top 3-4 OLBs like Hali (88.7%), Ware (85%) and Wake (92.8%) rush passer a lot more

love the d the chiefs are building, but houston just makes it almost insane
i cannot wait til this is a top 5-10 d next year, houston is a big reason for it.
i thought we had a steal in rd 3 like most, but i didnt think he would be producing year one
Pay Brandon Carr/Romeo
Team Colquitt
He got close to the qb everytime he was sent
Next year he’ll be sent constantly with berry back.
Berry=te
Dj=rb
Houston and Hali=qb

Sad weed is no fun
2012 Goal: Be invited to Lady Buttercup's spring ball.
2012 Resolution: To establish a better cravat collection than anyone else on AP.
2012 Wish: Chiefs Super Bowl
Good to have confirmation for what my eyes were telling me.
Houston was one of the top……three, I think, outside speed rushers in the draft. We spent the season teaching him how to cover. Hope it pays off.

Anyone else find if ironic
yet encouraging that our two most productive rookies from this class were both third round picks? Houston played very good for a rook and I think Bailey will make either Jackson or Dorsey expendable in the near future.
Your eyes tell you more than any statistics can.
3rd rounder in Asamoah is also playing very well
Now about Magee…

Probably because
Hali is absolutely brutal dropping back.

This is the problem I have with our 3-4
If it’s the DE job to eat up blocks for the LB and Houston is in coverage a lot, we only have 1 pass rusher getting to the QB. Were also being predictable were the rush is coming from.
My concern is, we need to work on the pass rush on defense. I like a defense that can rush 4 and get pressure on the QB. My question is, I like Hali, who is the bookend to go with Hali?
Someone tell Kalo to come break the defensive scheme down to vegas here.. I don't feel like typing that much

If both OLBs go at once, that's a blitz, and it leaves a hole in coverage.
Rush four is standard. But I agree we should make it a little less predictable whether that rush is coming from Hali or Houston or somebody else.

A more complete SILB would help a lot
We can afford to rush Hali most of the time because DJ lines up next to him and does well covering about half the field (at LB depth). Belcher struggles when he drops, making it harder to rush Houston and still get solid coverage. A well-rounded SILB would give us four LBs that could rush or drop back into coverage and open up more options for blitz packages. It will be interesting to see which position the coaches think needs the bigger upgrade, NT or SILB, since a good prospect should be available at either with our 2nd round pick but not likely with our 3rd. Or, the coaches may think Siler is that upgrade at SILB (wouldn’t that be nice) and make the decision easier.
Berry could help a lot in coverage, too.

With berry coming back from an ACL tear
it would be comforting to know we brought in some additional help in that department. Which creates a new problem: if Siler was supposed to help in that area and tore his Achilles tendon, will he still be a good fit at SILB next year. I’m not sure I want one guy who may be less than 100% covering deep for another guy who may be less than 100%.
We had this discussion last year about Sheffield.
People wanted to disregard his presence completely and start over at OLB depth because he had an injury that he “might not come back from.” Even though reports were that he was moving around fine the same night he got hurt. There’s always some cause for concern, but I think the root of this fallacy is the human tendency of “out of sight, out of mind.”
Lots of players have had ACL and achilles injuries. Until I see otherwise, I’m going to assume that their non-retirement means that they will recover. Actually, I think I heard that Siler just got a new contract extension.

Maybe i'm misunderstanding
But I think the rookie who got 5.5 sacks while spending most of his time in coverage is the bookend to Hali. Forget how impressive James Harrison was, Houston was a rookie and was only 3.5 sacks short of the vet.

Harrison only played 11 games so....
that’s pretty impressive, still Houston is good.
