We've got another cold one here in DC this evening. And it's not being helped by the fact that the vent in our apartment is covered because our landlord is renovating our kitchen. Don't get me wrong. This is a good thing, getting a new kitchen.
It's just having the fridge in the living room that's throwing me off a bit.
But who am I kidding? This is actually pretty cool. This evening, I made a sandwich and refilled my glass of water all from the seat next to my couch.
That's what I'm up to tonight. What are you doing?

If it wasn't a nice Stainless Steel fridge, I'd say you should drill some taps in the side of that thing and keep it there.
But that’s because the 15 feet from my couch to my kegerator is occasionally 15 feet too many. =)

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Trying to think of stuff to put on my resume.
I haven’t done anything noteworthy since graduating from high school other than going to college. I don’t think my experience of working at McDonalds will count for much.
As for the fridge, I have a mini fridge in my room in my apartment at school, at I have decided it will be in every bedroom I have from now until I die in my 30’s from being a fatass caused by having a fridge in your bedroom.

well depends on the employer
some like 1 page, some more
I just applied for army jag..10 page of pure awesomeness
also put in community service, groups, activities, etc. normally good discussion starters
For me, most of the noteworthy stuff happened in high school.
I’m hoping people still find it impressive.
How the hell did you get a 10 page resume? I’m struggling with one.
by wustl_chiefs_fan on Jan 4, 2012 9:28 PM CST up reply actions
I wrote descriptions
for example
I was a prosecutor in law school so I said
—argued 4th amendment
5th amendment
8th amendment
14th amendment
participated in trials
etc
in my opinion Do not mention high school unless it’s related
i.e. army=high school football
but always mention community service. People love that stuff
I know that when our company gets a 4-5 page resume, it's bothersome.
Most of the time, it’s expounding on the same things over and over, rather than being focused on the aspects of each that apply to the job posted.
Now, the Army’s selection process is much different than ours, I’m sure, but short, sweet, and specific typically gets the job done, in my experience.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
yea for companies
I have 1 cover page
1 page of resume
and 1 page of 3+ references
What's your opinion on high school stuff?
Looking back, I did some really impressive things in high school like winning multiple math contests and going to Missouri Scholars Academy (which they said accepts only the top 1/2 of the top 1%), but it’s not directly related, and it was a while ago. But since I’m going to have to learn a bit, I feel that it shows that I’m smart enough to learn the necessary things quickly and be able to understand it enough to be effective.
by wustl_chiefs_fan on Jan 4, 2012 9:35 PM CST up reply actions
I normally write such thing under miscellaneous
nothing wrong with boasting
You're close enough to where that's semi-pertinent.
But don’t focus on it too much. In a couple more years, it doesn’t come off so hot.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
Applying for something within your major?
Most will be just fine with the college courses if you’re staying within the same realm. Other than that, Chiefshero is right: service, activities, groups, etc.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
That's the problem.
My major is Physics, trying to get a job in computer science. It’s not too far apart, but it still might be far enough away that I’m thinking about teaching myself some more stuff as soon as I graduate.
by wustl_chiefs_fan on Jan 4, 2012 9:26 PM CST up reply actions
What specifically in Comp Sci?
Specific programming languages that you don’t know? Or more networking protocol?
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
The only programming languages I know are stuff like Matlab.
I’m not too familiar with Java or C or others that seem to be used when actually programming things. It shouldn’t be too tough to learn them, it’s just a matter of taking the time to do it.
by wustl_chiefs_fan on Jan 4, 2012 9:30 PM CST up reply actions
Also it would be good to list things you have programmed or work accomplished.
Your resume should list relevant education, experience, but really focus on your cover letter, that is how you sell yourself.
The views expressed by craig in calgary do not necessarily represent the views of all Canadians.
also write experienced in microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, etc
not sure why but people are always impressed with such thing
also 2nd languages are always a good thing
If it's a programming job, that's usually pretty laughable, if I'm honest.
We’ve got something on the market right now that is looking for some pretty heavy knowledge on various programming languages and the ability to create low level drivers. We’ve had people submit the Office Suite as their computer knowledge (to be fair, that’s all they put in that section), and their resumes are thrown out.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
I've heard that a large proportion of people who apply to programming jobs can't actually program.
Apparently some people with Masters in computer science have no actual programming ability. They said that if you know recursion and iteration you’re better than most applicants, which I couldn’t believe.

probably because college is no longer "college"
like how law school teaches you all this crap but when it’s time to do it for real…I’m like WTF!!!!!!
And that might be the case in some spots.
We’re looking for someone to walk in and work, not learn. Nobody is going to know EXACTLY what we’re doing (we’re a circuit level design company, so our stuff is fairly proprietary), but at the same time, we won’t have time to lay the foundation.
However, we’re not looking for someone straight out of college, so that changes things.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
I've considered interning.
Since I graduated from college a year early, I feel that I have a year to do stuff other than working without feeling too guilty about living with my parents.
by wustl_chiefs_fan on Jan 4, 2012 9:46 PM CST up reply actions
i've been living with my parents since I was born
beats paying 20k a year on housing
Not necessarily true.
Lots of internships pay in engineering and comp sci fields. They’ll pay a little bit to show you the ropes, then bump you up when you’re comfortable.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
I was asking more about what the comp sci job was looking for.
But I assume it’s Java/C. Those aren’t difficult to learn. I didn’t know if it was GTK or DirectFB, which is a little different.
Work in those pertinent languages. Challenge yourself, and package the pertinent applications for them so their programmers can see habits, execution, and the like. You can find out a lot by looking at someone’s code and how they approach a situation.

going to law school is like learning how to ride a bike
you have to learn differently than you did in undergrad
you need to live, breathe, and eat law. Have fun reading instead of spending time with your family and friends
you should spend 80+ hours a week studying/attending classes
have fun waking up at 8 am on saturday/sunday to make outlines
I went into it because I thought it would be easy…I can’t leave because of the 80k debt
unreal, sorry to hear ... I still have a lot myself (not that much, but lots) from Educ degree(s)
can’t leave because of the 80k debt
worse is I can’t land a contract job these days (in part) because of the economy, so I substitute teach :-/

I love living out in the country
At times it can be a bit of a drive to get places, but it’s just so nice and quiet.
One nice thing about living/working in St. Joe, MO,
there’s no commute longer than 15 minutes.

Called out an entire family of tourists in a parking lot today
a snot nosed teen was standing outside of his car in a parking space and got mad that I parked in the parking space he was standing in, said something stupid and probably didn’t think I’d do anything about it. Needless to say the guy cowered and probably won’t be doing that any time soon.
How stupid is that though? You’re standing in a place designated to cars and you get mad when someone wants to park there? It’s like walking in to a burger shop and being mad they sell burgers there. Fuck new school man

What exactly did you do?
didn’t think I’d do anything about it

Anyone know
What Kendrick Lewis’s surgery was today? It’s all over his twitter, just not a what. Knee i assume, he was hurt a bit. Maybe scope and clean?
Shoulder I think.
Someone put up a FahShot a little while ago, said he hurt it in the second half the other day or something.
Kansas City Chiefs: Undefeated in 2012, baby!
I think Lewis is a lot like Flowers
He’s not coming out of the game unless he absolutely has to.
Hrm.
Why can’t I remember that shot? He was flying everywhere Sunday, I can’t single any out other than the fumble.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
Only thing I remember
is Lewis jumping on Tebow’s back to cause the fumble.

That's what I meant.
Maybe it wasn’t that big of a hit, though.

Probably got touched by Jacob's angel after that.

Did Tebow fall on him when they went out of bounds?
Might have been hurt then. Kendrick’s not exactly a big guy.
3rd and 1...guess we'll run the dime. Eesh.
Could have been when he dove for that terrible Tebow throw too.
Kansas City Chiefs: Undefeated in 2012, baby!
Which one?
Care to narrow that one down kind sir?

Ha!
Somehow, I knew I’d get that reaction.
It was the one that inspired me to comment that his throws are so inaccurate, they couldn’t even be intercepted. If it was just poorly thrown, it would have been an easy pick. But it was so terribly thrown, even Lewis couldn’t get to it.

Oh
The Tebow Special. Methinks I remember that

Shame it wasn’t closer to a 53-50 split, would’ve been a more interesting game.
