Great!!
He can sit their best players on the bench and once the Rapist gets injured on comes Tyler Palko! Hey we play the Steelers next year. Good luck Mike Tomlin, Haley doesn’t function well without adult supervision.
Carpe Diem
Fortunately for Steelers fans.
He won’t be in control of the roster.

But Palko is a Pitt native
In Haleys eyes that qualifies him for 2nd string qb, Haley will refuse to shav and or bathe until Tomlin relents.

Did you not see Kyle Orton and Ricky Stanzi?
Don’t give me the Chicago game BS. Haley playing Palko for a whole quarter with a healthy Orton showed what a stooge he was.

The Jets game. The Steelers game.
The fact that Palko didn’t exit after turning the ball over on three consecutive plays was questionable. The fact that he came out for the 2nd half of the Jets game was a joke.
Hell, Palmer played against us on a week’s notice. There were times where there was absolutely nothing to lose by putting in Stanzi and they still stuck with Palko.

As soon as Orton signed, before he even knew the playbook
he gave us a better chance to win than Palko. He ought to have started that next Sunday

The Cushion Is Over For Pioli, Though
Now that Haley’s gone and he’s hired his new head coach, he’ll be the one taking most of the heat if the Chiefs don’t perform.
Nah.
He’s not taking enough really. The guy didn’t have to continue to push Tyler Palko down our throats.
Thank you

By age alone he at least had the potential to be an upgrade. If not, it’s not like the Chiefs offense could have been much worse.
And therefore
why change? Somebody was looking at both of’em in practice.

I hope he gets the job
It would be interesting to see how he does as OC only again. Conversely, it will be interesting to see the Chiefs offence to see how it operates if Cassel is still starting QB with someone other than Haley calling plays.

You mean 2009?
Yeah, playcalling isn’t the issue, it’s the right arm that is the issue.

I think it's both
When Cassel had his “Pro Bowl” year Weiss called plays to help Cassel out
Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.
Hammerfisting my own balls since 2006
It's both
Cassel has issues but Haley made some terrible play calls, player choices, and let his ego get to big. 3rd and 20, draw play. 4th and 19, draw play.
Haley can call plays if you give him a HOF QB like Warner. Not sure if Rapelisberger is that kind of QB so who knows.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
I here this argument all the time, "Why call a draw play on 3rd and 20? Terrible playcalling."
If it’s 3rd and 20, it’s always going to be very VERY low percentage. There aren’t many plays that are drawn up for that and the defense knows exactly what’s coming at them.
Most coaches in that situation run a draw. Small chance of a big gain, but much much safer than chucking the ball 30 yards down field when the whole defense is playing the deep ball.
That’s playing it a little conservative, but it’s not terrible playcalling. Now the playcalling that gets us to that position in the first place is a whole other matter.
Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

Draw play
works great when you do it with a rb with SPEED, Haley doing it with Thomas Jones and Larry Johnson showed how retarded Haley was.
Carpe Diem
larry johnson played under haley?
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.
by Chiefs_swagger on Jan 31, 2012 5:55 PM CST up reply actions
Problem is a draw play can work, he just called it every single time.
When it’s 3rd and long and the defense is crowding the line of scrimmage, I think we’ve run to many draw plays.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
Cassel sans Haley
Won’t make him Tom Brady but clearly he played better for Weis and Mc_Aniels. Haley was shear toxic for Cassels career.
I think another huge improvement will be no Thomas Jones, hwo amny times did we lead off drives with him (or 1st down in general) and face 2nd and 8 or longer? Ridicolous that we kept him around, it was like a new and improved LJ/2.7, both sucked.
Carpe Diem
I've thought of this also..
I wonder if without having Haley if playing QB there will be less stress on having to perform or get bitched out by Haley. I watched the Chiefs-Chargers Monday night game from this past year and Cassel made some great throws and he’s done it in plenty of other games too. The main question has and always will be consistency but I honestly think getting rid of Haley wasn’t a bad move.

less stress? There's reason #158 why Cassel shouldn't be a starting QB in the NFL

It's easy to criticize.
But imagine working a job where if you didn’t do it absolutely perfect, you got your a** chewed everytime. Is it really a surprise that nobody wanted to work with Haley?
Look at Crennel, polar opposite of Haley and he got more out of the defense than Haley ever did with the offense. He wasn’t a good play caller and his hot head while at first appeared to be a show of passion only turned out to be a show of stupidity and immaturity.

Nothing.
Which is probably why they play so well. It’s really easy to look like an “offensive guru” when you’ve got a Hall of Fame QB and WR’s.
As far as the offense goes, obviously any work with Palko was a complete failure. Charles was good before he got here. Same goes for Bowe. Of course the easy thing is to sit here and blame Cassel for everything that’s wrong with the franchise because he makes $60M so it all must be his fault.
We can sit here and trash Cassel all we want but we all watched Palko play and we could do a lot worse than Cassel at this point.

And He Was Still Better Than Larry Johnson
Both as a rookie and as a second year player. Guess who Haley chose to give carries to.
by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 5:20 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
Yeah, If I remember correctly...
Charles was even inactive for multiple games at the beginning of the season. It took LJ’s 27th mistake finally getting him cut for him to practically be forced to use him.
by DeuceDouglas on Jan 31, 2012 5:23 PM CST up reply actions
Had Larry Johnson not called out his coach in a national forum, we’d probably be arguing over whether Jamaal Charles is a legit NFL player…because Haley would probably have buried Charles as a 3rd down back behind Jones and probably Battle. Assuming he didn’t get Pioli to trade him away.
Haley was an idiot.
Not Really
Jamaal Charles was a lot more productive as a player than Thomas Jones in 2010. A LOT more productive. Who got most of the carries? Larry Johnson was averaging 2.7 yards a carry in 2009 and Charles was firmly mired to the bench until the Twitter remarks. I strongly believe that Haley had a grudge against Charles.
AMEN!!!
Cowboys game 2009
LJ 21 carries 37 yards including delayed draw in OT at midfield on 3rd and 5
Charles 3 carries 9 yds
What a dufus Haley was.
Carpe Diem
That game was the game I completely lost it for LJ
All faith was already pretty much lost but that game was atrocious. It was literally hard to watch.

HARD TO WATCH
I drove 500 miles from Dallas and paid $$$ for tickets to a half empty stadium, the othe half filled with Cowboys fns including my native Texan wife. Wanted Haley fired every day since then.
Carpe Diem
Well the first game in 2009
Jamaal ran for 8 yards on 4 carries, so it didn’t look like anyone could run the ball.
The Larry Johnson was gone by the bye week. Sure the move could have been made a little sooner, but even in Jamaal’s first start he didn’t get much going.
Plus there was some concern about Jamaal putting the ball on the ground. A lot of people around here were yelling for Kolby Smith.

The concern was always fumbles.
But the electricity was always there. In 2008, during the short live Thigpen era, he had 106 yards on 18 carries and he shined in the Buffalo and Miami game later that year. That paired with the fact that he always looked good in preseason.
by DeuceDouglas on Jan 31, 2012 5:36 PM CST up reply actions
I'm not saying JC didn't look good,
but he wasn’t the obvious starter at the beginning of 2009.
LJ fooled all of us in the preseason and TC that year, a lot of us thought he would well and return to the Jim Brownesque back he was before. But then LJ was LJ and the era was over.

Yep. Pioli's track record is starting to look like the rest of the guys who've left NE thinking they knew what they were doing
Pioli will be back in NE with Bellichick and McDaniels before too long if Clark has a clue what he’s doing… Did Lamar have a daughter? She might know more about American football than Clark, he’s too busy with soccer

He tried to blame his problems on “sex addiction” and wrote a whole story confessing the rape to his wife. His wife gave it to the sister-in-law’s lawyers and filed for divorce.
Clark Hunt, on the other hand, doesn’t bother me at all. Most of the criticism of him seems to stem mainly from the fact that he doesn’t say much or seek publicity. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t involved or that he doesn’t support the team. He just shelled out a ton of money the last two years to retain our best players…so he definitely isn’t cheap.

Todd Haley was a great young Coach for Kansas City...
Whoever is to blame… it doesn’t really matter because it is all speculation anyway from every angle.
If the Steelers hire Todd he will most likely do really well there, because the Steelers wont hire him if they think there is a high chance that he fails IMO. They just are not a team that does things like that very often.
No, most likely if Todd becomes a Steeler Offensive Coordinator, he will be successful and we will all be scratching our heads about what was really going on with the play calling in Kansas City during his tenure.
It will be hard to watch Todd Haley achieve greatness with another team, because he showed so much promise here. Dam injuries.

Pittsburgh is great at handling controversy… Look what they did with Ben, except for nick name giving fans, no one really even talks about the Steelers organization in a bad light. I’m sure they can handle a couple side line out bursts from Haley.
I don’t know why side line outbursts are a huge topic anyway. Especially in KC, a town that loved Marty and Gunther doing the same thing… but it’s whatever.
The real issue is whether he can call plays. For some reason I think with Scott Pioli out of his hair and with a chip on his shoulder… Todd Haley will do very well. Plus Ben rarely goes down easy, which was a Chiefs problem with Haley, but in Pittsburgh those dead plays will develop more often than in Kansas City. That will make a big difference.

Texan_Chief has a hate-bone for Haley and has since the day he was hired.
He’s explained it to me a couple of times, and I disagree on most of his reasons. He’s gonna believe what he wants, and I guess that’s fine.
A lot of it has to do with how some personal stuff has been reported (Haley’s wife found a rat in her salad at a McD’ds) and the whole TO shouting match in Dallas. He also claims that Haley is terrible because Parcells didn’t snag him for MIA, which he never had a chance to do because Todd was already negotiating with Arizona at that point.
Feel free, Tex, to jump in and clairify, but I think I’ve given CBO most of the background on this one, right?

He needs to be able to move on. The Chiefs need to move on. And WE need to move on.

My issue is the bashing he takes on every thread about him

Todd haley left us a much better team than when he started
Good luck Haley, I’m sure you’re sick of all the haters.
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

Other than image
This team really is in great shape right now, it is a good year to come out next season where the Chiefs thrive… as the under dog that everyone over looks.

That may be the case.
But the main thing I look at is: Are the Chiefs better off without him? And I can’t help but think yes. At first everything seemed to be going in a positive direction but as everything unfolded this season it seems more and more like he had a negative affect on things.
by DeuceDouglas on Jan 31, 2012 6:08 PM CST up reply actions
Or, things had a negative effect on him, and the shit rolled downhill.
The offensive coordinator thing and the Palko thing are my biggest beefs with Todd. Otherwise, I think he did this team some good and, EVENTUALLY, will be an incredibly successful (and assholish) head coach somewhere. He has a lot to learn to get there but I think it’ll happen.
It’s funny…Marty, Cowher do something and KC Fans think it’s gospel. Haley does something and KC Fans think he’s the worst.

He Might Have A Career Ahead Of Him
Here’s the thing, though…taking opinions on his actual talent level out of the equation, he’s a guy in his 40s who’s got some serious anger and professionalism issues. By the time you hit your 40s, you pretty much are who you are. He’s not a 20 year old who just needs to mature, he’s a 40 year old who hasn’t. So I’m skeptical that he’s going to get it at this point if he hasn’t already.
Simple fact is that when you’re in your 40s, you shouldn’t be getting into stupid pissing contests with your boss. You shouldn’t be going on the record with reporters and accusing your boss of wiretapping your phone (even if he did it). You shouldn’t be getting into pissing contests with colleagues like he did with McDaniels and Harbaugh (even if McDaniels deserved it). Wisdom isn’t just about being right…it’s about understanding that it’s a bad idea to constantly tell your coworkers, bosses and colleagues that they’re wrong. At least if you want to have much of a career.

If he’s unable to master that, I agree…he’s S-O-L. And you might be right, it could be too late for the dog to learn a new trick. We’ll see how badly he wants to coach in the NFL, or how badly he wants to be right all the time.

BTW, I approve this message UC. Good thoughts.

Look, I'm fine with Haley being gone if it means Crennel can do a better job
But come on. Every time a new development on Haley to Pittsburgh is posted, it becomes Bash City on the guy. A little hint, the jokes are tired and we still have no idea whose fault all of this is, all we can do is wait and see if he is a good coordinator with Ben. My question is, why not wish the guy luck at least until it’s fully determined that Haley was the one who sabotaged the season?

agree. i dont think we know enough, and even so, i wish him well, and its why i stay out of these threads.

So?
We talk about former Chiefs and Chiefs coaches here all the time. Haley gets criticized because he did a bad job and did some really stupid things to get himself fired. I’m not going out of my way to bash the guy elsewhere, but I don’t care if other people post about it. If the tone is harsh towards him, guess he should have done a better job.

We went from 2-14
to a playoff game in 2 seasons.
I hope Crennel does as much

It's not that people shouldn't criticize him
He did enough to deserve that. I’m speaking towards the need for some reason to continue with the same jokes/exact same criticisms that were already said ten threads ago about the same subject. All Joel has to do is put up another thread that has the word Haley in it, and here come the wolves. “Hey, it’s another Haley update, let’s bash him again, who cares how unproductive talking about a former coach is.” Meanwhile Pioli’s boy Cassel lays back and waits out the storm all offseason so people will forget just enough about his lack of physical skills. Not as much backlash when he’s deemed the starter yet again.
Welcome To Arrowhead Pride
Have you met us? We can recite lines from Snickers ads and Casey Printers rants…nothing ever gets dropped.
The guy got fired less than two months ago. He sucked. Fans will criticize him until the Chiefs give us a reason to forget him (for good or bad). That’s life. As for Cassel, I’ve seen at least as much criticism about him as about Haley.

At least Cassel is still on the team
We gotta keep our eyes on the prize. And Haley has nothing to do with it anymore. To take a page from the conspiracy theorists around here, this is almost like a smoke screen for the inactivity we will probably see when it comes to the quarterback position and other upgrades that should happen this offseason.

I Do Agree They Need To Upgrade At QB
I tend to be on the fence about Cassel. I don’t think he was as good as his 2008 and 2010 stats indicated, nor as bad as 2009 and 2011 indicated. He’s a so-so QB with limitations…basically a journeyman. You can win with a guy like that, but he can’t carry your team, he’s never going to be a franchise guy, and he’s only ever going to be as good as the tools he’s given. And you’ll never win a Super Bowl with him unless you’ve got a killer defense and running game (and our defense, while improving, is not killer).
Basically, he’s a guy you should look to upgrade on if you get a shot at someone potentially better. Unfortunately, I don’t know who out there is better. We aren’t going to get RGIII or Luck. Flynn is an option I suppose, but I suspect he’ll be in Miami. Manning is a question mark. I don’t consider Stanzi a serious option. I think the Chiefs would have to reach to draft one of the second-tier QBs. So I don’t know what their upgrade would be.

A couple Jason LaCanfora quotes on Haley interviewing for the Steelers OC position
“His style’s a lot different than what Ben’s used to.”
“He wouldn’t be Ben’s first choice to coach him.”

After what was said about Sanchez...
I think that would have been quite the amusing pairing, Haley and Sanchez.

Goood Thing for Haley, Tomlin's in charge of hiring
And not Ben. I think Haley and Ben will get along great. Both tough guys who just want to win. I also think Tomlin and Haley would be a great combo. Both always talking about accountability.
Yes, they both look confused........
