Who should be Chiefs Starting QB in 2012?
.I have my own opinion but I would like to hear from others. We had 3 quarterbacks at the end of 2012. It is obvious to me and most veteran NFL scouts and observers who is the best at this point in time. There have been some reports that Colts are not totally sold on Andrew Luck. Should the Chiefs stand pat with Cassel, sign Orton and promote him to #1 QB or pursue another QB through Free Agency and also the Draft?

who SHOULD be or who WILL be??

because Matt Cassel WILL be. He will be given every shot to succeed BECAUSE of the amount of money he makes. If Cassel is not the starter his contract needs to be restructured or he needs to be released.

I personally WANT him to be because i like him and yes I know that i am the only Chiefs fan that feels this way.lol

Todd Haley + Matt Cassel= Chuck Norris

I'm rec'n that c2db for blatant honesty..............

…………I think Cassel is a great guy, but not my favorite QB. IMO Orton, for the right price can fill in for a couple of years quite well and be better than Cassel.

Gross! Casshole supporters!

Seriously though, Casshole sucks! He cant read D’s and does not know how to use his feet when throwing and does not make progressions AT ALL. I am tired of watching that failure go out there. If the Chiefs are going to suck again for another year because of the absolute shit at QB, then I would much rather see Stanzi go out there. Tired of wishing in one hand and shitting in the other theory. You already know that Casshole is a backup QB at best. Stop wanting him to play because of money. If Cassel goes in the starter in the first game of the year. Well I dont know what I will do, but it may involve burning Arrowhead to the freaking ground

Maybe it was Haley who set the..........

he kind of looks like a pyromaniac

Well, we are maybe the only 2 who want to give Cassel another shot.

I just don’t see how Orton is this major improvement over Cassel. He struggled to score , in the redzone, maybe even worse than Cassel did. The Donks chased Orton out of town, after 5 games, last season. I want to see how Cassel does with an OC that isn’t so damn predicitable with the playcalling, leaving Cassel in way too many 3rd and long situations.

Alot of short memories on this board. Cassel made the Pro Bowl, in 2010, threw the 16 TD passes, to Bowe, that led the league, led the team to a division title, and he certainly was not the reason the whole team stunk, to begin this year. That had to be Haley not having the team near ready to play ball, to start the season. Cassle did rebound, and was the QB of our 3 or 4 game winning streak this season, before he got hurt, and the Palko era began.

I also don’t want to write off Stanzi yet. We have no idea of how he is gonna perform. He will have a full offseason, this year, and we should get a better idea of if he has what it takes.

I put Cassel in the same group as a Matt Schuab, who would likely have been in the AFC Championship game, if healthy. Not elite, but in that next group.

There once was a man from Nantucket......Nevermind.

Oh yeah Cassel NEVER struggled to score in the redzone!

That’s because Casshole NEVER GOT TO THE ENDZONE! Sad when your HC flat out says that the WR’s need to get more YAC because the QB is trusted to get the ball downfield or even read a defense to allow a pass beyond 8 yards to be completed.

Cassel and Bowe both exploited the single WORST division in football last year, and can be argued that that division might have been one of the worst in all time. So please I am tired of that bullshit reasoning. Cassel’s crappy probowl appearance was due to the easiest schedule he could play, and also is HIS CEILING! He will never be able to be better than that.

To compare Casshole to Schuab is embarrasing for Schuab. Cassel is garbage. You should not want to be good with mediocre. Want better! Want more! You know what Cassel will give you, which is nothing without JC, and with JC he still cant give you a win in a playoff game. Give a shot to a person that you dont know about, because this franchise will NEVER improve if they are constantly scared to make moves that could have high risk/high reward. Playing is safe will mean a constant disappointment.

Just accept it. You as a fan should DEMAND that this team get the BEST at any position. Unless you are just happy with losing and 20 years since a playoff win, and over 40 years since a championship.

Wtf

Chiefs won the division last season despite Cassel, and because of Jamaal Charles who had 6.4 yards per carry. Cassel’s best plays of the year was him handing off the ball to JC for long gains and that pass he overthrew by a mile to Moeaki in SF for the TD. He was so pathetic at converting 3rd downs… Yeah dink it down to your FB/RB/TE 3 yards away from the first down while defenders are breathing down their necks. Matt Cassel had no positives in his play. Never knew when to throw the ball away, prone to interceptions whether it was int or fumbles, no awareness in the pocket, one of the worst accuracy in the league, slowest ducks in the NFL, cant convert on 3rd, cant read defenses, focuses on one receiver all the time. Absolutely no positives at all when you talk about talent and skill. I guess he is a “great leader” when he tries to pick up the locker room loss after loss.

I don't see any realistic great options out there

I say go with Cassel for one more year – if he stinks, play Stanzi, and draft a QB high in 2013.

Orton should be, Cassel will be.....

1. Try to resign Orton, Cassel and Orton fight it out in Training camp and Preseason.
2. If no Orton keep Cassel and at the least draft a 2nd-3rd QB prospect to compete with Stanzi.
3. Cassel or Orton start the season with 2 young hungry QB’s fighting it out to be next.
4. If starter fails throw in the rook or Stanzi.
5. 2013, if the QBs suck draft a QB high 1st or 2nd and have a 3 way fight or if stanzi or 2012 rook look good, draft a later round QB for a project.
6. Repeat drafting project QB’s late then maybe we can trade our backups for 2nd round picks one day.

Orton is not gonna re-sign to fight it out with Cassel

If Orton is signed he is the starter.

Sometimes it's systems

and sometimes it’s coaching, but why is it that Stanzi never had a shot even in mop up duty?Who’s draft pick was he?Pioli or Haley? My guess is Pioli & that’s one of the reasons Haley got booted.(IMHO).I think Stanzi will either play for the start or get booted quickly.I see him fighting for the starters job.

Stanzi

Ill lose my mind if Cassel starts

by RamX21 on Jan 31, 2012 2:24 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Maybe Pioli hasn't talked to Orton yet because...

he is waiting for Manning to hit the market??? There is much more optimism that he will play after his interview on espn.

P. Manning

If not, then bring in Campbell, Orton, Henne, Quinn, Flynn….someone to actually compete with Cassel

by Chiefs_KC on Jan 31, 2012 3:10 PM CST reply actions

Umm I'm with you with Manning and Orton, maybe Campbell

But what the hell are you smoking wanting Henne and Quinn. That is possibly worse than Cassel. We have seen what those failures have done… nothing. Flynn is to me a flyer and a huge risk. I would be opposed to it simply because I have seen now what Casshole and that douche from Philly to AZ ( I called that he was going to suck though). But with Flynn there isnt a whole lot of tape or anything on him. I dont know that is just a difficult spot with him.

by readANDgold58 on Jan 31, 2012 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

the sad story is that back up QBs on other teams if given a fair shot to compete with Cassel would probably outplay him

Other than Manning, none of the QBs I listed can win a SB for the Chiefs. they’re just better options than Palko or Stanzi

by Chiefs_KC on Jan 31, 2012 3:17 PM CST up reply actions

Not just Palko or Stanzi, but most are better options than Cassel

I would almost take that kid from Houston that took them to the playoffs and WON a game. And could have beaten the Ravens. It would be nice to see if we could snag him

There is no reason Cassel shouldn't be the starter

I am utterly perplexed why the sentiment surrounding Cassel is so negative. His performance (including a Pro Bowl nod) doesn’t warrant it.
