I get the impression Neal is not Haley's biggest fan.

Yup

They absolutely nailed it.

some BS in there

but, interesting to see their perspective

Most of that was just regurgitating his reputation.

Nothing really insightful.

The only insight is comparing what Haley brings

with what the Steelers apparently have/want. It is a somewhat compelling argument, I must say.

most of the haley hate is over inflated from last year

He’ll do fine, but I wholey expect everyone here to credit the Steelers org when he does

I Don't Think He'll Get The Job

I suspect that he’ll actually be lucky to ever get another coaching job in the NFL…and that if he does he’ll never rise above position coach.

And that’s not hate…that’s just pointing out that absent Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald, Todd Haley’s offenses have never been that good. This is, after all, the same guy who kept Jamaal Charles on the bench for Larry (2.7 ypc) Johnson his first year here. And who refused to name Charles as a starter over Thomas Jones, despite Charles clearly outplaying him. And who couldn’t even get plays called in on time on a regular basis. And who couldn’t play nice with other people on the offense…which you have to be able to do at some point

The guy has serious issues as anything other than a position coach. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he never coached again in the NFL. And that’s not me wishing that on him…just stating that I think he’s probably destroyed himself as a coordinator or HC candidate and has possibly ended his career with his behavior here.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 11:36 AM CST up reply actions

I think he will have to go back to being a WR coach for a few years first

then if he calms the crazy down he might get looked at as an OC again. If none of that works out for him maybe he can become a golf instructor

Yup

Whatever his deal is, I hope he gets help.

To a degree he reminds me a lot of Mark Mangino. That was another guy whose career seems to have been wrecked by his inability to control his temper.

My guess

is that his future employer will look at the fact that he pulled off a win on the road in the NFL with Palko as QB. That right there will make many think he is a offensive guru.

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 11:55 AM CST up reply actions

As long as they don't look at the score.

Or the stats or the game film or anything.

But...

Palko for crying out loud!!!

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 12:09 PM CST up reply actions

So you're giving him credit for playing Palko?

"Be an analyst. Don’t be a douchebag." - Terrell Suggs to Skip Bayless

by Tarkus on Jan 31, 2012 12:10 PM CST up reply actions

What

were his options? Orton didn’t even show up until a Friday his first week, Brodied his hand the second week, and was still Brodied the third week. After that third week it was all done for Haley.

I will give Haley all the credit in the world for winning even one game with Palko when no other coach I know of could have pulled that off.

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 12:13 PM CST up reply actions

You're right,

No other coach could have pulled that off, because no coach in their right mind would have been playing PALKO.Haley acted wreckless and he got the boot to show for it. If he wanted to win and keep his job, he would have starte Orton the next week ,and not brought him in on a stupid flea flicker. I’m glad Haley is gone, with his Palko butt love, and I give him no credit for that win. The Bears just out failed the CHiefs that game. Orton or Stanzi is a better option then Palko, even if Orton got signed Staurday night. I’d put him in Sunday over Palko.

by dbakerku on Jan 31, 2012 12:51 PM CST up reply actions

First off

We don’t know, and probably never will know about Stanzi. Stanzi very well may be the next Brodie. Who, if memory serves, many here were hoping would be our starting QB over Cassell in 09. In regards to Palko… Who else did we have on the team at the time? Screaming to start Orton on day one could very well have worked out just as well as it did for the Raiders and Palmer.

So, again. Who were our options? At least Palko won an NFL game. How many did Brodie win?

And who gave us the only option we had? Who did not go out looking for a halfway decent backup? Who passed up all the available options that were out there once camp did start?

And let’s not forget that with Palko we did score two TD’s which is twice as many as we were able to score with Orton in just as many games.

If Orton had been able to practice, and didn’t pull a Brodie there might have been a different story to this season.

All the out right hatred I see directed at Haley just tells me that those that hated Haley can’t remember what it was like during the Herm years. I do, and the second year of the Herm era is when I dropped my season tickets. I mean, come on. 15 wins over three years? Haley at least pulled off 19 in two and three quarter years.

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 1:14 PM CST up reply actions

So you are really ok with Haley trotting Palko out on the field after all those turnovers he had

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 1:22 PM CST up reply actions

Stanzi

he looked better than Palko in preseason

And

Brodie always looked good in preseason as well. Urban looked great every preseason, but he is no Bowe, Breaston, or Baldwin. How many times have we seen a player look great in preseason and stink it up during the regular season?

And looking great during preseason going against third, fourth, and bubble players does not translate to doing great against first and second team.

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 2:15 PM CST up reply actions

Since Palko played bad in preseason too

I guess Haley got the continuity he was looking for

You're Ignoring The Basic Fact

That after Haley was fired, Romeo Crennel immediately demoted Palko behind Stanzi. Immediately. That to me says that Palko was not so much better than Stanzi that Haley was right not to even give Stanzi a look.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 2:45 PM CST up reply actions

Or...

Romeo could have just been playing to the fan base knowing we didn’t ever want to see Palko out there again. Face it. We would have been just as happy if Romeo promoted my dog to second string QB over Palko.

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 3:02 PM CST up reply actions

True

But I also think it was a case of Palko having no ability as an NFL QB. He’s 28 years old and as good as he’ll ever get.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 5:17 PM CST up reply actions

Never denied that

But we really do not know if Stanzi is better or worse than Palko, while we do know my dog is slightly better. We did learn one other thing though as well. We found out that, sadly my dog>Palko>Croyle.

by Zif on Jan 31, 2012 5:42 PM CST up reply actions

Disagree

Croyle was better than Palko. Which is sad because Croyle was terrible.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 6:05 PM CST up reply actions

You guys are idiots...

if you think that Tyler Palko would of done shit with any other team. The Chiefs had Palko and almost beat the Steelers. While I’m a Packers fan, Haley wasn’t a bad coach…he just got screwed

by PackFan235 on Jan 31, 2012 12:00 PM CST up reply actions

Ummm

He didn’t do anything here. He got two fluke TDs and couldn’t move the offense. He’s part of the reason Haley got fired. The only reason the Chiefs were competitive with Palko in the game was because of the defense.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 12:01 PM CST up reply actions

The Chiefs almost beat the Steelers

because of RAC’s defense. Haley’s “expertise” is offense, and his offenses sucked his entire three years in K.C. Also, Haley didn’t even try Stanzi, when Palko was doing his best to throw games away.

So under a mediocre offense...

We had Charles average 6.39 yards per carry. Either Charles is awesomely fantastical or the offense wasn’t mediocre.

by kcgiant06 on Jan 31, 2012 2:27 PM CST up reply actions

The Former

Charles is fantastically awesome. The offense, on the other hand, was decidedly mediocre.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 2:41 PM CST up reply actions

Charles is that good

There are plenty of good players that played on bad teams.

Remember when Jerome Bettis was on the Rams and put up good numbers but they couldn’t win and Steven Jackson is continuing that trend for them.

Yup

Barry Sanders. He had shitty teams for most of his HOF run.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 2:46 PM CST up reply actions

yeah, but when you have Sean Ryan at TE Bobby Wade, and Darvard Darling at WR to go along with Bowe in year 1 then a lockout year 3

Haley had a lot of things going against him. I don’t think he was as bad as everyone is now making him out to be. The Chiefs did draft #5 and #3 in two of the 3 years leading to the hiring of Haley and Pioli so it’s not like they were a high scoring offence to start with and he tanked it

by Chiefs_KC on Jan 31, 2012 1:29 PM CST up reply actions

What about the teams that improved after the lockout

Seattle

They had Tarvaris Jackson starting for them and improved over the course of the year. The Chiefs can make no such claim until after Haley got fired.

Let’s be clear…Todd Haley stunk. I won’t argue that Pioli gave him a top-notch roster, but Todd Haley did a terrible job with it.

And Haley,

never gave us fans, much of a chance for sticking up for him this year. Pioli may not be perfect, but Haley screwed him self

by dbakerku on Jan 31, 2012 12:53 PM CST up reply actions

Yup

Pointing out that Haley stunk doesn’t let Pioli off the hook for his part. And now that Haley’s gone, Pioli had better hope Romeo produces.

by UCrawford on Jan 31, 2012 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

Almost beating the Steelers does look impressive...

until you realize that same Steelers team got run out of Denver by Tim Tebow.

by DeuceDouglas on Jan 31, 2012 1:41 PM CST up reply actions

Not quite the same Steelers team.

They were a lot healthier when we played them.

For the dislike of the Steelers...

…go for it!

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

by Scott B. on Jan 31, 2012 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

I guess Tomlin should be fired for having Haley in his list?

If Haley is hired by the Steelers, it will change the way the league view Hunt/Pioli. The Steelers are one of the teams the Chiefs say they want to emulate.

The fact that Haley is on the Steelers list changes the Haley-hater narrative. That, or the Steelers are a stupid organization.

by ChiefConcern on Jan 31, 2012 1:21 PM CST reply actions

The Steelers aren't perfect.

They just fired their last OC, after all.
