How Many Of You Would Be Dissapointed if Manning came to KC?
Despite the arguments...at the end of the day, how many Chiefs fans would be upset if Manning came to the Chiefs?
This shouldn't be about can they or can't they. Or What they Pay / Give Up for Manning. Or How Long He Plays.
If the guy can start, do you want him on opening day against the Broncos ( my guess is that we open against the Broncos in Denver but that's just a simple guess.... another option could be the Colts....which would be awesome if Peyton vs Luck was the opener)

That's a lot of money that could go somewhere else, man.
Do you want to win one Super Bowl now then be mediocre for 10 years or 3 Super Bowls over the next decade?

We haven't won a single playoff game in 18 years
I wouldn’t get too far ahead of myself with the 3 SBs in 10 years talk.

I would take 1 SB and then be mediocre for the next 20 years at this point.

How the hell are we winning 3 Superbowls in a decade without him?
Also, paying 1 guy will make a team mediocre for 10 years?
Also, haven’t we been mediocre for abour 40 years? Those options are weird.

Unlike the Early 90s / Montana
The Chiefs could have the replacement in check w/ Stanzi (who might need another year on the Bench).
Outside of Rivers there isn’t a dominating 4th Quarter QB in the AFC West and San Diego looks like a mess right now.
So this is what it's come to
“we haven’t had a franchise QB play on this team for 20 years (let alone never draft one ourselves), but lets hold our breath on a fifth round pick being the savior”

Trent Green was not that great, the offensive line was one of the best in history
Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl
agreed
he was great for us. but 3 years with the most loaded offense in the league doesn’t make you a franchise QB

And it's not like we'd be cutting players to make cap room for him
hell, if he’s healthy & we are lucky with injuries we could win 3 Super Bowls in the next 4 years WITH him.

Super Bowl
Ask around… (this should be a poll) 1 Super Bowl every ten years is a pretty GREAT DEAL. Its been too long since the last one.

Manning gives us an immediate chance to win one...
Who’s going to give us a chance to win 3 of the next 10? We’re not getting RG III or Luck. Our only chance would be to “Suck for Barkley” like the Colts did this year, and then RAC would likely get fired…no thanks….

... unless it turns out he can't throw the ball
which may not be something anyone knows until August, and it may be that he never fully recovers at all

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
we won one super bowl
and have been very mediocre for the last 41 years.
I could handle a change
The only measure of true success in the NFL is the Vince Lombardi trophy. Anything less is a rationalization.
1.Cassell costs too much too release and, 2. Peyton wouldnt play for us because of our VERY offensive line would end his carrer before midseason…. Anyone see our O-line signings in january??
by aaronbenavidez426@yahoo.com on Jan 31, 2012 4:52 PM CST up reply actions
Correction, Cassel's contract was designed to be friendly about now
Releasing him wouldn’t hurt.
As for the O-Line we need at a minimum one starter (I’m looking at you Barry) and a new G wouldn’t hurt. That’s what FA and the draft are for.
And Manning’s strength has always been that he stays untouched because he gets rid of the ball so damn fast. It’d work.
I would have to say no.
I would not be disappointment.
"saints_chiefsfan1979 is a genius" - yes, I lost a bet.
Neither would I
Now, in all fairness, there would be some who would claim that I’m a disappointment (parents, teachers, wife, bosses, etc). But that’s for slightly different reasons.

I'd be disappointed
Spending the amount of $$$ he would require on a player who would be a liability is disappointing on a business perspective.

for how long?
Do you really want to hold your breath and pray every time he goes down or as soon as the defense penetrates the pocket?

Some of the best surgeons in the country say that he can recover 100%
Based on what I’ve read, the main issue is whether or not his nerve cells are able to regenerate. If they are he’ll be completely healthy, if not he’ll never have the same velocity on his throws. So if he’s recovered, he should be no more of an injury risk than any other 36 year old QB who has never missed a game.
And to your earlier point, from a financial perspective it’s a no-brainer to pay him. Additional ticket sales alone would probably pay for the increased payroll for his salary…add in potential playoff games & merchandise sales from the buzz & it would be quite profitable for Hunt.
Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things
then too, a couple of league surgeons were cited yesterday in a Jason Cole story ...
Not only is the nerve regeneration and arm strength an ongoing issue, and taking longer than anyone thought, but …
… two league-affiliated doctors with experience in spinal fusion surgery said it could take up to a year before Manning knows if he can return. Both said the risk is too great for Manning to play again …
I’m not a doctor, but those guys are … even if by the start of next season he can play again, and right now even that is looking hazy at best, there is still a risk relating to the surgery itself
it’s really time to put to rest the myths that he’s at no more risk than anyone else

No, I would still be a human being, although my emotions might change.
The General Manager might be disappointment, however, if he was more concerned with who can fill seats instead of who can win games.
Would You Be Disappointment If Manning Came To Kansas City?
If it wasn’t for the accursed paycheck, would I really imprison myself in this dungeon of the human soul?

I would be more disappointed if
we were still 20 million under the cap at the start of next season without him then i would be 5 under with him… if he’ll come then bring him in, and also remember hes not going to get as much as we think. Hes old and damaged goods and no team besides us that needs a qb has as much cap room as we do

If Manning says he can play,
Pioli should go get him. He was going to play matt cassel, one of the worst QBs in the NFL anyway, so if Manning goes down we can play him or stanzi for backup. It makes us into superbowl contenders immediately, and the only real opponents during the season will be injuries. Chiefs cannot swing and miss on a guy that can bring us a superbowl, especially when we are trotting out a terrible QB. People trash the jets for criticizing Sanchez, but at least the players are putting the franchise ahead of any player. Pioli is going to play Cassel till the end of his career if everyone goes along and pretends that he is a NFL QB.
If Manning is healthy and the Colts have cut him
then I would be beyond pissed if we didn’t at least try for him.
I mean the thing is that with an elite QB this team can do it. Right now.

In the next 2 years..........
There will not be 1 proven, elite QB on the market (other then brees who will be re-signed) If Peyton is healthy, which he said he would be on espn today, then we better try to get him/ You can’t tell me, that If Manning is signed by the Chiefs you’d be mad! Just a year and a half ago he was top 4 in QB’s in the NFL! And there is not a QB in the draft, or on the free agency market, that has proved that they can p;lay at the level that Peyton Manning can. And the Pioli, Crennel, and the whole staff has about 3 years tops to get close to the Super bowl to keep their jobs, and Peyton Manning is the best QB to take them there in these next 3 years. Yeah, you can say Matt Flynn would be a good pickup better then signing Peyton, but he is far from proven too.
Charles, Mccluster, Moeaki, Bowe, Breaston, Baldwin, DJ, Berry, Flowers, Carr= Super Bowl Bound.

I’m 50/50 on this I’d like peyton is he is a 100% healthy but if we get him and he keeps up this weak arm strength and shoulder issues due to his neck and nerves acting up not thank you!

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
nope
Because it would show Pioli being creative and realizing that an upgrade over Cassel vastly improves the team. Sadly though with recent reports all indicators are pointing to his neck being far too suspect to play again and he retires. Sad for the best QB ever to not be able to go out on his own terms.
KC Draft prediction: No OT taken in first round
Peyton Manning would be a great fit in KC...
as the offensive coordinator. The sheer amount of repetition and film study he will require of Cassel will either force Cassel to improve or cause his brain to hemorrhage and return to the IR before the season starts.

You take the chance on Manning if he becomes a free agent and says he can still play
If we keep starting Cassel, what is that saying to all the players on the Chiefs? Everyone is going to leave the team. Show that we want to win, and it is not even a stretch to say Chiefs are Superbowl contenders if Manning can stay healthy. If manning/doctors declares that he is healthy enough to play, we take him.
A coworker of mine made an intriguing comment today
If Peyton Manning were to retire, would he become an offensive coordinator?
I thought that was an interesting idea…he is certainly well-versed in offensive game plans and in game adjustments.
Thoughts?

I don't know
but I know that nobody can read a opposing defense like Manning can. And he essentially has been calling plays for the last decade. Would that translate to the sideline or the booth? I think there is chance it could…
Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl
been "biting my tongue" on this ... just can't anymore
bottom line?
I’d be ridiculously pissed off if Pioli was asinine and stupid enough to even consider Manning …
first, if Manning was even close to healthy Irsay would welcome him back to win his own title in his own town … but Irsay knows already that Manning’s not even close to close to ready and might never be ready, on top of the extra risk involved … Irsay may be a cold-blooded owner but the last thing he wants to see is Manning carted off the field after a hit and learn that his prize QB (and yes, The Franchise for many years and yes, more than “just an employee” is suddenly wheelchair bound … he wants that? please … nobody wants that (and yes, according to NFL doctors Manning’s risk is indeed higher now following three surgeries)
but let’s play pretend here … we’ll pretend that Manning is cut … how long does a team need to wait to find out if he can throw again? a month>? 3 months? 6 months? perhaps, maybe longer … and yes, maybe never
a team should put the universe on hold to wait and find out if he’s cleared AND ready? how shortsighted is that? very! rather like the foolish shortsightedness that brought us Tyler Palko to back up the indestructible Matt Cassel
Pioli’s done more than enough damage to the team already … it’s time he take steps to get it fixed instead of getting us mired down even further in quicksand …
Mr Orton … calling Mr Orton

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I don't disagree with the sentiments
I do think though, that if Manning proves he can throw, there is no reason to not sign him. He is the healthiest (this injury aside) 36 year old QB in the NFL.
You couldn’t be MORE right about the waiting game. Those are the details and I’m sure you know this…the devil is in the details.
Bottom line: do I want a healthy Manning? You damn betcha! Am I willing to wait six months to see if he is healthy? Negative.
In accordance with the prophecy
