Manning to be a free agent?
Jim Irsay on Sunday NFL Countdown stated 2 very important things. They will not trade Manning & they will draft either Luck or RG3. All the speculation says you can't give Manning that extended contract which is too much money for too many question marks. Which means the only conclusion can be, Manning will be a free agent!
If he is cleared to play, the Chiefs wouldn't have to give up any assets besides money to get 1 of the best QB's in the history of the game. Will it happen? i sure hope so.
on another point, we're looking for an offensive co-ordinator; is Tom Moore available???? I'm just throwing it out there, imagine adding Moore, drawing in Manning, and if the defense played like it did in the back half of last year I think in 2 swift moves we could become a superbowl contender.
what are your thoughts?
ALSO, I know I'm going overboard BUT saturday/wayne are also free agents. Our offense has been our biggest question for what seems like forever (the dick vermiel days). Can you imagine Manning with bowe, wayne, breaston, baldwin, moeaki, and having charles in the backfield; have the ol OC of the colts to boot (moore). Then throw in 1 of the best centers in the league (saturday), draft one of the best RT's in the league with our 1st round pick & now you've got 1 hell of an upgraded o-line. That would be a transformation from one of the leagues worst to one of the leagues best offenses in the league.
I know I'm in dreamland, but don't wake me up just yet :)

I can copy and paste too
They will not trade Manning & they will draft a quarterback (either RG3 or Luck).
Assuming that it was implied that it would be RGIII or Luck, but why?
What IF Manning comes back healthy, Colts stick with him.. and draft a mid/late round guy to finally have Manning groom?

because with all the question marks about his health
they aren’t going to be willing to pay the 28million dollar bonus knowing they are going to be taking the best QB in the draft.
its no guarantee, but it certainly seems to be the logical conclusion.
these are the conclusions they drew on NFL countdown & makes sense..

Or they know Manning will be healthy, gives them the best chance to win
Trade out of the 1st pick, gaining a ton of ammo to rebuild the team while still grooming a new QB
He said they would take a QB, not where they would, just another spin on it.

no, he said he'd take Luck or RG3
that they were thinking of taking a QB regardless, but now with this opportunity they will be taking Luck or RG3. Specifically named those 2 qb’s as who they’re going to take.

Yep, that's what he said.
Some people are acting like this is a difficult decision for them. I don’t think it could be any easier.

is insane. and irsay said he will not trade him.

They can't really trade him
All you had to say from the start was that he actually did name RGIII and Luck haha

He compared it
to when they had to choose between Manning and Leaf. I find it hard to believe they’re considering anyone but Luck, though.

Improbable but not impossible.
There is the possibility that Irsay might want to go away from the same type of player as Manning for his next QB so the fans don’t have something to compare him too. But with Arians there now you would think that Luck has to be the pick.

Probably just keeping his options open.
In case something goes wrong in negotiations (although that’s less of an issue now), or Luck breaks his leg at the combine or something. No reason to make a verbal commitment right now.

This was a really good fanshot with the link you had.
Not to mention you were already getting good input there.

sorry
just find fanshots don’t get enough attention & get pushed off the page too quick. I’m a bit of a noob, even though I read here everyday I only have 1-2 fanpost/shots

I see you've expanded it ... didn't see the link version which probably was a fanshot
fanshots DO get plenty of attention though … and this idea has been discussed at length many times

I think with all the goings on within Indy and Owner Jim "The Mad-Tweeter" Irsay
who keeps saying “keep it in the family…I’ll tweet about it later,” I think its becoming more and more apparent that Manning’s days in Indy are done. Lot of speculation on ESPN about him going to the Jets.
Manning can go anywhere he wants. I don’t know if he would be interested in KC or not, or if the Chiefs would join that mad race simply because who knows how healthy Peyton really is? Which is a major factor in the decision to let him go in the first place. Irsay’s medical staff are selling Manning’s health, which, paired with the ability to draft Luck and save $28 Mil., is why Manning will be a FA IMO.
Dx3: Draft David DeCastro
Irsay was spreading it pretty thick.
Was acting like this isn’t about money at all, but about protecting Manning. B.S. If they release him, he’s going to sign to play for someone else anyway, assuming he can pass a physical.
"Be an analyst. Don’t be a douchebag." - Terrell Suggs to Skip Bayless
i think whoever gets manning
is going to get one hell of a motivated QB coming back after all of this. I really believe if healthy he will rebound to the form he was at before the injury & that he can play at that level by mid season.

we've had a few here on AP who have made the comment that they've had the same surgery as Manning and think he'd be insanely foolish to even consider playing again
it’s stunning to me that anyone – least of all someone as intelligent and well off financially as Manning – would even consider risking his long-term health when he already has all the acclaim, money and status he could ask for
absolutely he’s a fierce competitor, but there’s a time to push forward and a time to hang up the helmet and call it a career, and I firmly believe that’s what Manning will do and should do … he has nothing to prove to anyone, but a great deal at risk here as neck surgery is different from a simple broken bone or a muscle tear
anyone who has ever watched older boxers such as Ali when he was past his prime understands what’s at risk here … I respect Manning as much as anyone, and what he’s done over the years, and he’s firmly planted himself in any discussion of all time greatest QB’s in the NFL, but it’s time for Peyton to do what’s best for his longterm future
to ask Peyton to risk major and perhaps debilitating injury for the sake of our entertainment is selfish and needless
that’s my take on it

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
im sure hes not going to take huge risks on his long term health here
if thats the case I agree he won’t play. hes going to know what hes getting into before returning & going to have advice of the best doctors in the league.
by TheMainEvent on Jan 29, 2012 12:52 PM CST up reply actions
My take:
Nobody here knows as much about Peyton’s health situation as he and his doctors, so it’s foolish to try to make a decision for him, based on similar issues others have had.
"Be an analyst. Don’t be a douchebag." - Terrell Suggs to Skip Bayless
Indeed
We don’t have all the information, so it is a bit foolish to speculate about his health.
I think it is a foregone conclusion that Manning won’t be back with the Colts next year. Whether it be retirement or FA, only Irsay and Manning know, and neither is talking.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
I don't think it's foolish to speculate
that the Arrowhead turf in December is really, really hard.

As posted in the fan shot.
If you look at the QB needy teams that could be in the running you have Miami, Arizona, Washington, NYJ, Cleveland, Kansas City, Seattle and SanFrancisco.
When Manning is released he more then likely won’t have his medical clearance so no team is going to sign him right away and I wouldn’t be surprised if it drags past the draft before he gets clearance and is signed.
SanFran will be forced to commit to Alex Smith within five days of Mannings release so you can all but rule them out. Arizona have to re-commit to Kolb within a fews days after a potential Manning release so their going to have their hands tied financially. Miami has a new coach and system so they would probably be foolish to leave their QB search that late. And two of those other teams probably find their solution in the draft.
That will probably leave the Jets, Seahags and us. The Jets are going to be paying Dirty Sanchez over 11M$ next year and if I were Manning there’s no way I would want to go to NYJ with all the issues they have in the lockerroom, with their coach and considering they’re supposed to be a defensive team and aren’t even very good at that anymore.
The Seahawks and us both will have backup plans if we can’t get Manning so we can afford to wait to sign him. Both teams also have their QBs at very favorable cap numbers so the money isn’t an issue. There’s still alot that can happen but based on how things stand now I wouldn’t completely rule us out of the Manning sweepstakes if he’s healthy and if anything I would guess we would be a front runner.

"Be an analyst. Don’t be a douchebag." - Terrell Suggs to Skip Bayless
I saw an interview with Rex yesterday.
He was very adamant about Sanchez being their QB. He called him a great QB, and he looked forward to them being together for years. He said he’s their starter, and will be for some time. There was no ambivalence, such as when the Chiefs said they can win with Cassel, but also like Orton and possibly others. Rex left no room for anyone else to start for the Jets at QB. If it was anyone else, I might call B.S., but for all his faults, Rex shoots pretty straight.

well said i agree totally
will the chiefs ever draft a Qb in the first round, not since todd blackledge in 83. and the chiefs could of had marino. OH well atleast 65 toss power trap worked for KC, it should be wide open red. Hank stram still the man.

Nice take and totally agree
I could really see him wanting to stay in the AFC, too. Both to play the Colts and not to play Eli in the early playoffs. Plus he would have to compete with the 49ers for division crowns in Seattle, vs. KC where a 9-7 Tebow-lead team won it this year. I sure hope Pioli pursues him if healthy because I think we are the frontrunner.
sooner or later, God'll cut you down...
Wow, You mean there are TWO Tebow-led teams in the AFC West?
I wonder why the 9-7 team didn’t represent? Instead we were stuck with the 8-8 Broncos.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Couple of other notes
Wayne is old and close to done and would just be taking reps away from Baldwin. Saturday will likely retire and Tom Moore is an offensive consultant with the Jets.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
isn't it NFL policy you can interview anybody who would be upgrading jobs
and offensive coordinator would be anupgrade over offensive consultant. So he is available if we want him & he wants us

Only if the team gives permission.
They’re only required to give permission when a team wants to interview an assistant for a head coaching job.

doesn’t have the full oc title

how much could making moore our OC coordinator help us draw manning too
and who wouldnt love to see moore/manning running things on the offensive side of the ball. Maybe pioli is 10 steps ahead of us & this is why the OC search is taking so long, maybe they are already considering a move like this, but I doubt it. is it too much of a stretch to think they could do something like this?
What if the wait on Manning is to see if he will retire
then pursue him as our new OC? That’d blow my mind. And my brain.
Dx3: Draft David DeCastro
Nice thought. I doubt we can wait until March though.
