Where is Our Offensive Coordinator

I am becoming increasingly concerned that the Chiefs have yet to hire an Offensive Coordinator. The Dolphins named their New Coach a week ago and have already picked both Coordinators. I have reading and hearing reports that the Chiefs OC job is not a coveted position due to the unpopularity of the Owner and GM and most telling, the general consensus that Chiefs cannot win in Playoffs with Cassel at QB no matter how many weapons he has. I hope somebody out there has some info on what the problem is and if they have heard any names tossed around.

I dont think its either one of the poll questions.

The thing about picking cordinators is this, its not as easy as adding a name like most of us would like to think. You have to add someone who RAC can get along with, RAC is a great guy so odds are getting along wont be the problem but they like to have people they are somewhat on the same page with.

I think they are doing alot of interviewing and trying to find the right guy odds are with the way cordinators have been coming in and out of here like there is a swinging door I bet they are trying to find someone to stick so there is not such a bad rep on the organization, I wouldnt put to much into it.

just my opinion but I almost gaurantee daboll will be the guy, from what I heard he is a great football mind and great motivator also so im all for it. with rumors of miami hiring a new OC I assume his release from miami comes real soon.

Why Not Wait....

Until the Super Bowl is over to interview everyone? I’m guessing Pioli wants a coach from the Patriot Way…. Ferentz could be the man. Ferentz

yeah, that's what concerns me

not so much that it’s Ferentz … but a continuing insistence on that “Patriots Way” mantra

get the best players and coaches and win games, pretty simple (and yes, a simplistic viewpoint) but that’s really what it is … it’s football, not a secret recipe

I do get your point

but after reading War Room, do you not see why the “Patriot Way” is as effective as it is? I think Dimitroff has done a much better job of making it his own way, while staying true to the priniciples than Pioli has. I think Pioli has tried to hard to make it a carbon copy, but it is a pretty effective system.

No OC candidate in his right mind would care about any perceived negativity around Hunt/Pioli.

If your career goal is to be an HC in the NFL you almost always get there by excelling as a coordinator. If you’re an offensive coach, there’s only 32 of these jobs in the world. In this case you’d be working for an HC with 5 Superbowl rings. You take the job.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Thank you.

All the talk about how nobody will work for the Chiefs is ridiculous. That is certainly not the reason they haven’t hired an OC yet.

I believe the issue

Is the sooner the better. The longer you take the more scouting time gets wasted on all parts.

Romeo has been around long enough to have a few guys in mind. No need for nation wide OC search. Its obvious he came into the job totally unprepared about a staff.

How long should you try? Until.

I completely agree here and my big concern all along, and I sure hope it's not true, but if

a coach or OC (would naturally ask who the QB was going to be) were told that it basically had to be Cassel, then that could make it difficult.

SInce he didn't HAVE the job, how could he be prepared about a staff?

I don’t see the rush and having to wait for the Super Bowl to be over portends someone from a succesful team. I’m surely not afraid of getting anyone from the Patriots just because they are from the Patriots.
I also don’t think Cassel has a reputation that is scaring away prospective coaches. If Haley was half the nutcase that people here want to portray him, I think Cassel has to be given some leeway on that as well. It seemed like if you were not Kurt Warner, Haley was not going to let you take any chances, and that might even include looking at second and third options in your progressions.

How long should you try? Until.

by Matt_Grbac on Jan 29, 2012 5:22 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

"Unprepared" would be knee-jerk reactions to getting a staff in place

Going through the entire list of candidates, including ones not available yet, is thorough and the right thing to do.

I’m not seeing a whole lot of seriously important scouting needed for our offense this year. Our starters, outside of QB and RT, are in place. Some could maybe use a bit of an upgrade, but nothing so vital that they need every precious second to find a replacement.

Just relax and be patient. What high quality OC hasn’t we really missed out on any way? Not many I can think of.

by RememberDelaney37 on Jan 29, 2012 2:23 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Unprepared, huh? And who are you afraid we'll miss out on?

….Arians? He’s going back to a former employer with a chance to coach either RG3 or Luck.
….Mike Sherman? I heard reports we went after him, he chose to work with Philbin, who he a) coached in HS and b) hired in the NFL. Plus c), he knows/runs a similar system.

Who else that’s worth a tinker’s damn has been hired? Koetter? Sparano? Shotty? That’s a three-pack of suckage, right there. Maybe Sparano will get out of his own way and get something done, otherwise, the other two are proven mid-pack hires.

It could be because the future OC is getting ready for the Super Bowl but I would not

discount that it could be one or more of the reasons given on the poll. Also, the longer they wait, the fewer options they have but it only takes one “good one.” So, let’s hope.

its simple to me

people are blasting the front office for sitting on their hands….ok….

ill agree if the coach who ends up hired is a guy currently available. ill throw something if its promotion from within, and its looking like even hoffman is keeping his job…which makes me want to weep openly for my mentor who would roll over in his grave watching mccluster/arenas be ineffective in terms of scoring td’s on returns.

its quite possible, back on subjecf, that the coach is actually on a super bowl team….so lets give it time, lets see what they come up with…..

I agree with the post re: coach in super bowl

I would surmise that the Chiefs may look to interview one of more coaches from either the Patriots or Giants. I think it is overreacting to assume NFL administration has such a negative view of the Chiefs they are avoiding employment opportunity.
Let’s let it play out.
However I do believe that Romeo has some pull with other coaches. He has a long history and appears to have the respect of players and administration. The Chiefs may be looking for an ideal coordinator that is young enough to take over whe Romeo retires i.e. Jim Caldwell or George Sieffert.
