2012 NFL Mock Draft

Hey chief fans,

As we get closer and closer to the NFL draft, i thought i would make my mock draft.

Pick 11- Dre Kirkpatrick CB Alabama- IF we fail to sign Brandon Carr, Kirkpatrick would be a great replacement and even if we do sign Brandon Carr, Kirkpatrick could be a nickel Corner instead of Donald Washington. Picture the nickel secondary- Carr, Flowers, Berry, Lewis, Arenas and Kirkpatrick. I think Kirkpatrick Would Be a Great pickup. Also if you train him correctly, he could become a good Saftey and provide depth as well, kind of like Malcolm Jenkisn CB turned into Saftey.

Alternate Pick 11- Mike Adams OT Ohio State- With Kalil, Reiff and Martin off the board, Adams is the next best OT and we could play him instead of Richardson and ameliorate the O-Line.

Pick 44- David Wilson RB Virginia Tech- We simply need depth at RB and David Wilson reminds me of Jamaal Charles, Strong, elusive and fast. He is the 2nd best rb available and would provide depth at RB.

Alternate pick 44- Jayron Hosley CB Virginia tech/ Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama- If we do not select Kirkpatrick in the first round, we would need to pick the next best available here. If Jenkins is available, pick jenkins if not Hosley would be a great pickup.

Pick 75- Kelechi Osemele OG Iowa State- He is a great OG and would help out greatly in the OLine.

Alternate Pick 75- Sean Spence LB Miami- He can play ILB or OLB, although he is quite small his game is huge. He would provide depth and great in the sub formations. Reminds me of Rolando McClain.

Pick 108- DeVier Posey WR Ohio state- We need another good possesion WR like Breaston, Posey is the guy to do that.

Alternate pick 108- Michael Egnew TE Missouri- He is like Moeaki but with better blocking abilities which would improve in the Running Game. He can also catch very well.

Pick 140- Eddie Whitley S Virginia Tech- Providing depth at saftey and a great player.

Alternate Pick 140- George Iloka S Boise State- Similar to Eddie Whitley except a harder hitter.

Pick 172- Nicolas Jean- Baptiste NT Baylor- Great pickup here and could play anywhere on the line in a 3-4 defense.

Alternate pick 172- Jeff Allen OT Illinois- Good feet and strong, would be a good pickup only needs to be improved.

Pick 204- Darius Fleming OLB Notre Dame- good linebacker but can also play as a DE.

Alternate pick 204- Chris Rainey- Electrifying runner kind of like McCluster.

Would switch Egnew as your primary. Ladarius Green is intriguing also. Agree with all others though.

nice work here! I disagree with some of your picks (esp the top 3 or 4) but props for all the work and effort

Show does Spence remind you of McClain?

Why not put this in the draft thread?

just my personal opinion

I dont go to fan posts that have an unreal amount of comments already where you got 400 comments and 3 new comments I dont even bother cause I hate to look for the new comments so this is actually pretty nice when people make some new posts that are smaller and new stuff to read instead of stale week old stuff.

Keep the new coming.

You hate to look for new comments?

Can you not hit ‘z’? Such a challenge I know, its a very underrated letter.

If this was like a whole mock offseason.. yeah I could see it being its own post, however its just a draft which there is a reason there are threads for those. No need for the page to get cluttered with the same few ‘’mock drafts’’.

I think maybe his point is "there isn't really much that's new here"

That and even if it's the case then this should be put in a fan shot.

There’s alot of other quality, new content that gets posted in fan posts that’s getting shuffled down by too many mock drafts and polls which was the whole point of the open draft post in the first place.

Ugh sorry reply fail.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

No offense

But the whole attitude of “I’m going to make a FanShot/FanPost of my mock or FA ideas because if I post them in the other thread they won’t get noticed” is going to get you a very bad reputation around here. There are guidelines in place for FanShots and FanPosts and they often get abused because the mods around here aren’t assholes about it and generally give the benefit of the doubt to new posters.

Almost every excuse for a new thread is “I wanted to get noticed.” I can tell you from experience, the easiest way to “get noticed” if to contribute positively to the content of this site, not with stuff like this. Go participate in other threads, share your opinions, and be prepared to back them up.

Nicknames I have coined:

Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'

Nice draft

But like Bamf said there’s an open draft thread for this kind of thing.

I disagree with most of your picks, but thanks for stopping by!

Quick question, why pick Dre and Mike Adams over an actually elite prospect like David DeCastro?

by NigerianNightmare on Jan 29, 2012 12:13 PM CST reply actions

Agreed

At #11 you go either DeCastro or Hightower.

by DizzyKC on Jan 29, 2012 12:31 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

You had me up until Hightower

Unless you meant #11 in the 2nd or 3rd round.

My problem with the threads

Is if there are 400+ comments it will take at least 4-5 minutes to load or even just crash

by kckrazy25 on Jan 29, 2012 12:42 PM CST via mobile reply actions

No idea how well those threads work on a phone

No issues on comp

Loading time does suck

I propose we go back to biweekly, but will have to take it up with my superiors.

Nicknames I have coined:

Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'

by Nick Britt on Jan 29, 2012 6:28 PM CST up reply actions

My strategy

Get involved early or just wait until the next one.

If it is the end of the week, no need to sift through 700 comments, just wait until the new thread is started by ups or stags and chip away at.

Hit “z” on your keyboard and it jumps to the unread comments.

Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'

I want nothing to do with Posey.

Terrible Senior Day. Never was good in the first place. No thank you.

Not a big fan of this. You're a little off base with your first pick

Donald Washington is a Safety on the team, not a nickel corner. Arenas is the nickel corner. If you had 4CB’s you’d be in a ‘dime’ so to speak. We don’t go into a dime too much, and maybe even less with Berry coming back. We drafted Jalil Brown for a reason, if Carr doesn’t come back I think the kid is going to step in and play well.

The first round pick has to be a difference maker at a weak position, an immediate and marked upgrade. Defensive backfield may be our most talent laden position. We’re not in a position to use a top 15 pick for depth, we have too many areas that can be improved with that pick. It had to be O-Line or ILB, leaning more towards o-line because I think Cory Greenwood is going to step up and compete with Siler and Belcher. Adams isn’t worth that high of a pick so it would be DeCastro, who is maybe the best all around lineman this year.

The second round pick almost has to be TE. We had a rotating door at WR in ’10 and our first round pick in ’11 was a WR along with a big FA signing. We had a rotating door at TE this year and I predict we address that very early in the draft

Just my thoughts on the situation
