yeah

You gotta think if he could play again, the colts wouldn’t release him

by stagdsp on Jan 28, 2012 6:44 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

has nothing to do with that

Its the enormous bonus. They can’t afford to pay him, Luck, and rebuild a team. They can’t trade him either because the league year starts after the bonus is due or something like that, so it’s really the only option

by RamX21 on Jan 28, 2012 7:07 PM CST up reply actions

it's a little of both

If he were healthy, they’d gladly pay him, I think

by stagdsp on Jan 28, 2012 7:55 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I don't think so...

51 million dollars for two quarterbacks is pretty outrageous with all the glaring needs that team has. Possibly losing Wayne, Saturday, and Mathis creates too many holes that need to be addressed. However, I don’t think he is healthy but I wouldn’t see the Colts keeping Manning even if he was with the state of the team.

by jsChiefs23 on Jan 28, 2012 8:43 PM CST up reply actions

Now i know why we haven't hired a coordinator yet.

We’re waiting on manning to be released!

If Peyton Manning does come to Kansas City

It will be fun to watch all of you change your tune about how he will never be the same… blah, blah, blah.

Definitely a treat.

only one thing wrong with that scenario ...

namely, if he isn’t the same … or gets creamed by some wicked DT or LB and never gets back up

That could happen to any player on any down...

not just Manning, if he is medically cleared to play, he is medically cleared to play.

If his nerves regenerate...

then he is cool to play. There are linebackers who have had successful neck fusions and have come back and been productive. If he hurts his neck he will be done for, but the same could be said for anyone. If Orton or Cassel hurt their neck they are done for the season too. Might as well take a chance.

by Crown Chief on Jan 29, 2012 12:35 AM CST up reply actions

he's had surgery that goes beyond "nerve regeneration"

in my mind – and in the minds of others who have had the same surgery – it’s a needless and foolish risk to take

if the Colts cut him I believe he retires, and honestly he probably should anyway … the only thing I can see keeping him on the field is if he’s willing to do a MAJOR restructuring of the contract … barring that it’s outrageously expensive for the Colts to keep him, he’s released and they get Luck anyway

if … huge if … he’s willing to take a hugely reduced salary and is willing to split reps and likely at least some time with Luck, he could stick around

that’s the only way I see him continuing to play, and I doubt he even cares to go elsewhere

I would GLADLY welcome Manning...

Absolutely love the idea, but to think he is going to be the same player he has been seems a little naive. I think our overall team besides the o-line is better than what Manning had with the Colts could help offset is declining health/ability. I could be dead wrong and none of us know in just it’s hard to imagine him being as great as he has been.

by jsChiefs23 on Jan 28, 2012 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

I would just never bet against the guy...

He is an other worldly athlete, not someone’s aunt Myrtle or Uncle Simon with neck pain.

Sure age will catch up with him, that is a given, but even on his downward trend he will be better than 90% of the QB’s in the league.

If you have a chance at Manning you take it every time. I would rather watch him get carted off the field as a Chief then watch him winning Super Bowls for team ________.

That said, I think he will play and be fine.

I don't disagree at all...

I was more or less saying we should be cautiously optimistic. Does it sound like he will be available? Yes. Does that mean we are getting Peyton Manning league MVP? No. I would be beyond excited if we get him just don’t imagine he is going to be 100% his old self. I also agree that his 70% healthy is probably better than a lot of qbs 100%.

Instant championship

Just add manning?

For constantly playing Palko, Haley needs to be fired

by ArrowheadHunter on Jan 28, 2012 7:20 PM CST reply actions

I'd be curious to see how he'd do right away with a new team

New system, new terminology, different players around him. He wouldn’t be able to make checks like he does now.

by RamX21 on Jan 28, 2012 7:52 PM CST reply actions

It's a big risk

But the Chiefs should back up the truck if Manning is a FA. Obviously he needs to be healthy, but if he’s himself and the Chiefs signed him, they’d be the instant favorites to win the SB. Let’s be honest, this team would be a 14-2 type team.

We're the same team as last year, except incredibly better, and with new players.

Does anyone know?

Would he have to go through waivers or is he an immediate free agent?

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting 'Holy ****... What a Ride!'

by tybme on Jan 28, 2012 9:59 PM CST via mobile reply actions

He would be an immediate free agent if he was released.

I believe he would still have to wait to sign somewhere until the new league year starts in Marxh though.

For me, a 40 year old that has never seen a Chiefs Championship

If Manning is medically cleared to play, and the Chiefs DONT DO EVERYTHING in their power to bring him to KC, then I will SERIOUSLY consider backing another team…they need to give US FANS, SOMETHING, for all the years of support and faithfulness…..KC has had the BEST fanbase, the loudest stadiun and the most loyal fans for YEARS AND YEARS…even though, we end each season with disappointment…its been 19 years since we have even won a playoff game, yet here we are, tried and true, year in and year out….I Myself, am not going to settle for mediocrity anymore….Im DEMANDING my team does EVERYTHING it takes to win starting now..

A big reason im saying this is because we have EVERYTHING

needed to win RIGHT NOW…except a quality QB to LEAD the team…there is no LEADER on offense ..Manning makes guys better, helps the line, the run game, the recievers….he also holds guys accountable and will get in someones ass when they dont perform(BOWE)
We have a great running game, a top 10 defense, and better than average WRs….even if we didnt change the roster at anywhere else, Manning would make us SB contenders….Im ready to root for a winner NOW

Completely agree...

Everything just sounds to good to be true if he is available/healthy and willing to come here. It seems like we have bad luck when it comes to taking the next step as a franchise.

he is medically cleared to play….they need to make a SERIOUS push…

kc in az u remember the marv levy days

will the chiefs ever draft a Qb in the first round, not since todd blackledge in 83. and the chiefs could of had marino. OH well atleast 65 toss power trap worked for KC, it should be wide open red. Hank stram still the man.

by niageriannit1 on Jan 28, 2012 11:05 PM CST up reply actions

yeah, but not a whole lot

I was born in 71….Levy was there from like 78-82…so I was only 10 or 11 when he got the well deserved boot…

by KCinAZ on Jan 29, 2012 12:24 AM CST up reply actions

he did NOT deserve "the boot" ... that was an ATROCIOUS roster, top to bottom

god almighty couldn’t have produced a winner with the team he was saddled with … given that you were 11 years old you most likely didn’t realize that … and his record was the least reason of all for his dismissal

Levy is very likely the most intelligent person to ever coach a football team, at any level of the game, and considering he was HC of a Bills team that went to a record four straight Super Bowls I’d say a bit of respect is in order for the man

thats fine...

sorry if i offended you and your Uncle Marv, Ups…lol

but the record over a 4 yr span sucked…..in fact they had a 22 year trend after their Super Bowl that the Chiefs basically sucked every year…then they hired Marty and Carl and got some respectability until they hit the playoffs of course…..now, they are in the midst of another 19+ years of disappointment…
If you go to Wikipedia and read the year by year summary of the Chiefs dating back for the last 40 years….its actually VERY depressing…

the only two teams

That have equal situations to us is san fran and Miami but san fran plays in the NFC making it harder to win the super bowl there and Miami plays in the afc east have not nearly as many weapons as kc and contends with the pats and jets. Manning comes to the soft afc west, and with a boatload of weapons at his side. San fran can’t match that ,nor can Miami and we have more cap room then both and can improve more lol would be stupid for manning to overlook kc because its the easiest path to the sb
