Messing with DeCastro (Hi Ups)

Scott Pioli works some magic come draft weekend. Trading down with our 1st pick to Cincinnati, down again with Baltimore in the 2nd round, and almost completing the AFC North foursome swaps picks with Cleveland in the 3rd. Thanks to www.drafttek.com for modeling the trades and the talent, Scotty cleans up in a number of need positions, while typically ignoring some others.

1 19 Chicago David DeCastro OG Stanford
1 21 Kansas City Mike Adams OT Ohio State
2 43 Kansas City Stephon Gilmore CB/S South Carolina
2 61 Kansas City Kendall Reyes DE34 Connecticut
3 76 Kansas City Orson Charles TE Georgia
4 100 Kansas City Senio Kelemete OG Washington
5 139 Kansas City Derek Wolfe DE34 Cincinnati
5 148 Kansas City Isaiah Pead RBF Cincinnati
5 156 Kansas City Jeff Allen OT Illinois
6 164 Kansas City Dominique Hamilton DE34 Missouri
6 170 Kansas City Tauren Poole RBF Tennessee
7 203 Kansas City Devon Wylie WRS Fresno State
7 223 Kansas City Evan Rodriguez FB Temple

you know last year, I wanted the Chiefs to trade their first for one this year.............

………………..I got pounded. Even Ups was “up” my butt about it. How it was going to be a really weak draft. I’m not smart enough to know the real difference and I don’t think anyone will really know until about five years from now and then you can judge. But I ask you all, how would you like two first round picks this year? The only thing you might be missing because of it , is a Diva WR .

Think of it, two first rounders this year. Now….make a mock with that. Think of the possibilities!!! There would be a huge chance at getting Luck. Even Kalil not to mention a definite, DeCastro/Martin combo at the very least.

if we didnt have that first round pick last year we couldnt trade down and pick up an extra pick that.

we got allan bailey with, just going out on a limb but I think allan bailey will be like having a first round pick in production we get from him so it was kind of like two first round picks last year. toward the start of the 10 year bailey was a top 10 projected player and I wanted him back in september as our first round pick. true story.

Bailey was never a Top 10 guy ... at best he was projected to go very late first round

most had him going at least second and the Chiefs got him in the third with pick #86 overall … that’s a long way from Top 10

maybe he meant Houston. He was considered a 1st rounder and we got him late.

Early on I saw a couple sites that had bailey high 2nd, don’t know if I ever saw him even as a low first. We got some good value last year. I think Houston and Bailey will be good. Baldwin, could be solid, we’ll have to see if he can run routes other than a go or deep anything.

Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.

if we had that many picks it should be something like this:

19 David Decastro Best OG to come out in years. doubt he is even still on the board at 19. If he isnt you take Cordy Glenn

21 Dontari Poe NT prospect who prolly wont make it past the steelers pick.

43 Mike Adams RT starter and could possibly slide to LT if we lose Albert in free agency after his contract is up.

61 Coby Fleener TE in my opinion best te in the draft

76 Chris Polk RB Still has break away speed and not a complete thunder, but a great compliment to Charles. His draft stock is sliding a bit and could possibly be there in the third

100 Brock Osweiler QB another developmental guy with high upside

139 Audie Cole ILB Good solid competition for Belcher

148 Ryan Broyles WR I could see him falling to the 5th after the acl tear and he prolly wont be available til mid season

156 George Iioka S size and speed to match up with the joker TEs. solid depth

164 Ryan Sneed CB adding to the DB depth.

170,203,220 BPA. someone that has fallen etc

QB: Cassel, Stanzi, Osweiler
RB: Charles, Polk McCluster
FB McClain (if resigned)
WR Bowe (Franchised) Baldwin Breaston McCluster Broyles
TE Moeaki Fleener
LT Albert
LG Decastro
C Hudson, Asamoah
RG Asamoah
RT Adams

LDE Jackson Gordon
NT Poe Powe
RDE Dorsey Allen
LOLB Houston Studebaker
LILB Johnson Siler
RILB Belcher Cole
ROLB Hali Sheffield
CB Carr (hopefully) Flowers Arenas Brown Sneed
FS Lewis McGraw
SS Berry Iioka

KC

Will not have the 19th and 21rst picks. I mean I realize NONE of the projections are bound to happen, but in this model the Bears are picking 19th.

Holy crap does anyone else pick in this mock?

Uhhh...I hate looking at the 1983 Draft and seeing 2 HOF'ers picked after our washed up QB pick.

by Ren on Jan 27, 2012 11:15 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Do we really need 3 new DE's?

Why did we trade down with Cinci.. yet get the Bears pick?

Yes I want Hamilton.

Likely several big body DT types we could take down there and groom for NT

Yeah I know

Maybe I should have @’d it so you could tell it was sarcasm, due to all the man love and people already set that we will indeed get him. Thus we would have to have the pick to get him..

The guys you have us taking in later rounds won't fall that far

Hamilton might not make it to the fourth round.

I love drafttek for its simulator and letting you look at all the likely prospects

But they have a lot of guys graded way wrong right now, so the simulator isn’t very accurate. Their positional rankings get a lot better after the combine. Right now they still have guys that magically get moved up or down 300 spots from from where they were a week ago.

In the model

Cincinnati I had move up to take a top CB, they actually took Trent Richardson.
Baltimore moved up to pick from 3 tackles available at pick 53, they took Datko.
I wanted to trade down from 92 to grab either the guard from Midwest State or Kelemete.
The two 5th’s and 6th were just squaring up trade value.

I just missed Fleener at pick 53 and saw a possibility to get Orson Charles later.

I really like the possibilities with Gilmore, lacking in Zone cover but good in man and can play safety too which matching him with our current secondary would then be very deep.
