Hypothetical
The Kansas City Chiefs are due to pay Matt Cassel 7.5 Million in 2013 and 9 Million in 2014. In many posts and comments it seems that 2013 is going to be (in our minds anyway) the year of the QB for Chiefs draft purposes.

The 2013 NFL Draft QB draft class - from Dan Kadar
It was a wise move by Wilson who, while talented, is light on experience and needs refinement in the pocket. If he comes along as expected next season, he should be considered as highly as Southern California's Matt Barkley, another senior returnee. Both are rugged pocket passers with solid arms and plenty of weapons on offense from which to choose. Assuredly, the two will be compared throughout the next college football season.
They'll have plenty of challengers for first-round status next April. Oklahoma's Landry Jones and Florida State's E.J. Manuel each have good size and arms, but have struggled at times when the pocket breaks down. West Virginia's Geno Smith has struggled with bouts of inconsistency, but could grow into a solid quarterback prospect as well.
Then there are the wild card juniors-to-be, headlined by Georgia's cannon-armed Aaron Murray, monstrous Virginia Tech signal caller Logan Thomas and Tennessee's Tyler Bray, who will be returning from injury.

So plenty of possibilities but not the point of the post. Rather, Which NFL team if you could pick up their 2013 1st round pick would put you in the best position to pick the BEST QB of a strong class?
Not a Suck for someone choice but a they suck and we should try to trade for their future pick if we could. Who would you want to trade with and why?
- Indianapolis
- St. Louis
- Carolina
- Tampa Bay
- Cleveland
- Buffalo
- Washington

So possibly trade MORE next year for a lesser Qb prospect?
We are only picking 11/12 this year, could win the West next year putting us at 20 or higher
None of those prospects compare to Luck

over-all...
better qb class next year. Murray may end up better than Luck. I’m sticking with the plan…ok, my plan. Fix o-line now, tag Bowe, trade Bowe for multiple picks for next season, Let Orton, Stanzi have a shot at it, and oh yeah, draft Alshon Geffrey this year, and the qb next year…if we need to.
Lmfao
Murray is no where close to Lucks level as a prospect, ’’Geffery’’ has several question marks about him.. but lets trade a top WR for another rookie

Not exactly
Say we traded with Oakland (hypothtically) or 2nd for their next years 1st. (yes I know they don’t have one) But then we hold their pick in 2013.
Which team is going to be the very worst franchise, due to Coaching, Existing talent, poor QB’s, and or a tough schedule in 2013?
by Steve_Chiefs on Jan 26, 2012 6:00 PM CST up reply actions
or we trade back in this years draft and net a 1st from somebody for next year
I am not talking about losing our 1st for next year, since we will be picking 32nd anyway :)

The odds of trading for a 1st rounder next year, and having it be the top pick.. idk what they are but they have to be crazy
We would be picking likely in the 20s, with again no QB, and out of reach.
Or we could package picks this year, get our QB and roll from there.

Which team?

I'd have probably put Minnesota in Carolina's place
1.) Vikings are junk, like really, really bad, like Andrei Chikatilo bad.
2.) Caaaaaaaaaaam!

agreed, Denver.
the league will have Tebow figurged out by then. Kinda like the wildcat, but figured out faster.

Not based on a ranking, I wouldn't have put Carolina on the list, they should be decent
Vikings? Top three pick next year.

Now that I think about the Changes going on in Indy
I might straight up trade my 2nd for their 1st next year

And if they upgrade that WR corp and RT Gabbert could be serviceable

multiple picks...
is what you want. It gives you more options to trade up. Murray is young yet. See what you think about him after next season. Luck had one of the top lines in front of him, and a solid running game. Muuray did more for his team than Luck. I’d love to have Luck, but in no way would I sell the farm for him. He will be a Colt. I’d give Manning a 1% chance of playing again.
yep
Shotgun approach.
We could also trade a player for a lottery ticket too
If he doesn’t fit the spreadsheet going forward anyways

Murray will not be close to Luck at this point next year
Although if you are looking for a possible big riser out of a QB, look at Bray, if he continues his development.. will be taken very high.

Thing is, Indy isn't going to trade Luck,
and not only will Wash, Mia, or Cle outbid us for StL’s pick and RG3, but Pioli isn’t even going to bid against them for a spread QB anyway…
There will be enough QBs next year that a top 10 pick will get one, and if we trade back this year to get that kind of pick, we can still get BRich’s replacement, which is arguably our biggest need this year other than QB, so that could be a wise play once Luck and Griffin are gone.
sooner or later, God'll cut you down...
Oh really
Pioli isn’t even going to bid against them for a spread QB
Cause he won’t take a safety at #5 overall? Didn’t know you were such good buddies with Pioli to know what he will do

But rg3 was ahead of him on every major mock draft around. Next years qb class will be deeper, but none the caliber of luck & rg3.

I like this line of thinking
This would be a great year to trade down and pick up an extra 1 next year. I voted for Cleveland to pick number one (someone will trade up and take griffin, sticking them with McCoy for another year) but they aren’t going to trade up this year unless it’s to get Griffin. I think Indy, Wash, Arizona, and TB may still pick top ten next year, so they would be my targets. Maybe Indy would take Dorsey for a ’13 first rounder… Otherwise, Pioli needs to trade down to 20 or so, get an extra 2 this year, then trade down to the top of the second with one of these teams to get an extra 1 in ’13. That would give us three 2s this year (with two in the top 12) and two 1s next year (with one in the top 10.) Wash may give up their 2 this year and 1 next to be the team to trade up for RG3, so it may come down to Indy, TB, and Arizona…
sooner or later, God'll cut you down...
That could work
thanks nm

You have to like Indy for worst next year.
With a new coach, new GM, new QB and lots of uncertainly about the effectiveness of the new OC, you have to think they will struggle. However, the safe bet is probably Cleveland, who are perpetually top 5 draft pickers—and not far to trade up from there if we have a good reason to do so.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
cleveland will definitely be a high pick next year
But with them having two 1st this year, the chance of them trading us their first next year is the lowest. I’d bet against cleveland, cincinnati, and new england.

I like this line of thought. Rec
I think I’d go with St. Louis or Indy to get potentially the highest pick because of their upheaval. Indy is probably a safer bet IF Manning leaves. But Manning and St. Louis’ injuries present a high risk of a big turn-around for both those teams next year.
I think Cleveland or Washington might present the highest probability of at least getting into the top ten because of the strength of their divisions.
What are you thinking? Trade our first pick for their 4th or 5th rounder this year plus their 1st next year?
