One NFL Head Coaching Job Remains Open

With the Indianapolis Colts hiring Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano yesterday, there's one remaining coaching position still available. That's the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who, earlier in the week, were nearing a deal with Chip Kelly before the Oregon coach backed out.

So one coaching job left which makes you wonder if it factors into the Chiefs hiring process. Is one of the Chiefs candidates waiting on the Bucs job to be filled? That's a possibility.

Here are all the head coaching jobs that have changed hands this year: Romeo Crennel (Chiefs, via Chiefs), Chuck Pagano (Colts, via Ravens), Dennis Allen (Raiders, via Broncos), Joe Philbin (Dolphins, via Packers), Jeff Fisher (Rams) and Mike Mularkey (Jaguars, via Falcons).

So...does the Bucs coaching search affect KC?

Pagano hiring is strong

Although they’re in for a loooooong defensive overhaul.

It's too bad none of them have really been successful

Marvin Lewis you could make an argument for, but it’s almost the same as being Tom Brady’s OC.

Forgot about Rex Ryan

Jury’s still ultimately out on him, but he has the Jets at least in the conversation every year.

I should also add, none have been successful as head coaches. I know Mike Nolan has been a good DC still after his time in Baltimore.

I think Rex gets fired next year.

Those loud mouth coaches have a short shelf life and it looks like the implosion has already started there. Rex reminds me of Jerry Glanville.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

I tend to agree with you

but in the interest of being objective, I can’t assume it until it happens.

Either way, it doesn’t bode well for ex-Ravens DC’s

It seems like the road to HC is through the Ravens DC

Marvin Lewis/Bengals
Rex Ryan/Jets
Chuck Pagano/Colts

Rex went to 2 AFC Championship games his 1st 2 years

that’s pretty successful

Of course the Tampa Bay job effects the Chiefs...

Every single one of these jobs has impact on the Chiefs coaching search… More names out of the pool and then the race is on to feel spots on the coaching staff.

Are the Chiefs the Tortoise or the hair?

Like the last story hinted at, this could free up somebody the Chiefs are interested in.

TB could have been just blindly holding onto everybody with current contracts until they could get their new HC’s voice on who he wants to keep. Like St. Louis did with McD.

What's with all the DCs getting HC jobs?

With the notable exception of Mike Mularky, all those guys are former DCs. And that leaves Norv as the sole offensive “genius” at the helm in the AFC West.

Just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys.

They say a good defense beats a good offense anyday of the week

and right now this is an offensive league and the only offensive powerhouse to survive the playoffs is the Patriots and the others got knocked out by defensive teams
