Ravens Vs. Patriots Open Thread

The Baltimore Ravens will be visiting Foxboro to play the New England Patriots in the 2012 AFC Championship game at 2:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) today. The Patriots of course are the AFC's No. 1 seed playing the Ravens who is the No. 2 seed. Exactly the way the seeding said it would be.

This is a classic game of a great defense against a great offense. The Ravens and Patriots have both been in this position multiple times in the last decade so I'm really looking forward to this one. I think the Super Bowl winner is going to come from the AFC (and I'm picking the Patriots to win this game so...).

The game is on CBS. Early thoughts?

Ravens need to slap them in the mouf!

It is time to expose the Patriots.

Brian Baldinger actually referred to the Patriots “spread” offense. Criminy, the level of ignorance at the paid “analyst” level on big time TV is amazing. They run a two TE set, fercrissakes. It’s not the friggin’ Thigbone.

Go Ravens!

Defense has been the consistent in post-season history

everyone had SF pegged as going down last week and they managed to overcome the juggernaut that is Drew Brees. In the case of Tom Brady and the Patriots thoiugh, I think the experience gives them the advantage over the Ravens.

Plus I think Ed Reed made a foolish mistake trying to “motivate” his QB through the media this week, so lack of a unified front also gives the Pats the edge here.

Patriots 35 Ravens 17

RG3, its easy as ABC.

- Ray Lewis will pick off Tom Brady
- Ed Reed will force a fumble

- Rob Gronkowski will be the only New England receiver with a TD
- New England running game will almost be a non-factor

by GenericBrand on Jan 22, 2012 2:46 PM CST up reply actions

I'm not a huge fan of the in house promotion options.

I would rather have a new perspective come in.

I can’t get past all the blowouts this season and they definitely need huge changes on offense IMO.

Look at how much time they spent on the field during those blowouts though.

How many three and outs. How many times the offense did nothing. I’m not worried about the blowouts because there was reason for them for the most part. With our DC we’re going to be limited to guys who are willing to run Romeo’s defense so it only makes sense to promote from within and someone who already knows the system. Your new blood can come in the form of another assistant at whatever hole opens up.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 22, 2012 2:53 PM CST up reply actions

I'm all for continuity on defense

but too much can lead to no improvement and in terms of game planning. This defense needs to improve.

Early in the season they were out hustled, and over matched. With the type of offense the Chiefs employ they need a defense that can stay on the field and not give up 30+ points.

Two of those last three games were against the AFC West and I think that can skew our opinions of how good this defense is or can be. The Packers game was an emotional victory and I just don’t want this team going into next year thinking that will be enough to improve, because IMO it simply won’t be enough.

I’m all for Romeo Crennel running this defense, I just want a new coach for him to bounce ideas off of and someone that can sit in the film room and help figure things out before games. They were struggling doing that with Romeo as DC, if he is promoted to HC and everyone moves up a rung, I don’t see how that improves.

Meh...

At the same time... promoting a guy just to promote him

makes no sense.

Your question is why Scott Pioli makes the big bucks and I want them to find a match.

Bill Belichick has had no problem finding defensive puppets. Nor has McCarthy or Payton on offense. It can be done and there are some good names out there.

I’m only saying that I am firmly against status quo for this team. It needs some change.

After four hours of surgery on Tuesday, when surgeons discovered he had injuries to all four ligaments in his left knee as well as nerve damage, the Patriots’ orthopedist, Bertram Zarins, said he was ’’pessimistic’’ that Edwards would play again

Don't you understand?

If a player that the chiefs let go ever has even a modicum of success, that means Pioli is the worst GM on the planet. It’s so obvious, right?

and missing a game-winner is not even close to as bad as the unholiness committed by he who shall not be named.

Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

About the only thing wrong I saw was not bouncing Flacco outside more often.

Wilfork was crushing pocket, but Flacco should’ve bought more time by moving around, especially against the 3-man rush. Looked like a nervous OC was his own worst enemy.

would of ≠ would've
