Rest easy, Joe Pa
I really hope you weren’t directly involved with any of the shenanigans. It’d be a damn shame.
It's no fun if I have to explain it.
A sad day
RIP.
2011 record 10-6. It worked for me last year!
Borrowed this from, Black Shoes Diary, "God gave Joe Pa one last white out"

Your home now
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, may you rest in peace.
Lost his will to live and love of life.
I would bet he would still be alive if he was still coaching. My prayers go out to his family. Rest in peace.
It's events like this
that bring out the true scumbag in people.
RIP JoPa.
Couldn't agree more...
I mean the guy was a great coach and did what any friend would do, not ruin the reputation of the University or make a big scene about his friend, you know, ruin little boy’s life’s, right?. Afterall, HE WAS A GREAT COACH!!! What’s a 2,3, or 10 boy’s mean to someone so great at coaching? He may of been a winner on the field, but he was a loser IN REAL LIFE! I understand God will judge in the end, but I’m not going to wish the best for such a horrible person.
Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness
Maybe you should look up the facts before you start condemning the man, sport. Paterno turned in Sandusky, he was a cooperating witness for the prosecution, he wasn’t accused of any crime and no evidence has arisen to show had anything to do with a coverup or even knew what Sandusky was doing until McQueary told him.
But if falsely accusing an 85 year old man of a crime is your thing, guess that’s between you and God, huh?
Of course Joe Paterno died.
He was ripped away from the thing he loved that kept him going.
It’s crazy that it can work that way with people. Same thing happened with Bear Bryant. He left Alabama and died.
When Joe Pa first got fired a friend and I discussed how this was a death sentence for the man. Hope people think he got punished enough, now. Jesus.

Yep
It’s kind of like a couple being together for 50 years, one dies and the other soon follows them after that….crazy huh?

A long time ago
I once lived is a apt. building with a real nice old lady who had a bunch of cats. she had them for a very long time. She had gotten sick and her family moved her into a nursing home and they had to get rid of all her cats. Well, a month or so later she died, and me and the rest of the tenants in that building believed the reason why she died so quickly( She was a very energetic old lady too). Is that she was seperated from what she she really loved most…..Those cats of hers……..

You Know, I Can't Imagine A Worse Last Ending
Got fired in a horrific scandal committed by some asshole he kicked off his staff and got rid of over a decade ago, gets absolutely crucified by most of the national press, wasn’t able to tell his side of the story until he broke a hip, got lung cancer and died…three unbelievably awful months to cap an almost 50 year career where, by most accounts, he did absolutely everything right. If someone wrote that as a story, people would consider it too far-fetched and contrived to believe.
Joe Posnanski had been in State College writing a book about Paterno when the scandal broke.
I think that’s going to be a great book. And I agree, the crucifixion of Paterno in the media was appalling.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
You Know What Bothers Me Most About It?
Here’s a guy who, by almost all accounts, did everything right…for 50 years. Did his job, did really well at his job, didn’t get in trouble, didn’t cut corners…but when it came to a story that was sensational enough, a story about horrific things done not by him, but by a guy who hadn’t worked for him for a decade, and suddenly people can’t wait to tear him down and assume that the previous half century was some kind of act. Doesn’t matter that he didn’t commit a crime, doesn’t matter that he reported it, suddenly he’s the lightning rod for all the criticism. It’s scary is what that is…it’s a witch hunt in every sense except that they didn’t tie him to a stake and set him on fire. No good can come of witch hunts.
And yes, I fully plan on reading Posnanski’s book…if he writes it. There was some thought that it might be too radioactive a time for the kind of book he planned to write. He said he didn’t even know how he’d approach it now.
i think he'll write it and I think it will be fair.
I used to coach high school sports and I tell people — this is what we’re trained to do. If we get the information Joe got we report it up the chain of command. That’s we’re taught to do. This is lost on people who want to ruin Paterno’s character.
I think we can debate all day that he could have done more, but what should he have done? If I report something to the proper authorities and they don’t act on it am I supposed to take the law into my own hands?
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
I Agree
I was in the military…same thing. When you’re in hierarchical organizations, it’s drilled into you that you work the chain of command. Try to solve the problem starting at the lowest possible level because that usually generates the best outcomes for everyone. And it works, as long as someone in the organization doesn’t decide to lie and cover it up. I think that Gary Schultz, the head of campus police who knew about previous allegations against Sandusky and never filed a report, belongs in jail…based on the evidence. What he did was inexcusable as well as illegal.
As For Posnanski
I agree it will probably be both good and fair. I’m interested to see how he approaches it. He generally goes after more positive stuff…the scandal would seem to have been more in Whitlock’s area.
I think the will to live is a powerful, powerful thing.
An underestimated one, in my opinion.
I watched my dad die slowly of MS, fighting for twenty years. There were a number of times that we thought he was gone, but he just kept pushing. He finally passed about four days after my brother graduated high school. We never thought it was a coincidence.
June and Johnny Cash also come to mind

Rest in peace JoPa
I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

RIP Joe
The football world has lost what I feel was one of the last great legendary coaches in football history. Legendary in the since that every time I saw JoePa coach he remind me of an older time with men like Lombardi or Bear Bryant. JoePa was truly a living legend and he should be remembered as such, not the scandal that occured within his organization.
I wouldn't ever set out to hurt anyone deliberately unless it was, you know, important -like a league game or something. - Dick Butkus
I think Joe-Pa...
Was one of the Greatest college Coaches of all time. It is ashame that his legacy will be always connected to that Perv he gave a job to. The people we bring into our lives do have an affect on how we are judged by others. All I can say is RIP Coach Joe and I for one forgive you for bring to us (Larry Johnson)……….YOU WERE A DAMN GOOD COACH JOE-PA…God bless you familiy too.

But there is a time and a place for those. Today is just not one of them IMO.

RIP JoePa
Oh and don’t feed the idiot trolls who dont know a thing about respect. JoePa was an icon and a legend in my book and millions of others. Let’s remember the man not walk all over his grave by feeding into these media driven puppets! My heart and prayers go out to his family, the lions, and the millions of football fans devastated by the loss.

its unfortunate. at the same time i get it, he had a responsability that now a days is handled a certain way
not shocking to see people expecting him to come forward or at least rid that sandusky guy from the facility for life.
that said, heck of a coaching career, but say he did just not think it was a big deal…..thats a pretty freaking big deal, and a big time hit to his legacy
his legacy is football, but cmon….its tarnished now regardless and part of me thinks thats ok, although it doesnt stop the pain of those kids, or the pain they endured over the last x amount of years

i dont know much about this scandle
So I’m not going to preach like I know. Joe pa was a hell of a coach and did it for a lot of years he has produced good players and some good people threw his program. My opinion on the media is just that they always do this they love to tear people down and build them up all for our entertainment. Now that he’s dead get ready for the media to have a huge joe pa celebration. A life bio by nfl network with former players speaking of great memories and opinions about his life. Its just sad how the media can kill and then try to reserect people when they feel like it. And I’m not trying to defend joe pa who knows what he did or did not know its just sad that it had to come to this.

You Know A Reason I Liked Paterno?
When he was an assistant at Penn State, he turned down Al Davis when Davis offered him the Raiders OC job. Three years later, the Penn State HC job opened up. Paterno knew better than to give into the allure of evil. :)
Wow.
I just hope the same people villifying Joe Pa what he should have done with 3rd party information aren’t the same people calling out the KC media for reporting what they heard about the inner workings in Arrowhead.
I’m not saying what Joe Pa did or didn’t do was right, but no one can know what they would have done unless they were in his shoes. These were pretty big accusations and of course he should have done more and no one knows it more than him, but to me he’s the biggest villan in an awful situation, which is too bad.

imo, great example, well....hard to call this great, but its an example, of what stress can do.
i feel like he would have lived longer without the scandal. sure its possible it had no effect, but i dont believe that for a second.
personally i think hes so old school, so old fashioned, that he had different thoughts in regards to how to handle the situation. not an excuse, but i feel like he wasnt so much burying something under the rug.
rip nonetheless….none of us want to die with that type of media blitz of negativity surrounding us

Fred Phelps and the asshole brigade are going to picket his funeral.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.
Probably
Some of the biggest attention whores on the planet. Since they also picket the funerals of soldiers, I guess that puts Paterno in good company.

He's Not A Christian
He’s just a creepy old asshole who used to be an attorney until he got disbarred for basically stalking a court reporter. Nothing remotely Christian about him.
